Sexy Or Sectarian? Which Would Jakarta Commuters Prefer?

In Jakarta, these recent weeks, those of us, and there are many, who use public transport…

C’mon, use the buses, avoid traffic jams!’

…have had to pass along streets on which altogether too many large posters are hung, featuring the easily recognisable face of Indonesia’s most notorious fanatic….

The Fanatic Returns! Indonesian “Scholar” Offers Warm Welcome!

…the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front, the FPI, Rizieq Syihab.

I’ve never seen anyone actually putting them up, so it must have been a furtive operation, at dead of night.

There are rules about posters.

After elections here in Indonesia, posters must be taken down by those who put them up.

Yet nobody has been taking the fanatic stuff down.

This may be due to the FPI’s reputation for vicious violence against people who incur their displeasure….

….so it was pleasing to hear that some of the capital’s highways have finally been made presentable again, and there’s even a viral video showing the clean-up.

But why is it viral?

Thanks to this link from…

….we learn that 5 people were seen doing their civic duty.

These billboards were lowered by people in striped uniforms. The TNI said it was a joint operation with the police and Satpol PP: TNI was only helping.

The head of the TNI Information Center (Kapuspen), Maj. Gen. Achmad Riad spoke up about the viral video .

In the picture there is one whose clothes are not TNI,” said Achmad Riad at the Headquarters of Wing I Paskhas, Halim, East Jakarta.

Achmad Riad also explained that it was not only the TNI…  Police and Satpol PP, he continued, also participated in this activity. “What is clear is that it is carried out jointly. There is a Satpol PP, there is a police officer, yes, the TNI is below, helping..

‘ With the People, the TNI is Strong!’

The TNI refers to Indonesia’s Armed Services…

..and the SatPol PP are the civic militia, auxiliaries who assist police work.

Good to see such gotong royong, cooperative effort, in the service of the community.

But why is Major General Achmad Riad so seemingly defensive?

It’s a good job well done, and admirably counter-acts concerns about the disgraceful antics by one uniformed individual…

Alarming – For All Of Us Who Love Indonesia!

…which we discussed less than a week ago.

Meanwhile, the heroic Nikita Mirzani….

Bravo Nikita! Sexy Star Faces Fanatic Mob Threat

Nifty Nikita, Foe Of Fanatics – And Has Good English,

…continues to dominate news stories here, along with the off-and-on scheming by the fanatics over their putative sectarian mob gathering next month.

So if by any chance she reads my blog ( unlikely) or any of her thousands of fans do ( quite likely) here’s an idea to contemplate.

Jakarta folks are generally cheerful enough but, like everywhere else, the tedious restrictions imposed by the Chinese Virus can be tough to endure.

Why not brighten up the city’s thoroughfares by an array of posters at every junction…

….depicting Nikita in some of her many delightful poses…
