In Indonesia, Only Some Polygamists Punished…And In UK?

    An interesting report in Kompas…

    https://money.kompas.com/read/2020/01/08/122427626/puluhan-pns-dipecat-karena-narkoba-dan-poligami-tanpa-izin.

….tells us that a number of Indonesia’s civil servants have been dismissed, some for disgusting levels of sloth (as many as 46 days non-appearance at work) and some for using narcotics.

But the offence that caught my eye was ‘having more than one wife without obtaining permission from those in charge.’

Last year some ignoramus on one of the expat sites claimed that polygamy was not allowed in Indonesia.

I never waste my time on such people…

    .

    .

…they can live here for years and still haven’t a clue – but I made a mental note to address the issue again, having previously posted news and views on the subject more than once…

    So here it is.

Or at least removing the grossly sexist ban on polyandry.

If a man can have more than one wife, surely a woman should be equally entitled…

Jakarta Sexists – “We Have Rights!” – To Multiple Spouses For Men Only!

…to enjoy the attentions and support of more than one husband?

Here’s the problem with current legislation, which I have culled from those previous posts – .

The Marriage Law upholds the principle of monogamy, but allows husbands to have multiple wives under certain conditions, including that of being married to a woman who is suffering from a serious illness and unable to bear a child.

    Aha!

    • sexism
    • Blatant discrimination enshrined in national legislation?

What about a woman married to a man with a serious illness? Or to a man who’s sterile and unable to give her a child?

We also reported on a bizarre sexist circular from the Defense Ministry…

All those links above should fill you in on the background, but as to the future?

Although I’m writing today about Indonesia, it’s only fair to say there are backward people in Western countries too, notably in the UK, which we wrote about…

    ..

May Extols ‘Gay’ Agenda – Now Her Fans Back Polygamy

…when the Wycombe Conservative Association was exposed –  using its official Twitter account…

….the Association went on to say that in respect of polygamy it had, “no objection at all.” If that’s how people want to live their lives… who am I or who is anyone to judge?”

    Wycombe Tories

One assumes that the Wycombe Tory clique drew encouragement from May’s enthusiasm for sharia law.

But let’s stick to Indonesia for now.

When President Jokowi was elected, he campaigned on a Mind-Set Revolution’ platform.

Can we hope he’ll seek actively to bring that aspect of the marriage law out of the Dark Ages?

And will proponents of primitive polygamy seek to bolster their sexist case by invoking how Western appeasement regimes suffer the practice to continue?

    ….

British women are increasingly being pressured into polygamous relationships or left without child support when relationships break up because UK law does not offer adequate protection to spouses in religious marriages, campaigners have warned.

Only a crazy woman will want four husband but if a man can have four wife, the law must be fair.
Truly poligami is for Stone Age people. Ban it. Indonesia is not Arab Saudi

We in Indonesia should have banned polygamy in 1945 when we declared independence.
