B-gger Bogor! Try Another Kebon Raya – In Bali!

Bogor, in West Java, is not my fave place  these days, the callous sectarian persecution of those GKI Christians a big turn-off.

Nevertheless, it has famous botanical gardens, dating from Raffles’ time, so lots of people go there. Unfortunately, lots of pains-in-the-neck go there too, to loiter and annoy visitors, selling cr@p stuff mostly.

Maybe it’s changed since my last visit four or five years ago, but I doubt it. A pity, for that kind of arboreal oasis is a delight for city-dwellers in need of a break from Jakarta’s urban problems.

So Bedugul Botanical Garden, also known as Kebun Raya Eka Karya, came as a most pleasant surprise during my recent Bali trip.

It’s an hour or two’s drive,  quite a distance from Legian/Kuta, depending on traffic.

The day we chose transpired to be a Hindu holiday, so one might have expected it to be crowded, its mild temperature a magnet for both locals and foreigners. But although there were plenty of people, it didn’t seem congested the way Bogor’s Kebon Raya can be.

There are also additional attractions at Bedugul, like Lake Beratan Lake where you can see the Ulun Danu Temple.

Just letting you know!
