It’s May Day – Don’t Let Reds Hijack It – Vive Marine!

Here we are, May Day in Jakarta!

Thousands of Indonesian workers will be out marching and hollering downtown, causing traffic nightmares, so best stay home and continue with my paper-back out front, if the sun shines as brightly as it has over the weekend.

May Day, Jakarta, four years ago


…let’s not forget that this holiday predates revolutionary socialism by at least two thousand years, its origins in Ancient Rome.

It was long celebrated in Merry England by the common folk, with no hint of fatuous class war ideology.

In France, I have newly learned, May 1st, since 1561, is marked by gifts of ‘a sweet smelling flower called the spring of lily of the valley.’
