Selamat Hari Pancasila – In Lombok Too?

Happy Pancasila Day, a relatively new public holiday in Indonesia, on which I commented last year…

….contemplating the meaning of the word, which is all about pluralism and brotherhood.

    https://rossrightangle.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/happy-pancasila-day-is-brotherhood-worth-a-hundred-meter-walk/

My observations then should still resonate with Indonesians who cherish their heritage of religious tolerance, which has been gravely undermined since last year…

    Ahok

….what with the imprisonment of Jakarta’s Christian Governor Ahok for the mediaeval ‘crime’ of ‘blasphemy’- in his case merely quoting a Koranic verse during his election campaign, a quip which his largely Muslim audience at the time took in good part, but which was then seized on…

Slouching Towards Shariah, Indonesia Jails Ahok

….by the worst elements in the archipelago, hordes of sectarian bigots marching through Jakarta calling for the honest, pleasant man to be ‘burned.’

We even had reports of brain-washed brats squealing similarly sectarian hate-grunts.

I thought you had missed that horrible news from Lombok but I should have known better. Better to save it for this national holiday that as you say is about tolerance and liberty, equality, fraternity.
If the police arrest those thugs that attacked the Lombok Ahmadis and if a court convicts them and gives them long prison terms then I will start believing that Pancasila still matters to the government.
I have few hopes that is going to happen.

I spent the day with some very nice Indonesians and it gives me a headache to picture what kind of country theywll have to live in if the government here doesnt do something to secure pancasila values.

The Lombok violence wasnt as bad as Cikeusik but it looks like nobody is going to do time for it.
I may be wrong and I hope I am wrong but if the culprits dont get serious prison time then it would be a clever move to give up up having a pancasila holiday.

No Prayers For The Hell-Bound? Good Move, UK Muslim Clerics!

Very welcome move by 130 Muslim clerics in Britain, who have refused to allow prayers for the three jihadist pigs.

“We will not perform the traditional Islamic funeral prayer over the perpetrators and we also urge fellow imams and religious authorities to withdraw such a privilege.”

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/05/imams-refuse-funeral-prayers-to-indefensible-london-bridge-attackers

Clearly this is a powerful message, and to use a religious sanction in this way shows serious commitment to decency and to democracy.

It also highlights the difference between those imams and certain bigoted brutes here in Jakarta, who told decent Muslims thought to be supporting Governor Ahok’s re-election that similar sanctions would be applied to their families…

    …..

..“Muslims who vote for an infidel leader or blasphemer do not deserve a funeral prayer at mosque.”

Bigots Menace Pluralist Muslims – ‘No Prayers For Your Dead!’

…unless they voted for the (ultimately successful) candidate backed by the vigilante gang called the FPI, the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front.’

This use of ‘spiritual’ strategies to pursue sectarian objectives was nothing new here, alas, as our linked previous post will confirm.

However, deploying a funeral ban against filthy savages…

    ……….

.UK police names two London attackers, says one previously known to them

    Butt and fellow-filth Redouane

    ======

….like the bestial Khuram Butt ( ingrate spawn of Pakistani ‘asylum seekers,’ we are told) and the rabid Rashid Redouanne, is entirely appropriate.

Since I have often urged preachers, of all creeds, to take a stand against evil, it would be churlish not to acknowledge this positive step.

Now what’s required in Britain, and in other lands, is an extension of the ban, to cover those who call for death to blasphemers and ‘apostates.’

    ======

    ——-

Overt incitement to kill innocents is surely just as heinous as the deed exhorted, equally deserving of Hell.

Jakarta Post’s True Colours – ‘Hands off Islamists!’

Most of us understand the clear difference between Muslims and Islamists.

One of the former had a modest meal in my home last night. Another will likely drop by for a pleasant visit over the weekend. The folks I met up with in town yesterday were Muslims.

They are fasting, most of them, this Ramadhan. They don’t eat pork. Most of them don’t share my enthusiasm for beer.

    =

    =

They are normal people who follow their religious customs and respect the fact that a lot of people have either different religious practices or no religious affiliation at all.

    Islamists are something else entirely.

They are bigoted fanatics who are essentially intolerant and believe that their ways should dictate our ways. They hold power in Indonesia’s Aceh Province, where women of ANY creed are coerced into head-shrouding under the oppressive shariah code.

