    Give The Striders Half-Crowns!

….one participant, who asked not to be named, said: ‘Runners love getting a T-shirt and a medal at the end of an event – it’s one of the traditions of running events.

‘This sounds like a bit of woke tokenism to me.’

I’ve never been to Leigh-on- Sea, but I was once a serious marathon runner..

London, NYC, Helsinki and Belfast (twice!)

…so I understand how disappointed  the town’s runners must be.

The town’s Striders running club, which organises it, said that for its next event on January 2 – with 650 runners – ‘our unique medals will be invisible’.

Wow, just what you need to show your loved ones or your pals in the pub!

And these ‘organisers’ are dressing up this mean move as a deed ‘to show how ‘green’ they can be!?

They don’t want to import medals fron Red China?

    Good!

    Neither they should!

    ..

It’s a hellish police state we should all boycott.

But why not get medals made in the UK?

If such items made locally cost too much, how about scavenging around for good old pre-decimal florins, or half-crowns?

    ½ Crown - Elizabeth II (1st portrait; no 'BRITT:OMN') - obverse½ Crown - Elizabeth II (1st portrait; no 'BRITT:OMN') - reverse

    ….

The impressive old coins must still be plentiful and a friendly local engraver could surely embellish them with an appropriate inscription?

Unlike today’s toy-town currency, the old Brit cash looked and felt good, and nothing remotely woko-loco about it!
