Jakarta Fanatics? Monday Misery? Traffic Chaos?

Happily, I have no plans to go into town on Monday, a dental appointment meaning my only movements around Jakarta will be localised..

    .

    .

Not keen on the dentist’s attentions, but even so, I prefer to go there than face rhe inevitable traffic chaos….

    .

    ..

…if large numbers of fanatic Islamists congregate at the Swedish Embassy, in Kuningan, not far from Mal Ambassador, as local media report.

Monday, Jan. 30, 11am, so it seems, rather than Sunday, when disruption to others would be minimised, a mob comprising members of ‘Alumni Brotherhood (PA) 212, National Movement to Guard Ulama’s Religious Edicts (GNPF Ulama), and the now-defunct Islam Defenders Front (FPI) will participate in the action.

    https://crisis24.garda.com/alerts/2023/01/indonesia-islamist-groups-plan-to-protest-in-jakarta-jan-30-to-denounce-burning-of-quran

    Hmmm.

We have of course discussed these groups often.

The ‘now-defunct‘ FPI was actually banned, and not before time…

    .

    ..

…the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front, ‘ the FPI is gone

    .

    .

    .

…but brazenly, the same extremists started a new FPI – Front Persaudaraan  Islam – Islamic Brotherhood Front  and its most notable personage?

Reuni 212, Habib Hanif Ajak Kibarkan Jutaan Bendera Tauhid dan Merah Putih

    Habib Muhammad Hanif Al-Athos.

I quote him on an event in France.

“Never mind, I don’t care. The virtual world says the young person was a  terrorist, I don’t care what they say, Brother….we are Muslims, the young person is a hero, Brother. Allahu akbar, that’s right,” shouted Habib Hanif.   https://news.detik.com/berita/d-5238100/mantu-habib-rizieq-sebut-bocah-pelaku-pemenggalan-di-prancis-pahlawan

Brutal Paris Beheader A ‘Hero,’ Says Jakarta Fanatic!

None other than the blood-thirsty son-in-law of the former FPI imam, the ineffable Rizieq!

    As for the ‘Alumni’

    – a baffling choice of name, as only a few of those who attend their demos seem likely to have university degrees –

    …please read previous reports…

…and make up your own minds.

    And the GNPF?

That ‘F’ stands for ‘fatwa,’ and while not everything Islamic ‘scholars’ pronounce on may be troubling…

    ..

Syamsul Maarif, General Secretary of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Jakarta

“If the act of adultery is by a married person, then stoning is the sentence, while if unmarried, then it’s whipping,” he said.

.Cops – “Islamist ‘Scholars’ Can Veto Religious Liberty”

Islamist ‘Scholars’ – “Don’t Complain if You’re Attacked!”

it’s fair to say that I have rarely agreed with their pronouncements.

Anyway, if you’re going into town on Monday…

    .

    .

    …don’t!

      WFH for me tomorrow.
You are correct, Ross, why will they not do the demo today?
On Sunday Jakarta is quite without traffic problem, so better for every worker so why?
I think many fanatic do not work, no job so do not care about people who do work.

Islamist Fanatics Rage At India – ‘Diskriminasi?’ Oya?’

I was at home last Friday, observing repairs to my roof and to my modem.

Lucky me, for had I gone into town to purchase another paper-back at the second-hand bookstore in Pasar Festival, on Jalan Rasuna Said…

    .

    .

…I’d have been confronted by traffic hell.

All the usual suspects, the FPI and the self-styled 212 ‘Alumni,’  had been out on the streets  – that very street, where the Indian Embassy is located – demonising India’s government for allegedly being mean to Muslims.

    https://m.detik.com/news/berita/d-4927977/massa-fpi-pa-212-berdatangan-polisi-pasang-barikade-di-depan-kedubes-india

The ‘212 Alumni’ gang sprang up during the witch-hunt against Jakarta’s Governor Ahok and I’ve yet to figure out how that mob that shuffled through Jakarta howling sectarian hate..

    .

    Ahok

The protesters, most of whom were men dressed in white Muslim attire, were heard yelling, “We want a Muslim governor,” “Burn Ahok!” and “Kafir!”   http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/10/14/thousands-hard-liners

    Slouching Towards Shariah

    …….

…have the nerve to call themselves ‘alumni’ – but they do.

Unlike the fairly recent ‘alumni’, the FPI ( Islam Defenders Front) has been around for decades, and its commitment to religious tolerance everywhere…

    .

Islamist Fanatics Threaten Peaceful Minority, Again!

