Applications for 127 cities and projects — eight Polish beneficiaries — were selected by the EU for a total grant value of more than €2.3 million.

Poland’s Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro, has condemned the EU’s decision, saying his country will defend the rule of law.

“We will not allow discrimination of Polish citizens and local governments by the European Union,” Ziobro said..

But again, as I have more than once, may I urge citizens of every land to scrap this twinning racket!

No doubt there are a few town and city councillors who vote for twinning with every intention of paying for the lovely dinners and flights to faraway places out of their own pockets.

No doubt some of them subsequently resist the opportunities for such freebies once the process was begun.

But it IS a racket.

I know. I fought it where I lived and lost the battle, but I alerted a lot of people to the sly and sleazy way it often works.
