Ignorant ISIS Savages – Mayhem in Mesopotamia!

And so it came to pass…

An employee at Mosul’s Chaldean cathedral said militants had occupied both it and the Syrian Orthodox cathedral in the city after finding them empty. They removed the crosses at the front of the buildings and replaced them with the Islamic State’s black flag, the employee said.  http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/international/jihadists-destroy-mosques-shrines-iraq/

Sacrilegious savages!

The link to the JG story above  appeared yesterday.

But I wrote much of this last week, resigned to the barbarism which seems to be inevitable in certain sorts of Islamist obscurantism.

A Heritage Destroyed by Evil   –  The Buddhas of Bamyan

  • Although the evil Taliban in Afghanistan have taken a nightmare toll in terms of human life, it’s important also not to forget their diabolical destruction of those magnificent statues.

Bearing all that in mind, I am quite horrified to read of what is occurring in Mesopotamia.

I’ve only just posted on those Islamists’ crimes against humanity.

The Land Between the Rivers or the Cradle of Civilisation, call it by whatever name you choose – but in our modern atlases it’s described as

  • Sunni insurgents who took over Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul, and the antiquities-rich Nineveh province that surrounds it have published a decree announcing that they would destroy graves, shrines and other objects that offend their strict interpretation of Islamic law.

Destroy graves? The last resting places of other human beings?

Dirty dogs!

How dare they set their benighted selves up as arbiters of what God Almighty deems to be right and wrong?

The insurgents, from the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, have padlocked the doors of Mosul Museum and announced that they would await a fatwa, or Islamic judicial ruling, on whether to destroy the building’s irreplaceable contents, Iraqi officials said

It’s got SOD ALL to do with fatwas!

My local readers – in Indonesia –may pause to consider what might happen to Borobodur and Prambanan if the freaks got a foot in the door of power here in Indonesia. Acknowledged as vital segments of Indonesia’s cultural heritage, they were erected centuries ago by Buddhists and Hindus.

  • But the relics of the ancient cultures and kingdoms in Iraq are part of our common heritage of civilisation.

The Garden of Eden, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the…

One can hardly place a value on the significance of everything in that combat zone.

Mosul’s Museum may or may not hold keys to the past which, if lost, would be irretrievable.

But it is beyond dispute that it holds valuable antiquities, the desecration of which by bigot brutes would be intolerable…

  • One of my first loves was archaeology, digging on Hadrian’s Wall, and other sites, where I learned much, especially how much I had to learn! And it remains dear to my heart.

The thought of mindless ‘caliphate’ cretins crowing over the destruction of antiquities pains me grievously.

May every ISIS terrorist meet with his nemesis! Which will surely be sent by the God Whom they insult by their crimes against His Creation.
