Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri 2017 !
In an almost empty Jakarta, many, if not most, of its millions of people heading to home-towns to be with their families for the holiday, I send season’s greetings to all my Muslim readers.

Have a great holiday.

I don’t get it. I don’t get you.
Much of the time you sound like you understand the situation we face with the Muslims but then you send out this?
You support Donald Trump and Marine Le Pen but then you get talking about your social life and how much of it you spend with Muslims.
It’s hard to work out whose side your on.
As our Pauline says – please explain!

Good day, Lionheart.
My apologies for this belated reply but it has been a magnificently hot day here and I decided to bake happily while collecting my thoughts on what to say to your criticism, which is similar to others I have had, both online and face to face.
I assume you, just like me, are looking forward to the defeat of ISIS in Mosul, and everywhere.
I mention that because it’s important to note that the besieging forces are largely – yes, Muslims, as have been many of the victims.
And while we’re talking about the coalition in Iraq, I recall reading a story, anecdotal, but with the ring of truth, about American officers who declined the offer of strong drink from their Iraqi allies, because they had been ordered not to touch alcohol in case it ‘offended Muslims!.’
The Iraqi Muslims found this amusing, and acceptable, because there was more Scotch for them!
Here in Indonesia, there were many Muslims very disappointed in Ahok’s defeat and very outraged by his imprisonment, because they are decent people who believe in their country’s democratic traditions of religious pluralism.
To insult them because they are Muslim is not only rude and irrational but also almost as counter-productive as the behaviour of louts who harass girls in headscarves.
Many of those girls are not happy about being scarfed but if they are then abused by bigots, they will be even less happy and react accordingly, against those who pick on them.
As for Donald Trump, whom you view as a fine chap, as indeed he generally is, did you see that he sent Idul Fitri greetings from the White House?.
I greet everyone civilly, on holidays and other days.
And I send Eid text greetings to the numerous Muslims I like and respect. As they do to me, at Christmas.
Think about it. Am I making sense?
