• E.E. admits that eight million keen viewers is an ‘astounding’ number, but she reckons her narrow-minded outlook trumps their enthusiasm for beauty. How dare they appreciate beauty – the contest millions of French people enjoy must be…

• -But her hysterical animosity towards the pageant, (which is apparently now a real French tradition, in its 88th edition ) actually reveals something deeper, and deeply disturbing –  her concept of what the media should be.

• One of the most bizarre aspects of the Miss France phenomenon is how much coverage it gets in the mainstream press. 

  This is the point you start to wonder – is she nuts?

• An immensely popular pageant, watched with delight by 8,000,000 nice normal French folk…

• …yet Eccentric Evie is taken aback by the fact it gets a lot of media coverage?

• ‘Twould be damned weird if it didn’t!

  Some of France’s most respected publications and news sites…dedicate article after article to the contest.

• All this coverage, only to be expected unless these media were totally out of touch with the public, has a dreadful effect on E.E.- you feel like you have travelled back to the 1950s!

• If only one could!

• Back to a France inhabited by French people with shared values, no banlieue alien colonies where decent people – and police officers! – fear to tread alone…

• …a France where men married women and not each other, a France where foreign courts could not arrogantly forbid the deportation of illegal immigrants…

• Poor Little Evie. God forbid La Belle France might return to civilised values.

• But it’s not just the old France that E.E. finds abhorrent.

• …it isn’t just the competition that’s the problem, after all the people behind it aren’t forcing millions of people to tune in…

• Sorry, that is being facetious about a serious subject – the risks women and girls face on the streets of Europe.
