Dane-Geld in Jakarta – Kipling Coulda Told 'Em!

According to the Jakarta Globe today, the organisers of Miss World say it’s virtually inpossible to transfer the final stages from Sentul, West Java to Bali (because APEC is holding a big conference there and everything’s booked up)

They also say the Government did not even have the courtesy to tell them of the decision to appease Islamists by cancelling the West Java events before the cancellation was announced.

And the Government is still sticking to its laughable tale that their decision was not due to Islamist pressure, even to the extent of denying that there was such pressure. https://rossrightangle.wordpress.com/2013/09/11/straws-in-the-wind-golkars-sectarian-surrender/

There is no pressure from certain organizations…he said.

And still, yesterday……….

700 members of hardline group Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia protesting outside the West Java governor’s office in Bandung city.

“We don’t want Miss World here in West Java. But moving the contest is not enough — it has no place in Indonesia,” Asep Sudrajat, a Muslim cleric from the group.. .http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/news/miss-world-organizers-say-bali-final-impossible/

Rudyard Kipling

As veteran readers know, Kipling is one of my favourite poets, so here’s what he said about this.

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;

But we’ve proved it again and again,

That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld

You never get rid of the Dane…..

So when you are requested

to pay up or be molested,

You will find it better policy to say: —

“We never pay any-one Dane-geld,

No matter how trifling the cost;

For the end of that game is oppression and shame,

And the nation that pays it is lost!”
