Austria’s Reds And Greens – Russophobic AND Rude!

Some readers may remember various stresses and strains involved in drawing up a list of guests to be invited to a wedding.

It’s not usually the happy couple who create strife in these matters but rather sticky-beak in-laws-to-be, or other tiresome rels, getting some practice in for after the nuptials.

More trouble is caused in marriages by interfering outsiders than any disagreement between man and wife, as a rule.

Hence my interest in the report from Austria, where Karin Kneissl, the country’s Foreign Minister, was married last Saturday and had invited a foreign head of state to the big day.

Why not?

The visitor was in the vicinity and the invitation could only be good for inter-governmental relations.

It’ll mean some nice pix for the wedding album too!

 BUT…the guest is Vladimir Putin.

When Prince Harry married his beloved, there was talk of inviting Obummer, but I expressed no view on the prospect of having a racist rat at the wedding, because I believed that it was HRH and Meghan’s business, not mine or anyone else’s.

Alas, at least one Austrian Socialist shrew has no such respect for the wishes of a bride and groom.

The far-left rabid Russophobes shrilled balefully that “Vladimir Putin is the EU’s most aggressive enemy in matters of foreign policy”.

They need to check their song-sheets -usually Greens say THAT about Donald Trump!

If Chancellor Kurz had invited the Russian leader for a state visit, any politician of any party would be entitled to express views for or against the plan.

But somebody’s wedding?

No way.

Seems to me the Left were just being spiteful because Karin’s from the FPO patriot party.

Kneissl, 53, who was nominated for the post by the far-right Freedom Party (FPOe), will marry businessman Wolfgang Meilinger in a ceremony in a wine-growing village near the southeastern city of Graz.
Putin confirmed he would be attending the wedding before heading to talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel near Berlin on Saturday evening.  Putin’s attendance was originally described as a “private event” by Kneissl’s office but has since been upgraded to a “workmy iPad
