Emasculating Christmas Carols – Fight Back!
The popular Christmas carol ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ has been updated to remove a reference to Jesus’ mother’s virginity, and clergymen are warning parishioners not to be “squeamish” about Mary’s womb.

The line “offspring of a virgin’s womb” has now been replaced with “offspring of the favored one” in the carol that will be sung in churches all across the UK over the Christmas period. https://www.rt.com/uk/447246-christmas-carol-virgin-mary/
So who authorised this idiotic suppression of a key tenet of Christianity?
If even the sappy bishops are upset, why hasn’t the offensively changed version been pulped and the proper words put back?
I might add that when I went off to sing carols at a midnight service on Christmas Eve, Hark The Herald Angels had the original ‘womb’ words – but it had, alas, been emasculated by some ‘Me Too’ moron.
Christ, by highest heav’n adored,
Christ, the everlasting Lord:
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of a virgin’s womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail th’ incarnate Deity!
Pleased as man with man to dwell,
Jesus our Immanuel.
The line about Jesus being ’pleased as man with men to dwell,’ were erased, with some dumbo replacement words inserted – ‘pleased with us in flesh to dwell..’

I of course sang the right words, but since I had little to do on Boxing Day, I investigated, and learned that the Methodists were to blame.
It was their 1984 General Conference that started all the gunk, the consequence being an instruction to the Hymnal Revision Committee to “be sensitive to inclusive language, but respect the language of traditional hymns...
…language that is discriminatory or not otherwise in accord with the Social Principles of The Book of Discipline should be altered or deleted.”
But regardless of that pledge to respect the language of traditional hymns, the nitwits went after Hark The Herald Angels, and also decided to vandalise another old favourite.
“Good Christian Men, Rejoice” became “Good Christian Friends, Rejoice” (no. 224).

Pathetic.
Only brain-dead women, or ‘celebrities’ (basically the same thing) would conclude from either carol’s traditional words that Jesus dwelt only with men when he was living in the Holy Land, or that anyone would deny women the right to rejoice.
Normal women, pre-lib ladies, never got uptight about such trivia – they were too busy doing honest work, cooking good meals for their families, raising children, etc.

A bit odd as the original words were written by Charles Wesley, brother of John ,founder of Methodism

They did the same thing to ‘God rest ye merry gentlemen’ and there was that crazy bishopess, in Sweden I think, talking about ‘God the Mother’ too.
Then they wonder why people do not attend church as much!
You are right about those denominations not being worth the effort.
In Brazil and a lot of other Latin American countries, Francis’s Catholic Church has lost millions of people to independent Protestant evangelicals who stick up for authentic Christian beliefs.
The evangelicals were a big source of support for Bolsonaro.

Bud, you are on the right track, but there’s even more on that carolI
‘…the comma is placed after the “merry” in the first line because the song is enjoining the gentlemen (possibly meaning the shepherds abiding in the fields) to be merry because of Christ’s birthday. It’s not telling “merry gentlemen” to rest’ (December 2007 issue of BBC History Magazine )
So the revisionists are out of line, unless the shepherds were keeping themselves warm with some nice little shepherdesses!