FPI in West Java – ‘Let’s Burn Out the Orphans!’

    ….is quite widely recognised.

To be fair, I offer readers a chunk of the press release issued by the demo organisers…

PA 212 is demanding that the Indian government rescind amendments to the country’s citizenship law, which has been widely criticized as being discriminatory towards Muslims and blamed for the ongoing Hindu-Muslim violence in the country. PA 212 is also demanding that all forms of persecution against Muslims in India be stopped.

Furthermore, the group is urging the Indonesian government to sever diplomatic ties with India over human rights violations committed against Muslims there.

…and would only wish to add that the signatories to the above attack on ‘discrimination’ and religious persecution turn out to be none other than the FPI’s Sobri Lubis…

    .

    Sobri Lubis

    ..

….infamous for his bloodthirsty exhortation to a mob of ignoramuses, urging them to –

    Bunuh, bunuh, bunuh…’

    KILL, KILL, KILL’

    –  members of a peaceful and utterly inoffensive religious minority here in Indonesia. I think the video link still works.

Interestingly, also, I have never yet heard of either FPI or 212 issuing calls, never mind taking to the streets, to get Pakistan to stop religious persecution…

    Evil Triumphs In Pakistan, Again!

    …which is endemic there.

Unlike The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, India’s constitution does not elevate sectarian identity to a guiding principle. But I see no demos here complaining about that, nor do I expect to.

    .

    .

However, having avoided the traffic these extremists quite callously imposed on good people who actually work for a living –

I say callously because they deliberately chose a working day, a Friday afternoon, when normal people are either working or eager to get home from work, rather than a Sunday, to strut their selectively indignant stuff

-I see in the media that they must have enjoyed their day out, so much so that they are planning an action replay, NEXT Friday!

Thing is, these fanatics are not usually stupid – at least their leaders aren’t – so they understand very well what they are putting people through with their sectarian antics.

Next Friday, again, yet more honest citizens, most of whom will again be Muslim, in this 90% Muslim city,  will have their working day disrupted.

But there’s an upside to it all.

The more people get messed around, the more will voices be raised demnding the fanatics be taken down a peg or two.

Some voices are being raised already.

    This link –

    https://seword.com/politik/parahhh-ancaman-sweeping-wn-india-dianggap-sikap-GacFQlROclv

    – is from an Indonesian site. Google Translate isn’t up to much, but use it and you’ll get the gist!

Presumably, the fanatics realise they their inconsiderate behaviour is fomenting…

    .

…but perhaps they relish the conflict they are provoking. God knows I cannot fathom how such minds work.

I will not go to work Friday. Too much trouble.
The demo crowd are so selfish, most do not like to work, so they care nothing about workers, go on demos on working day, big traffic day.
If not so selfish, they can easily demo on Sunday when street is empty.
      Bad thinking, bad people.

I am always delighted when you go back to your old favourite topics, Ross. You used to bash these fanatics at least twice a week.
No downtown for me either, and I am giving my secretarials a day at home too.
They can work from home and avoid the traffic trouble caused by these nuisances.

New ‘Blasphemy’ Trial Set To Embarrass Indonesia?

The conviction and imprisonment of Jakarta’s best governor for years for the mediaeval ‘crime’ of ‘blasphemy’ certainly blighted Indonesia’s reputation across the civilised world.

It wasn’t just the process in the court but the vile sectarian hatred that made its presence felt, fanatics of all ages...

Ramadhan In Jakarta -‘Kill Ahok,’ Sing Parading Child-Bigots!

….shaming their country and their creed…

    Ahok

    .

The protesters, most of whom were men dressed in white Muslim attire, were heard yelling, “We want a Muslim governor,” “Burn Ahok!” and “Kafir!”   http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/10/14/thousands-hard-liners

Slouching Towards Shariah, Indonesia Jails Ahok

…inciting vicious violence, taking their cue from Islamist notables like the FPI ‘grand imam’ Habib Rizieq…

    .

…who in all seriousness suggested that quoting a verse merited the death penalty.

One might have thought the damage inflicted on Indonesia’s good name would have deterred even Islamist zealots from a repeat performance.

    Or not.

Once appeasement claims one victim, its slavering appetite merely grows.

Hence last week I noticed the Friday traffic was worse than usual, and that may have been caused by the ‘Alumni Association or PA 212 and the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI)’ who assembled a mob of their fans to  hold a demonstration in front of the Criminal Investigation Police HQ.

    ….

The rabble were howling about cases of alleged blasphemy by Sukmawati Soekarnoputri and Ahmad Muwafiq alias Gus Muwafiq.

