Help Us Liberate Gao Zhisheng from Prison
for a Crime He Did Not Commit Gao Zhisheng was formally arrested in 2006 after being placed under heavy surveillance for providing legal assistance to religious minority groups and underprivileged individuals in China. Prior to his arrest, Gao was hailed as one of the top 10 lawyers by China’s Ministry of Justice and was nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize. Tortured for Christ
Gao spent the next eight years in and out of prison. He was tortured by way of sleep deprivation, brutal beatings, and electric shocks. He was released from prison in 2014 and has since been under house arrest in the Shaanxi Province with limited access to medical care and the outside world. He disappeared in August 2017 and his current whereabouts are unknown, but it is believed that he has been put in custody again by the Chinese government.
Holding China Accountable
The sentence and treatment of Gao is an absolute violation of his human rights that the Chinese government publicly claims to uphold in its constitution. Gao’s story is one of many in China as the government continues to violate the sacred rights of its people. It is time to hold the Chinese government accountable!
