Secession!?! Salura Island Threatens to Join Australia

Just watched Metro TV News at 1pm, and lo, an Indonesian island wants to transfer its allegiance from Jakarta to Canberra.

It’s too small to appear on most maps, but here’s NTT Province, and Salura is downwards from Sumba, somewhere!

Citing what they call ‘years of disappointment’ with Indonesian governments, the islanders say there’s neither a school nor a teacher there. A boat trip from the island to anywhere else costs them Rp.250,000. And ‘residents claimed health workers visited only once a month. As a result, many pregnant women ask for help from shamans…’

Well, how about it Aussie? It looks a beautiful little island, though alas, the photo on Metro TV won’t reproduce. You can catch a glimpse on http://www.metrotvnews.com/read/newsvideo/2011/06/12/130005/Warga-Pulau-Salura-Ancam-Bergabung-ke-Australia
