But in a small English town, you’d think there’d be at least some residual spirit of British fair play than in the mess that London is today? You’d be wrong.
The gesture angered his fellow politicians. Chatham MP Tracey Crouch and Medway Council Labour group leader Vince Maple branded it “distasteful” and “totally inappropriate.”

I’ll bet they had NOWT to say about that!
Maybe the voters of neighbouring Rochester will, however.
The confrontation comes less than a fortnight before the crucial by-election, and the signs are that the campaign could turn ugly.
Looks like it already has!

All very odd. Here in Redhill, UKIP has laid a wreath for longer than I can remember. The Greens, Conservatives and Lib Dems also lay wreaths but not, please note, the Labour Party. Ukip favours an un-ostentatious style: the wreath itself is covered in poppies, while the attached message reads “Let not their sacrifice have been in vain”, together with the party’s name and branch and the party logo.
We have always had full co-operation from the local council which organises the affair, and other parties are generally courteous in the dealings with us on this solemn occasion.
