A Psychologist’s View Of A Fanatic Mind!

An interesting piece in Kompas last week, on Rizieq the Fanatic, whom you may remember we wrote about quite a lot a few months ago.

Rizieq the Fanatic, cuffed

….a saga which continues, even since the banning of Rizieq’s FPI violent vigilante gang…

.. Bloodthirsty FPI fanatics

Despite having been detained, the erstwhile ‘grand imam’ of the now-banned sectarian vigilante gang, the FPI (self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front’)  Rizieq is still causing trouble.

He has been objecting strongly over plans to conduct his trial – for virus quarantine violations – virtually, the authorities intent on minimising risk of spreading the Chinese Virus, which has claimed 40,000 Indonesian lives already.

Those ill-disposed towards Rizieq might take the view that he would prefer a crowded court-room all the better to allow for disorder.

His white-shirt thugs have long been notorious for violence and vandalism.

However, Kompas reports that  ‘forensic psychologist Reza Indragiri Amriel has analyzed the reasons‘ for  Rizieq’s recalcitrance.

The psychologist reportedly believes that ‘the defendant in a virtual trial felt dehumanization. In addition, they also feel disconnected from the surrounding environment.’

Well, there we are.

Nothing to do with any prospect of mayhem, or the FPI tradition of showing up mob-handed…
