Christmas Coming, Grinches Grizzling – Scott Walker’s the Winner!
Before we properly begin this pre-Yuletide post, a brief burst of self-congratulatory rhetoric. We passed the 90,000 hit target at tea-time. Sincere thanks to my several helpers and to all you readers.
Went down to ACE Hardware in Jakarta’s Blok M the other day, to buy some nails, my DIY wardrobe inevitably gone shaky, and was impressed to see all the Christmas decos already on sale! Unlike some Western lands, this 89% Muslim country has no hang-ups about putting up ‘Merry Christmas’ signs, with lots of pretty shop-girls decked out in Santa hats.

But in America, an overwhelmingly Christian country, the ACLU, aka the League of the Militant Godless, will no doubt be filing suit in court against that great guy, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who has had the confounded temerity to call his State Capitol’s Christmas Tree…A CHRISTMAS TREE!
Apparently the sicko-pinko element prevailed upon a previous governor, 26 years ago, to rename the lovely thing a ‘holiday tree.’ How stupid can you get!
“It’s a Christmas tree. In all honesty, I don’t know what more to say about it,” his spokesman Cullen said.
And sure enough, the sicko-pinko element is back in full cry, waxing indignant at the very thought of anything pertaining to Christmas being given public recognition. Some uptight dame named Annie Laurie Gaylor from something called the Freedom From Religion Foundation went slightly loopy.
“The reason that it was turned into a holiday tree was to avoid this connotation that the governor chooses one religion over another,” Annie Laurie Gaylor, the group’s president, told the Associated Press. “It’s essentially a discourtesy by the governor to announce that. He intends that to be a slight and a snub to non-Christians, otherwise he would not do it.”
I rather suspect that this woman has no inkling that, in the time of America’s Founding Fathers, Congress was already aware that theirs was a Christian country, voting money to help convert Red Indians. Did George Washington have Christmas observance in the White House? Did Abraham Lincoln? How about both the Roosevelts?
I don’t know, but am sure somebody out there can tell us!
Not until that imbecilic Supreme Court judgement perversely interpreted the constitutional ban on any Established Church, Anglican-style, as a wholsale repudiation of the Christianity inherent in the United States’ history, did such hyenas as the ACLU and the ‘Freedom from Religion’ misfits unleash their war on God.
Well, God damn them! And good on Governor Walker!
Most people here, in Indonesia, of all religions, seem to delight in the display of festive cheer, although the bigot element will no doubt start whining soon, as they did a year ago.

Indonesia’s top Islamic body said Thursday that Christmas decorations in malls, amusement centers and public places were “excessive and provocative“ in the Muslim-majority country. Christmas ornamentation had been put up in an “excessive and provocative way,“ said Muhyidin Junaedi, one of the chairmen of the Indonesia Ulema Council, or MUI.
“It should be done in a proportional manner as Muslims are the majority here, otherwise it will hurt their feelings,“ he said.
That’s what really is most tiresome about these primitive sectarian outfits here, the way they think everybody should be dragooned in case something ‘hurts their feelings!’
What infantile creatures they are!
Almost every day somebody somewhere gets their feelings hurt in Indonesia, or worse – one could spotlight the story in the Jakarta Post a week or two back, where a Koran recital teacher aged 72 has been accused of much worse, molestation of little children, and parents are saying the police won’t get into the case because the man is ‘ an influential figure in the neighborhood. “KC is also a religious leader, a former subdistrict head, as well as an adviser for a political party. No one would dare to oppose him,” she said.
Marlina said KC had been detained by the North Jakarta Police last month after a parent filed a complaint alleging that his child had been sexually assaulted by the teacher. However, the police arranged an out-of-court settlement, requiring KC to admit to deviant behavior and requiring him sign an agreement to be released, she said.’
Disgusting, yes?
“The agreement said he was not allowed to lead mass prayers or teach and he had to move away and close the school temporarily. He had to apologize to the parents as well.”
The dirty old pig should be flogged, Aceh-style, but because of his ‘status,’ no way!
Tumbu Saraswati from the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), said that shoddy investigation of sex crimes was a second trauma for victims. “More than 30 victim statements are more than enough evidence. However, the [VER] report is important too.”
So I wonder what Junaedi would have to say about that? But no doubt he is too busy preparing another seasonal rant! Like last year’s!
Junaeid said the MUI issued a recommendation urging mall and recreation center managers to act proportionally in decorating their premises

“We received complaints from a number of malls’ employees who are forced to wear Santa Claus costumes, which are against their faith. Such things should not have happened,“ he said. “We need to restrain Muslims from joining the festivities,“ Junaedi said.
Why? I wish my Muslim colleagues a Happy Idul Fitri, and send a card or two for that. Why can’t Muslims reciprocate?
Of course many do, but even a simple ‘Merry Christmas’ is banned by the benighted fanatics of the MUI!
But no doubt we’ll have another outburst of bitter bigotry from the likes of these self-styled ‘scholars’ soon.
