But if a ‘civilian militia,’ as the Guardian describes the French folk said to be engaged in a fightback against the menace, is indeed active, that might well reduce the level of wanton terror inflicted on both police and civilians.

The rabble do not arrive in Calais harbour by boat then stroll along to the shanty town.
They came via various other countries, at least some of which they had to pass through were perfectly safe.
If they were in ANY sense ‘refugees’ rather than wannabe welfare bludgers eager to dip their snouts into the UK welfare trough, then they’d have stopped in Italy, or Spain, or even in the first town or city where they crossed the French frontier, way down south or on the Rhine or the Pyrenees. They’d have applied for ‘asylum’ – but they didn’t.
They don’t want ‘asylum.’ They don’t apply for it in Calais, partly, of course, because they would be interviewed, investigated and found to have no claim to ‘refugee’ status.
- But mostly because they are simply greedy country-shoppers, who arrogantly assume they can pick and choose on which honest nation they can batten.
