And a Dark Age dork named Muhammad Thaib, Regent of North Aceh has  banned all adult women from dancing when welcoming guests in North Aceh, adding that only children should perform the tradition.  “… cultural preservation should not damage Islamic Shariah values, such as dancing performed by adult women.”

• And of course shariah is not sexist, not discriminatory and not unfair to women. Just a reminder!

Needless to say, the fool isn’t talking about the sort of dancers you can see in Jakarta’s Blok M bars most nights of the week – he’d be off to the local quarry to collect stones if he encountered anything as much fun as them.

Mustafa thinks dancing is evil!

The North Aceh Ulema Consultative Assembly (MPU) supported Thaib’s ban, calling the move a positive innovation. Mustafa Ahmad, head of the MPU, said that Aceh’s traditional dances, including the Saman dance, were evil because it involved body movement, as quoted by Atjehlink.com.

Ulema, believe it or not, translates as ‘scholars!’
