That’s the headline, and we zoom down the JP page to see exactly what he’s expert on!

• So we’re told by Dave Lumenta, an anthropologist at the University of Indonesia ( UI )
• So he ‘understands’ communism? He’s got an honours degree in politics or modern history, including comparative study of communist states, or a post-grad qualification in Soviet Studies? 
• Hell, I have all those things but the JP report doesn’t feature counter-comment in those relevant disciplines. There must be tons of anti-communist Indonesian academics who actually understand communism better than the JP’s ‘expert,’ but not in this report!

• Instead, ‘Dave,’ as the JP calls him, in comradely fashion, whinges that the single narrative of the 1965 mass killings provided by the government had formed collective memories among people in which communists were regarded only as unconscionable atheists.

• Smart people!
• But Communists of course are much more than that.
• They are totalitarian hypocrites, whose ideology is drenched in innocent blood.
• They prattle about workers’ rights, but ban free trades unions.
• They witter about democracy but deny their subject peoples free elections.

• Concentration camps pock-marked the face of the USSR, the loathesome Gulag Archipelago.
• And Red China still employs slave labour to maintain its economic empowerment.  
• In the sad satellites of East/Central Europe, similarly brutal camps were used against citizens whose only crimes were patriotism and a taste for liberty.

• There was the infamous Belene in Bulgaria, and never forget Sachsenhausen, where the Reds took over a Nazi camp and continued its satanic operations after WW2 ended in 1945.

• Surely not? The Catholic Mindszenty in Hungary, the Protestant Richard Wurmbrand in Romania? Tortured, imprisoned, like many thousands of less famous Christians tormented for their faith?
• Who did that, if not unconscionable atheists.

• Here in Jakarta, Catholics, Protestants, Muslims and people who simply believed in preserving the right to worship according to their conscience, united to oppose the marxist menace.

• But sadly those PKI traitors gulled hundreds of thousands of simple folk into their front organisations and thereby got them slaughtered too, when the fight-back turned bloody.
• Some senior PKI did die, but plenty scuttled off to red despotisms overseas.

• Now they’re back and whining volubly, along with the Jakarta Post, which as ever fails to make any distinction between people persecuted unfairly, like innocent kin of communists, or people wrongly accused of communism, on the one hand…