Islamist rule in Aceh is an endless nightmare…

Okay, we know that the Jakarta Post’s parent company, Gramedia, has a shameful record of collaboration with the Islamists, to the extent of overseeing a Hitlerian book-burning bonanza in support of the MUI’s vendetta against freedom of thought and expression.

A question all the more important as we celebrate this, Pancasila Day!

    Indonesia’s Morning After – What’s MinahExit Mean?

A sudden flurry of reports about something we have frankly never heard of before, the Gerakan Referendum Minahasa.

    That’s the Minahasa Referendum  Movement.

And Minahasa refers to the ethnic group, largely Christian by faith, and good soldiers by tradition, who live in North Sulawesi.

That’s also where the admirable protest took place against the arrival of an Islamist fanatic not long ago.

Manado Mayhem! Jakarta Post Flouts Its Own ‘Bold’ Motto?

But it wasn’t till very recently that this GMR movement hit the headlines.

Again, it’s important to note the coincidence of its appearance with the shocking imprisonment of the Christian Governor of Jakarta on bizarre ‘blasphemy’ charges.

    =

    ——–

No coincidence at all, really, because the driving force behind bringing Ahok to trial was an Islamist fanatic cabal, IslamoNazi FPI leaders in cahoots with the self-styled ‘scholars’ of the MUI.

    =

Indonesian Press Day,’ 9th Feb – Fake News? If Only!

    =

Ahok behind bars symbolises the growing power of intolerance – if you can’t utter a quote from the Koran in public without risking draconian punishment, how many Christians, or Hindus, or Buddhists, can be expected to feel at ease in a society which thus degrades pluralism.

The thing people overseas need to remember is that while Indonesia may be the largest Muslim majority country in the world, it’s also home to significant minorities of non-Muslims.

    =

    =

Bali, for example, is a Hindu island, while large Christian communities flourish in Ambon, North Sulawesi,Kalimatan (Borneo) and Sumatra ,where there are tough Bataks and a large Chinese ethnic minority in Medan. There’s also the Catholic island of Flores.

And even in Jakarta, up to 10% of the capital’s population may be Christian, Buddhist or other religions.

Sensible Indonesian leaders have always understood this and so religious tolerance was always not simply a moral focus but a recognition of how to keep the country together. That common-sense approach existed from the start, through Sukarno’s personality cult regime and Suharto’s dictatorship.

    =

    General Suharto

    =

Now, however, fanatics have become a major influence in Indonesian politics. We have seen examples aplenty in recent years, outrageous intolerance against Buddhists…

Tanjung Balai’s Burning Temples – A History of Bigotry!

…Hindus… Bali Hindu King – Don’t Kill Our Cows! Muslim ‘Scholars’ – Get Lost!!  …

….and of course Christians. Oppressed Christians In The Street Heat, In Pluralist Indonesia

    =

    =

Under President SBY a ferocious discriminatory diktat was issued, the anti-Ahmadiyah Tri-Ministerial Decree, and despite President Jokowi’s talk of pluralism, persecuted Christians in Bogor, Bekasi, etc have had no justice.

X-Rated Xmas – Foul-Mouths Bully Christians, As ‘Moderate’Mayor Denies They Exist!’

The imprisonment of Ahok for ‘blasphemy’ has confirmed for many people, not just religious minorities but decent Muslims, true Indonesian conservatives who cling to the traditional tolerance referred to above, that one day, in the not too distant future, they could rise from their beds to the waking nightmare of an Islamic Republic.

If that were to happen, then separatism could, would, be a serious threat.

Again, please note, Indonesia does not, like the UK, afford separatists all normal rights and privileges.

    =

    SNP separatist leader Nicola Sturgeon

    =

If some local equivalent of that ghastly Scots shrew Sturgeon started shrilling for ‘independence’ for any province or island, she’d be charged with treason, and if convicted, she’d have some real problems to whine about.

In June 2007 in Ambon, these RMS political prisoners danced the Cakalele and raised the RMS flag in front of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono…

RMS Political Prisoners Reunite With Families After 7-Year Wait

Hardly surprising therefore that the local cops in Sulawesi were vigorously denying any sign of separatism, despite news photos clearly depicting referendum banners.