This nonsense has been going on for more than a year and we have covered it already..

Blasphemy’ Traffic Jams, Again? Jakarta’s Latest Fanatic Friday!

…and as we reported then, the uptights are still banging on about a poem written and recited by Sukmawati, one of the late President Sukarno’s daughters.

She was back then reduced to tears, publicly remorseful, though no rational person could see anything wrong with what she had done.

    Sukmawati

Now, after a perfectly inoffensive speech last month- she allegedly compared Prophet Muhammad and Indonesian first President Soekarno as she asked who was the most meritorious figure for the country’s independence – the hounds are once more baying.

As then, the latest caterwauling comes from the gang calling itself PA212 , ( 212 alumni brotherhood) the very same that cheer-led the sectarian witch-hunt against Ahok!

The head of the 212 alumni brotherhood or PA 212, Slamet Maarif, said he had studied the context and content of the speech delivered by Sukmawati, comparing Prophet Muhammad with her father, Soekarno. He assessed that the remark was a blasphemy.

    ..

I suppose the next thing will be that mob shuffling a few kilometres – though they will likely, as usual, insist ludicrously on calling it a ‘long march’ – completely indifferent to the traffic chaos their extremist antics cause, howling for a trial.

Sad, really, and sadder still if the authorities give these ranters the prosecution they desire so deeply.

President Sukarno, a figure still much-revered by many Indonesians, must be turning in his grave.

He was a Muslim, as of course is his daughter, but he understood that this archipelago was and is a land of many creeds and never sought to enthrone religious bigotry.

Sectarian Fanatics Screw Up My Trip Downtown!

It was a fine sunny morning, but although there was no risk of rain, which makes Jakarta’s traffic even more awful than usual, I left early.

    .

    .

My plan was to do a spot of shopping – some plums and mangoes for a visitor tomorrow who likes fruit – then meet up with my young Indonesian crowd.

We get together for a chat quite often! Their English improves and we exchange views on current events. I’ve been doing this since I quit teaching – it’s fun.

I got to Harmoni, where I change buses, and jumped aboard a No.2…

    .

    ..

…which promptly turned left, east, instead of going due south as usual.

    Baffled, I fumed helplessly.

Then through the window I discerned the problem.

    IIslamist Fanatics!

They tend to wear white, with green trimmings, many of them being attached to the notorious Islam Defenders Front, the FPI..

    .

    fpi kill busddhist

    =Community OrganisationFPI in action!

    FPI_13

    =

…though there are several such groups, some of taking great delight in traipsing around town clad in ludicrous Arab gear.

    But why a Monday morning?.

Of course such people don’t give a hoot about the inconvenience they cause normal folks who go to work and earn an honest living. There were thousands prowling the city centre today, no evident inclination to earn a living or attend school.

    Nice life, being a sectarian!

Thanks to my hi-tech handphone, I’d worked out what the day’s excuse was.

    212.   Not just the matching date, but the self-styled 212 ‘alumni!’

I append a link to expand my explanation.

A group calling itself the 212 Rally Alumni was established to gather people who were involved in the rally on Dec. 2, 2016, to call for the prosecution of then-Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, a Christian of Chinese descent, for blasphemy.

You might have thought ‘alumni’ a singularly unsuitable word – it tends to be used in Western countries to mean ‘graduates’ but when I think back to the blood-thirsty bigots who shuffled through Jakarta demanding that good governor be not just prosecuted but murdered…

The protesters, most of whom were men dressed in white Muslim attire, were heard yelling, “We want a Muslim governor,” “Burn Ahok!” and “Kafir!”   http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/10/14/thousands-hard-liners-march-against-ahok.htm

    ——

    ahok

    Ahok

    ——

    …for quoting a religious verse.

After the shuffling rabble got their way and Ahok was imprisoned, a verdict and sentence that made global news  – and made me lose faith in this lovely country’s future…

Slouching Towards Shariah, Indonesia Jails Ahok

…I rarely blogged on Indonesian affairs. I still don’t.

So this morning’s dislocation of my journey was like having salt rubbed into an old wound.

I got to my get-together, not terribly late.

Why do you continue to live there?
That was my first question but consider it cancelled. I have thought a while about it.
We have the same kind of fanatics here too, haters who tell us their religion is not to be criticised.
And our weather is worse than where you are.

      Morning Ross.
I also had traffic problem yesterday.
These people do not care. They can demonstrate on weekend but instead make life hard for us on Monday.
I am happy when you write again about Indonesia. Please write more.
