Stop Press – New-Borns – All Advice Re Home-Birth Welcome!
No more blogging today!
Tini (she’s Indonesian, of course, so pronounced Teeny) has just given birth….two kittens so far!
Ooops, three now!
=
…
I have had cats in or around my home for much of my life, as far back as I can remember, but this is the first time any of them has given birth on my garden bench!
I have provided clean sheets and a bowl of water, but understand it is NOT a good idea to touch them.
Any suggestions how to help her care for them will be much appreciated.

Good luck, Ross. You’ll be too busy to blog a lot for a while.

Tini will know exactly what to do, Ross, it’s her you have to take care of, just make sure she has enough to eat and drink!

Ah, Ross, now you have real-life drama under your own roof.
Knowing you of old, I have every confidence that the kittens will be taken good care of, but please try not to neglect the blog!

If your cat is outdoors which it sounds like it is, the biggest problem is other cats.
They can be mean to their own species so you need to keep an eye on the litter, put out a cardboard box the mother can use for defensive shelter.

You sound just a wee bit panicked, Ross.
No need.
How many kittens did Tini eventually produce?
If it’s more than three or four, then be prepared to lose one or two. They are weak and can easily get sick and die.
Not being harsh, but that’s my experience with farm cats.
The rest will be watched over by their mother though you must watch out for predators, as I read that Jakarta has a lot of rats and even stray cats will attack anything smaller than themselves.

If you are at home much of the time, as we all are, you can mind them while Momma Cat goes out to make more!

Sorry, not my field of expertise!
I second the calls by other readers, don’t let the kittens distract you too much.
We all enjoy this blog.
