Canada pushing to have Syria removed from UN human rights committee .

PostMedia News is now reporting that Canada, the U.S., the U.K, Qatar and other countries, have penned a letter to UNESCO’s executive board asking them to reverse their decision. “Syria participates in the examination of cases involving alleged human-rights violations,” the letter notes. “In view of the current situation in Syria, the Executive Board must review the participation of Syria.”
Well, it’s understandable that Canada, and many another observer, might think Syria is hardly qualified to sit on any body purporting to be in favour of human rights.
But we thought we’d check on which other countries are in that position at the UN. Here’s a list of their current champions on the UN Human Rights Council – not UNESCO, but even more relevant to the point Canada’s making..
