Today in Greece, where most people are just waking up, is everybody’s Big Day!

Bishop Germanos of Patras in 1821 raised their national flag at the monastery of Agia Lavra, and international recognition came nine years later.

For centuries Greece had been ruled – misruled – by the savage Ottoman Turks, the Caliphate which had its capital in Constantinople…

…and nobody in that small country has ever forgotten that evil era.

No way anyone there today will forget, after the Islamist Erdogan launched a new war…

So this morning, I salute Greece…

…which I visited more than once in my younger gallivanting days, and hope all freedom-lovers in every land will raise a glass of ouzo or retsina or whatever’s handy.
