Having issued more than a few warnings about so-called ‘charities’ with highly undesirable aspects in the West…
….I think it’s fair to mention that here in Indonesia too…
…., good-hearted folks can find they’ve donated to causes far from good.
There are few causes more heinous than Jemaah Islamiyah – JI- the ‘terrorist group responsible for the 2002 Bali bombing!’
All decent Indonesians of all creeds abhor that bestial, brutal gang….Satanic Surabaya ‘Parents’ Now Burning In Hell! ..but this week we read in the Jakarta Globe that JI ’has deployed charity boxes at minimarkets in several regions throughout Indonesia to trick the unsuspecting shoppers into giving money that would fund the group’s terror activities….’
Activities?
My point in mentioning this, apart from giving the cops a pat on the back, is simply to remind readers not to give to ‘charities….’
….about which not enough is known.

In Jakarta, it’s best to watch out for genuine needy beggars and give them some spare cash.
I remember you always looked for the man with mangled legs at Blok M, by the terminal.
Is he still around? I haven’t seen him for a long time.
As for those Western charities, if I want to help leftwing movements, I can send a cheque to the Labour Party, though I won’t!

I haven’t seen him either, my friend. I go to Blok M to buy Bohem cigarettes and it’s like a ghost town.
Very depressing.