    ==========

Hasil gambar untuk spanduk gerakan referendum minahasa

    http://news.metrotvnews.com/daerah/Rb1OZJ2K-kapolda-tak-ada-referendum-negara-minahasa

    http://www.tribunnews.com/regional/2017/05/15/jangan-biarkan-sulut-terpecah-belah-lmp-sulut-tolak-isu-referendum-minahasa

But this ‘separatism,’ if separatism it is, is the inevitable consequence of Islamist intolerance. When decent folk of any religion see blood-thirsty fanatics treated as respectable notables by leading politicians, they recoil in disgust.

But when that disgust is compounded by the realisation that their fundamnetal right to worship as they please is therefore under  threat, and when their form of worship corresponds to their local cultural heritage…?

What else can the Government expect?

I am no supporter of separatism. How the people of Indonesia arrange their affairs is up to them, and from 1945 they have generally been quite gifted in working out ways to live together.

But I do hope, as somebody who has lived here happily for the best part of twenty years and has watched ever more sadly the rise of Islamist intolerance, that somebody in the corridors of power in Jakarta can, even at this eleventh hour, reverse the process of jihadist Arabisation.

    Viva Pancasila!

Workers? Wasters! Pig-Ignoramuses Burn Ahok Flowers!

I took my own advice today and stayed home, knowing that the May Day demo downtown would make any gallivant pointless- traffic in Jakarta is always tough but demos make it awful.

    =

    =

A glorious sunny day in my front yard instead. Cooked some rendang beef, read a book – nice!

But not so nice was the atrocious bigot vandalism that occurred during the demo, a gang of mangy louts amok, burning flowers at City Hall, flowers left by good citizens to honour their good governor.

    ==========

Having lost the gubernatorial race to Anies Baswedan in April, Ahok was greeted last Friday at city hall by a thousands of well-wishers and more than 3,000 karangan bunga or flower boards thanking him for his service.

    • But were they trades unionists?

    • Most of the workers, the decent workers, had their march and made their protests peacefully.

    • =====
    • ====

Sounds to me like the arsonists were more like the sort of pig-ignorant savages who a few months ago were marching through Jakarta with placards demanding that Ahok himself be burned!

    =====

    Here’s what happened back then.

The protesters, most of whom were men dressed in white Muslim attire, were heard yelling,

“We want a Muslim governor,” “Burn Ahok!” and “Kafir!”

    It’s all very sad.

As sad, even, as the fact that one of the big labour federations chose to accompany those jihadist bigots on their bizarre ‘blasphemy’ march.

The KSPI even joined hardline Islamists on the streets in previous mass demonstrations against the governor, the latter calling for his arrest and imprisonment for alleged blasphemy.. Indonesia: May Day demonstrators target Ahok flower boards

Although millions of decent people – both Muslims and Christians – voted for Ahok and were desperately disappointed that he lost to a man who openly courted IslamoNazis, they accepted defeat gracefully, showing none of the moronic rancour displayed by Clinton’s millennial brats in the USA.

I hope the real workers’ leaders will disown the anti-social scum who burned the flowers. They are a disgrace to Indonesia.

Kasihan Kali Jodo – Ahok’s ‘Legacy’ At Risk From Thuggery?

One of the few instances of ill-judgement on Jakarta Governor Ahok’s part (in my opinion) was the destruction of Kali Jodo, that seedy little kampung in North Jakarta.

    =

It could have been a great nightlife centre – instead it was emptied

    =

I covered it at the time…

Wong Cilik, Ahok, TNI – Tragedi Kali Jodo

    …and still think he blundered.

What was the point in needlessly getting rid of the clutch of cheap bars there, and not only those but also a large number of poor people who lived in and around them. Surely the fact that his action was cheered on by Islamist bigots, who were and remained his sworn enemies, should have made him think twice?

A month or so ago, I was in a taxi up that way and passed the place. I had to ask the cabbie if that was really Kali Jodo. It was, he said, and acknowledged that it had ‘indeed changed.’

A fancy looking community centre  – or ‘publicly integrated child friendly space (RPTRA)‘ – had replaced the cramped alleys, and teens were flocking there that day for some event.

    All fine and dandy?

Sure, until I read Kompas  – 25/4 – where it turns out that ‘preman,‘ criminals, are doing their best (worst?) to take control. Juru Parkir Liar Kuasai RPTRA Kalijodo – Kompas.com

People who want to leave their motorbikes in the parking lot are being forced to pay a 50% mark-up on the fee. And illicit vendors have set up shop on the grassy field adjacent, under the ‘protection’ of persons named in the article.

    So much for reformation.

