UK Referendum – LibDem Discrimination Bid Thwarted

Just got sent this by a Brit patriot, so it’s slightly old news, but nonetheless welcome, as it illustrates the shameless discriminatory mind-set among UK pinkos!

…the amendment moved by Baroness Miller (LD) to include in the franchise for the EU Referendum Bill all EU-resident British expatriates, was defeated at the Report Stage debate in the House of Lords on the 18th November, Peers voting 214 – 116 against...
Of course it’s a scandal that British people abroad are denied a vote on an issue that affects the very essence of their homeland, if they happen to have worked or retired beneath palm or pine beyond the seas for more than fifteen years.

All the more so when citizens of India or Uganda dwelling in The Old Country will get to vote in Cameron’s referendum.
EVEN more so when similarly domiciled citizens of Eire, not even in the Commonwealth but in the EUSSR, will also be able to participate.
But the plainly self-serving amendment quoted above is the most iniquitous approach to the grievance.

There are thousands of Brit retirees and expat workers here in Indonesia alone. More in Australia and NZ and Canada. A huge proportion of these will not have voting rights…

…and that Europhiliac LibDem move would leave them disenfranchised, while granting voting rights to those drawing pay-checks in the Brussels Empire, thus predisposed to favour that supranational edifice.

I note the blog that published the quoted report comments further –
the government did not risk supporting this Liberal Democrat (LD) moved amendment to allow all EU-resident British expats to vote in the EU Referendum, in advance of the Commons’ debates on the Votes for Life Bill, given the strong Labour party opposition to removing the 15-year-limit.

Yes, Cameron is moving to restore voting rights to all overseas Brits – but NOT in time for the referendum.
I wonder why?
And once the vote IS restored, one hopes people who benefit will not forget Cameron’s sly manoeuvring and Labour’s overt contempt for their years of overseas endeavour.
