Ahok and His Enemies – Prabowo’s Jakarta Flunkey Excuses IslamoNazi Rioters

Last week, when the FPI thug gang staged their sectarian protest against Jakarta’s new Governor Ahok, the Jakarta Post noted that City Council Gerindra Party leader, Mohammed Taufik, echoed the louts’ hostility to Ahok.

  •   Taufik – man of distinction?
  • ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

….he criticized what he described as Ahok’s attitude. “He is a city official. He should change his attitude and be careful of what he says. For example, he cannot just scold officers in front of the media. What will people think?” http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014/09/27/city-inaugurates-new-council-head-deputies.html

Such a statement, encapsulating SO much of the arrogance of the political elite’s mentality – imagine, wicked old Ahok, actually saying what he thinks, and  making sure the people get to hear him – struck me as outstandingly bad, so I began to write a post on the Gerindra boss. I got distracted and let it hang there in my pending file – until today.

Readers will remember Taufik as the man who demanded the head of Indonesia’s Election Commission be dragged before a mob for an inquisition –

  • “On Monday, we will besiege him [Husni]. We will deploy masses, even up to tens of thousands of supporters,” Muhammad Taufik, the head of the Jakarta chapter of Prabowo’s Gerindra Party, told Prabowo supporters outside the court.

As the JP further explained, Taufik, though not a notably modest man, has a lot about which he should be modest – he was fired as the Jakarta General Elections Commission chief in 2006 after committing graft while in office.

  • So not someone whose opinions we shoud regard as worthy of serious attention when discussing how politicians ought to behave. Defeated Gerindra Presidential candidate Prabowo might not have lost, had he chosen his supporters more judiciously. or at least told Tantrum Taufik to keep his rabble-rousing trap shut!

Today, however, I rose to meet the day and switched on the laptop to check the aftermath of the rabids’ amok-run yesterday.

  • And sure enough, here’s Taufik again, his gob flapping like a pair of raggedy boxer-shorts on a pauper’s washing-line.

…the Gerindra Party’s Jakarta branch chairman, M Taufik, said that the FPI’s riots were not the hardline group’s responsibility, but Ahok’s for making insensitive remarks toward the people.   http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014/10/03/two-fpi-members-arrested-coordinating-violent-riots-city-hall.html

That’s like saying that robbery of an innocent citizen is not the responsibility of  the muggers who jumped him but of the citizen for going about his lawful business.

It is, after all, the duty of responsible elected leaders to speak up fearlessly on issues of concern, tell it like it is, and alert the people to problems – which is exactly what Ahok does.

I wish more politicians, here and abroad, followed his admirable example!

Hurling rocks and dog-sh#t at cops doing their duty IS the responsibility of the scum who did the hurling. It’s not as if mayhem is not part of their track record.

  • And if it happens again, it should also be seen as the responsibility of loud-mouths in high places who publicly seek to exculpate the scum who engaged in this disgusting mayhem.

PS – The good news about yesterday’s riot is that the cops, unusually, have arrested two IslamoNazi coordinators – let’s hope the courts throw the book at the brutes.