War on bars, Kali Jodo’s final days

    =

Ahok’s show of force  – cops and soldiers to back up the coerced evictions – won him some plaudits from the oh-so-respectable elements in Jakarta, with whom, alas, he shares a certain priggish streak, as when he was publicly appalled by a bikini party.  ”Outrageous” Activity in Jakarta Pools? OMG – BIKINIS!

    Ahok

    =

But it went down badly with the wong cilik, the little people, those without much in the way of resources. And there are a lot more of them than there are self-righteous rich, in this teeming city.

I wouldn’t say their dismay caused his downfall. Islamist bigotry was the major cause of that, and we must steel ourselves for more of that horror to come, with ‘shariah nightlife’ on the cards.

Hey, Jakarta Girls! Make The Most Of Kartini Day!

But things could have been different.

    ——————-oooooooooooooo

    PS

Ahok has since said he is asking relevant authorities to get the situation sorted, -he reckons the preman2 don’t realise he’s still governor, till the official hand-over later this year.

And the new deputy governor, whose alarming scheme to transform Jakarta with ‘shariah nightlife’ is a topic of fretful conversation all over town, has weighed in too.  Sandiaga Uno sensibly agreed that Ahok must be supported in efforts to curb lawlessness.

But then – if my translation is not skewed by my early rise this fine Jakarta morning –  has put forward a plan to reform the preman2 as security guards.

Aaah, training foxes to guard hen-houses?

I’d have thought, given his enthusiasm for shariah, he might have proposed a fine old-fashioned shariah flogging…

    =

    —-

…with a hooded brute whipping the convicted poor (rarely if ever the convicted rich) before a slobbering mob – after all, that’s what happens in Aceh, the only province of Indonesia where shariah ‘law’ prevails.

Actually, corporal punishment for real criminals is no bad idea.

    BUT…

    000

    The Sharia Hell of Aceh!

What causes loathing and revulsion among decent people in Aceh is that normal human behaviour, like a girl sitting on a park bench holding hands with her boy-friend, is criminalised.

    But that’s shariah!

Bigots Menace Pluralist Muslims – ‘No Prayers For Your Dead!’

Between Jan. 1 and March 8, the agency pulled down 336 banners that were said to contain discriminatory language targeted against incumbent Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who is currently on trial for blasphemy.

    http://eyewitness.thejakartaglobe.com/news/authorities-remove-over-500-provocative-banners-ahead-of-runoff-election/

    ====

The rabid Islamist hate-gangs might be thought to have hit a new low, with the base threat included among those banners -.

“Muslims who vote for an infidel leader or blasphemer do not deserve a funeral prayer at mosque.”

    ….

    Hasil gambar untuk nasty

Refusing simple prayers for families as they bury their loved ones is about as scummy as it gets, but it’s not a NEW low at all.

This kind of intimidation by evil ‘clerics’ was on display four years ago, when we reported similar mean-spirited nastiness in that cauldron of bigotry, Bekasi.

Islamists Lower Than Snakes’ Bellies – ‘Bury Your Own Dead If You Approve a Church!’

‘Anyone who supports the building of a church will not receive burial rites for their deceased  – from the clerics of East Pondok Jagung

    ———-

I quote again what I said then -‘bigot beasts who attempt intimidation on decent members of their own Muslim community already burdened by bereavement?’

You can flip back to that post or look at the story in another part of the media, confirming the horrid brutes’ heinous tactics –

A neighbor of the church confessed to The Jakarta Post that local clerics had asked him and other residents to sign a petition against constructing the HKBP church building and threatened not to pray at their funerals if they failed to cooperate; the majority of his neighbors signed the document under duress.
     http://www.christianpost.com/news/indonesian-muslims-call-for-halt-to-christianization-45778/

The acting governor (while Ahok is campaigning) is a man named Sumarsono and he has stated that most of the banners that were taken down were not put up by local residents but that it was part of a large, city-wide effort by an unnamed organization.

C’mon, journos, find out and publish the name of this ghastly ‘UNNAMED’ gang!

The governor said most of the banners pulled down displayed similar fonts and print types. He has ordered police to investigate and arrest those behind the distribution of the banners.

I hope the Jakarta Globe does not let this story drift.

How many of the sectarian swine will actually be caught and detained? How many will be prosecuted?

    What sentences will they get?

HUNT THEM DOWN and LOCK ‘EM UP!
