West Java Wowsers! ‘Dimly-Lit Stalls’ AND Cafes Face Kill-joy Closure

• VIVA.co.id reports that the Depok City Government confirmed it will close cafes and nightclubs during the holy month of Ramadan. This closure will apply from three days before the start till and three days after Idul Fitri.

  Well, hell, thanks be I don’t live in Depok, but that is hardly a novel feeling- almost every time we hear news from there, residence within its city limits becomes an ever more abhorrent prospect.

  “During the month of fasting, cafes should be closed,” said Deputy Mayor of Depok, Idris Abdul Somad, Saturday, June 13, 2015… In addition to cafes, dimly-lit stalls are also not to be spared as targets for officers.

  Depok appears to have some a kind of cornucopiac supply – how many times have IslamoNazi thugs and/or SatPol PP (civic militia) popped up on our pages, determined to extirpate these harmless little shacks, where un-moneyed guys can enjoy a relaxing beer and fragrant company.

  Yet they are still out there, as irrepressible as those skeletons in ‘Clash of the Titans!

  It’s going to be a real tough crack-down on fun, surely a sign that these kill-joys don’t trust ordinary Muslims to simply walk past night-spots and proceed to their prayers, at home or in their local mosque.

  This official mentality is SO demeaning to pious citizens, the blatant implication that they’ll chuck their fasting and rush to ‘sin’ if they hear so much as a note of karaoke music in the night air.

  The local top cop sounds particularly fanatical.

  “If you find there are those who sell alcohol, immediately report it to the nearest police station. If the local police do not want to respond, report to me – it means the local cops are tired of being cops.”

  That’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Depok Dwiyono. Charming fellow – ready to come down hard on slackers as well as people who only wish to enjoy a night out.

  Meanwhile, Depok FPI Chairman Habib K. Al Gadri confirmed they still would oversee the number of cafes and nightclubs in this city.
