‘World Press Freedom Day’ In Jakarta – A Jolly Journo Junket?
“A free and democratic press should be accompanied by responsibility,” says Minister of Communications Rudiantara.

Fair comment, Pak!
Meanwhile, we read the press release, which carries an explanatory note to let us know that WPFD is an annual event initiated by UNESCO.
Not very reassuring, that.
We know that UNESCO is not a respectable organisation.

But never mind.
There’s more!
WPFD 2017 focuses on strengthening the freedom and quality of journalism, to make the media more effective in contributing positively to all areas. Especially on the relationship between freedom of expression, justice for all, peace, and inclusiveness.

Freedom , justice and peace, very nice too, but ‘inclusiveness?’
What the heck does that mean?
—-
So at whom should we look this special day, when it seems some 500 foreign journos are in town, a jolly shindig till Thursday, most of them presumably booked into fancy hotels, which all have bars, ideal places for research and networking, of course.

=
It is tempting to have another go at the rancid bias of the Western media, CNN, BBC, France24, ABC, etc.
=
=
But we here in Jakarta don’t need to look that far to see how shackled some parts of the media can be.
We expect nothing more than what we get in terms of bias from media like TVOne, where the journalists purported to give objective news on the Middle East…

.. …while we were subjected to the miserable droning of that pro-Palestinian dirge and the ridiculous pictorial prejudice, that damned flag, with which they graced our screens.
But at least that wasn’t as bad as the Jakarta Post’s craven editorial silence on book-burning, simply because the JP is owned by Gramedia.

How free were, are, the JP’s editors to condemn such Nazi-style antics, when their big bosses were the unrepentant culprits?
-
And speaking of repentance, who forces TV staff to feed sectarian hogwash into their news-scripts, using the word for ‘repentance’ instead of ‘conversion,’ when talking about dissenters bullied into accepting other people’s dogmas?

Or is it still the case that a large percentage of local journos are Islamist bigots?

Very ‘inclusive!’

But those are privately owned media, doing what their pay-masters demand. We know that and just have to laugh at their pretensions. The state broadcaster, TVRI, is not something I watch at all, not for years.
-
The threat to freedom of expression here is thus quite different from that back West, where it’s largely from the cultural marxist in-crowd who have infiltrated and now largely control state media in many countries, notably Britain, Germany, Canada and Australia.
-
Just insert BBC, DW, ZDF, France24, CBC, ABC into that little search box over to the LEFT -which is where they all belong!

ZDF unfamiliar?

Shouldn’t be…

…and you can remind yourselves of the way freedom of expression is perhaps not always formally outlawed…
- ======

….but certainly restricted in the publicly financed media, so that one side’s prejudices are reflected to the other side’s detriment. One very simple example is how those guilty of arrogant contempt for civilised countries’ sovereign borders, illegals…

-
…have been deliberately misrepresented in one news report after another, as ‘undocumented migrants’ or some similar contrived euphemism, conjured up by fake-news specialists to play down their lawless arrogance.
-
That’s NOT press freedom.
-
That’s subversive propaganda, and its purveyors’ near monopoly of state media must be broken before those media can seriously be counted as free.
-
If the people pay the piper, it’s the people, not self-regarding elitists, who should call the tune.
-
Only Poland has actively moved to redress the balance….
- ======

…
-
…with the left-wing clique’s wings clipped by a patriotic government…
- …the changes in the legislation were necessary, because for eight years under the previous pro-EU government, state broadcasters were “deeply one-party media” with “not a penny’s worth of pluralism,” but “not a single EU commissioner or EU lawmaker expressed any concern over the fact.”
-
–Poland defends its new media law as fair amid EU concerns –

…to the chagrin of the Euro-Commissars in Brussels.

So Poland took a step towards true press freedom.

Today, we should hope that British, French and German patriots, as well as those further away in Canada, the USA and Australia, will step up their efforts to clear out the rats’ nests in their countries.

You cover a lot of ground in this Ross and I won’t even try to comment on all of it, but I just watched the news on Metro .
You maybe did too, all the ‘press freedom delegates at a fancy ‘gala dinner’ on one of our five-star Jakarta hotels.
Then they’ll head home tomorrow, hung over and a few kilos heavier, to write even more about the plight of the world’s underprivileged.
I know you dont like lawyers, but in my book, journalists are as bad as lawyers any day of the week.

Of our two enemies, I almost prefer the Islamists, because they (except for apostates in our countries) are not part of us and therefore not traitors.
The liberal media and politicians in our countries who work to undermine our defenses are the ones I would like to see pay for their treachery.

To tell readers that ‘conversion’ is ‘repentance’ is fake news. Very unpleasant faking too, to make innocents seem guilty, because repentance means giving up evil and they did no evil. It is no crime or sin not to be Muslim.
The Indonesian media you let us know about are purveyors of fake news and the journalists in Jakarta for this World Press Freedom ‘junket’ should be exposing them.
