Today in 1649 King Charles I was put to death.

A man of saintly character, he was denied even a chance to say a few last words to his people.
His murderers were presumably afraid the crowd who stood in silence under an unnaturally dark sky in London might be inspired to rescue their monarch from his cruel fate.
He deserves to be remembered.
