It’s Hastings Day – Talking Points On An English Beach
It was on 14th October 1066 that a large number of men of military age crossed the Channel in fairly small boats, to disembark on an English beach.

Deja vu?
At least Duke William and his Norman soldiery were absolutely open about their intent to disdain the people of the country they landed in, and bend them to their will.
The native population were equally forthright.
It was a healthier age.
.
.
Uninvited intruders were not welcome and should be driven back to whence they came, with whatever level of physical force that might be required.
I’m just musing on what might have befallen any of King Alfred’s counsellors who told his thanes on the eve of battle that the Normans were ‘just like you and me.’
Priti’s Girl Exalts Crimmigrants : ‘Just Like You And Me!’
Or any Anglo-Saxon lawyers who demanded payment from the royal treasury to prepare and present arguments as to why it would be a much better course of action to welcome William’s men-at-arms…
.
….feed them with dishes to which they felt accustomed – and entitled – and provide them with suitable accommodation, also paid for by levies imposed on the native population…
.
.
….and telling them they were free to come and go as they pleased, in England’s then much greener and more pleasant land.
Would any such Anglo-Saxon attorneys pleading the invaders’ case have felt perhaps threatened?

What would have become of them?
……
PS – It’s only fair to remind ourselves that the brave defenders lost their battle.
Yet at least they went down fighting!

I liked this.
It does put it all into a historical perspective.
A good little read over afternoon coffee – – or tea, if you’re English!

At least they went down fighting.
That sums up the differences between those days and these days.
The rotten media and sell-out politicians and the PC police make it hard to fight back but it’s still our duty.
