RCMP’s Delphic Definition Of Non-Terrorism!

Is ANYONE else bemused by this Mountie’s meandering?

BRENNAN: I wouldn’t characterize it as a terrorist event. I would classify it as a group of individuals that had some beliefs and were willing to carry out violent acts against citizens but there’s nothing in the investigation to classify it as a terrorist attack or terrorist incident.

QUESTION: What do you mean by “some beliefs”?

BRENNAN: Again, that is part of the investigation and we’re not in a position right now to discuss that.

Nova Scotia RCMP Commanding Officer Brian Brennan said a man and woman planned to go to a public venue in the Halifax region on Feb. 14 "with a goal of opening fire to kill citizens, and then themselves."

QUESTION: Can you say if they were of a jihadist nature? Evangelical, right-winged nature?

BRENNAN: I can tell you that it’s not culturally based.

============

I have read the whole transcript on the CBC website, and while we all understand that police have to be careful what they say, it certainly provides more questions than answers.

So a few questions.

Not, I hope, inane questions, such as that insidiously inserted by the journo jerk, as if ‘evangelical’ or ‘rightwing’ motives were remotely as likely a source of terrorism as jihadism.

What the heck is his use of ‘cultural’ all about? Is it anything to do with ‘religious,’ which, aka jihadist, is the main motivation of terrorism this year and last year, and for quite a few years? Does he think that by excluding ‘cultural’ motives, he will divert us from concluding that ‘religious’ motives are involved?

And do the words a group of individuals that had some beliefs and were willing to carry out violent acts against citizens not rather neatly define what precisely constitutes terrorists?
