Mal Puri Indah Tutup? Nil Desperandum!

On Friday I felt that familiar craving…MEAT!

So I hopped on an angkot…

…and went to Puri Mall, only to find it totally shut.

I like going walkabout there, people-watching.

And the adjacent Carrefour, while open, was devoid of customers, maybe a dozen max?

Puri Mall, old photo – it’s expanded since I first went there 20 years ago!

As said, Mal Puri Indah was closed, except for Hero supermarket and the pharmacist, though Century apotek had moved to a temporary new location, a makeshift little outpost in front of Hero.

There was meat, but the prices did not appeal to me, so I merely bought eggs ( 50% discount!) and took a hopeful walk down to Hypermart…

…which was very busy, loads of people-watching, and where I went on an extravagant splurge, two packs of rendang beef…

…my favourite Indonesian dish, for a weekend treat – and two frozen packs of kerbau (buffalo) meat.

Also stocked up on catfood, pasta, onions and other bits and pieces…

    …and thus went home rejoicing!

Why am I telling you all this?

A woman was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly shot at three McDonald’s restaurant employees in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after they told her the dining room was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic

Report: Woman Shoots at McDonald’s Workers After Being Told Dining Area Closed

Simply to point out that there are more sensible alternatives to finding one’s first-preference destination inaccessible during the Chinese Virus Crisis than shooting the staff!

      Rendang Kerbau! Or Kerbau Rendang?
I learned to love that when I worked in Surakarta.
That buffalo meat is just as good as beef but it needs to simmer longer on the stove.
If you are having onions with it, all the better.
      I am quite envious.

Roro Fitria Lawan Jokowi! Aku Diam Aja!

President Jokowi has plenty of opponents, despite his clear victory in the elections not long ago, and making progress with his agenda will not be easy.

But now he faces a full-frontal onslaught from a formidable female whom my readers seem to appreciate.  Certainly my previous post on the lady Kasihan Roro Fitria! has been topping my ‘views’ list for weeks!

     Roro Fitria

“Where is his promise and vision, that he would always protect the underprivileged,” said Roro Fitria (11/22/14).

    Speaking of visions…!!!!!

The visual delight concerned was talking about the controversial increase in the price of fuel, which has affected even me.

    angkot angkots

I had a fairly lively dispute with an angkot driver last week when he jumped the gun and demanded a higher fare before it came into effect.

The impressive actress (star of Bangkitnya Suster Gepeng – watch it here Bangkitnya Suster Gepeng (full movie) – YouTube ) declared that she for one did not agree with the increase in fuel…”I disagree with it, not for me personally, but I prefer to think of the fate of the  common people…namely the increase in the price of food, transportation, and other things! ” BBM Naik, Roro Fitria : Mana Janji Jokowi ? Sumedang.Info22 Nov 2014

Hmmm…normally I tend to dismiss celebrities who stick their noses into politics, since I see no reason why their opinions should command any more attention than those of humbler folk, like, perhaps, my Jakarta angkot drivers.
But it has to be said that Roro could say almost anything and I’d find myself hard-pushed to disagree with her.
