“A Wise And Noble Step?” Islamic ‘Scholars’ On Terrorist Unleashed In Indonesia!

It’s always a little difficult for us foreigners here in Indonesia to comment critically on the release of terrorists.

That’s because many Western countries have responded to the terrorist threat on their own territory in such an insipid and ineffectual way.

In France ( French terror police says 15,000 Islamic radicals on watch list  –Isil priest killer was tagged and on terror watch list ) and Germany (Hinder Dangerous Jihadists? OMG…That’s ”Hardline!”  –Jihadists Known To Police ‘A Common Element?’ Outrageous!  .

…evil men are free to roam the streets

    Most certainly in the UK…

…where the spineless government of Theresa May has chosen to open the door to the return of rats on the run, jihadist scum who went off to join the ISIS rape-gang and now come scuttling ‘home,’ not to face a firing squad, as should be the case, but to batten onto the public purse.

However, the release of a wicked old man, who has never recanted his infamous exhortations to  violence and expressions of sectarian hate….

    —————

    abu-bakar-ba-asyir

    oo

…has shocked many here, not just us foreigners, but many Indonesians too, although some of us were not overwhelmingly astonished.

Less than a year ago we recognised the possibility of such a move, when the brute got remission Terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba’asyir gets 3-month on the country’s national holiday.

    ====

Independence Day Brings Bigot Ba’asyir Nearer Release!

At that time, we reminded readers of his vile ranting incitement against tourists in Bali, that video that exposed his backward bigotry for all the world to see..

In the video, Bashir urges those in the village to beat up tourists that disrespect Islamic ways, saying, “If there are infidels here, then beat them up. Do not tolerate them.”

Later in the sermon, he likens non-Muslims to crawling “worms, snakes, maggots.” He also says infidels ruin moral values by exposing their skin at the beach.

    ………..

    Worm about to turn?

“Take a look at Bali”, he said.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-03-24/bakar-bashir-calls-for-violence-against-infidel/1081632

At the very least, one might have hoped the terror convict would be required to issue a public retraction and apology for his nauseating words.

But evidently not- check out reports over the past three years alone.

    ————–

Imprisoned terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba’asyir has officially pledged his allegiance, or bai’at, to join the jihadist movement of a militant group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, according to an official…

    Nusakambangan

    –.

Ba’asyir, the spiritual leader of the Indonesian terror network Jamaah Islamiyah, made his bai’at to ISIS with 23 other prisoners in a praying room of what was supposed to be the highly secured Pasir Putih penitentiary on Nusakambangan Island off Cilacap, Central Java.

Jailed Terrorist Convict Ba’asyir Pledges Oath With ISIS

Okay, that’s only one report, but it is hardly the only one!

Terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba’€™asyir is set to lose his long-held position as the region’€™s spiritual leader of a terrorist network after expelling his sons and top aides from his organization, Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT), following their refusal to support the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS.

And check out another post on our blog…

So Will Bigot Ba’asyir Be Unleashed, Since God’s On His Side?

…which touches on the mind-set of the Islamic ‘scholars’ who are rejoicing at the beast’s release.

        MUI – Indonesian Scholars Council

    ==================================

President Jojowi’s decision to uncage Ba’asyir is, we are told, based on ‘compassion’ – a virtue never part of Ba’asyir’s character – but needless to say, questions have been asked about the timing, just a month or three before the election in which Jokowi faces his old foe Prabowo.

BUT…we have been warned not to ask too many questions!

MUI’s Saadi  – ” “MUI thanks God for the decision…”

    =

MUI Vice Chairman Zainut Tauhid Saadi urged the public to not harbor any assumption or make any allegation related to the release of Ba`asyir, as it could erase the legal essence.

Not exactly sure what that means, but Saadi’s other words are clear enough. The ‘scholars’ of the MUI have welcomed the uncaging of the terror convict as ‘a wise and noble legal step…’

And Saadi reminds us that MUI Chairman Ma`ruf Amin had once proposed the release of Ba`asyir early last year on health and humanitarian grounds.

Since when it was wise to let so very bad a man out of prison when he is not finished his sentence and will not regret his crime. Since when it was noble to let out an Indonesian who does not respect Indonesia but instead respects ISIS.

Good On Ya, Scomo – Oz Protests Plan To Free Ba’asyir The Unrepentant!

    Lukman

    • I used to think Indonesia’s Religious Affairs Minister, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, represented a great leap forward, and, compared to the intolerant bigot who held that job before him…

    =

Appointed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono earlier this month to run the new task force into pornography, Ali told reporters in Jakarta yesterday that a set of universal criteria must be decided. He added that, “one criteria will be when anyone is wearing a skirt above the knee.”

But Lukman’s pronouncements on the unleashing of convicted terror beast Abu Bakr Ba’asyir  “A Wise And Noble Step?” Islamic ‘Scholars’ On Terrorist Unleashed In Indonesia!– make me wonder, notably if he understands what forgiveness is all about.

Lukman has asked the Indonesian people to forgive what the Jakarta Post euphemistically calls the ‘firebrand cleric‘ – whom most people would describe as a vicious, villainous fanatic. The JP goes on to remind us that Ba’asyir is a terror convict believed to have been responsible for the 2002 Bali bombings.

    https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2019/01/20/he-is-really-old-religious-affairs-minister-asks-indonesians-to-forgive-baasyir.html

Even given that belief, some people might, depending how their minds function, be prepared to take a relaxed view of the jihadist fiend’s release, since, as an octogenarian, he will, sooner rather than later, be dead, and burning in Hell for all eternity.

    =

    Related image

    =

    But even so…

Lukman’s call for ‘public support’ of  Jokowi’s decision is apparently founded on a misunderstanding of forgiveness, which ( in the religion I was raised in – Protestantism) depended on repentance. If somebody says he’s sorry, and means it, then you should forgive him.

Admittedly, I’m no expert on Muslim theology, but certainly here in Indonesia, Muslims who get together on Idul Fitri, Eid, after the Ramadan month, ask each other for forgiveness – mohon ma’af…

    Related image

    …for anything they’ve done wrong.

But Lukman simply says “Every religion teaches us to forgive even the sinful ones. [Ba’asyir]’s condition has weakened because of old age and illness, so let us forgive him.”

What, even if the sinful sectarian is not even a tiny bit sorry for the evil he’s done?

And THAT is why the concern expressed by Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison is so welcome.

    =

    Australia’s PM Morrison

    =

If Ba’asyir the Beast had finally recognised what an affront to humanity he is, if he had promised to kneel down outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta in a public show of remorse for his foul words and deeds – heck, if he had disowned his monstrous ideology and sworn allegiance to the pluralist Pancasila principles of the Republic of Indonesia…

But another issue of the JP tells us exactly how sorry Ba’asyir is.

Ba’asyir, who is eligible to be released on parole on Dec. 13, insists on DEFYING a general condition of parole that requires him to express LOYALTY to the national ideology Pancasila, which is STIPULATED in Government Regulation No. 99/2012 on sentence reduction for inmates, including those convicted of terrorism….So [Ba’asyir] will be released unconditionally. His house will not be guarded by police. He can opine that DEMOCRACY IS A TRANSGRESSION (OF ISLAM) – We will let him…” (my capitalisation)

That was said by Jokowi’s lawyer who thinks it acceptable that that Ba’asyir would continue to insist that he ”would only obey God.”

    https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2019/01/19/lawyer-says-baasyirs-release-not-gift-from-jokowi.html

Of course none of these quibblings would be necessary if only Indonesia executed every terrorist, as happened, to general joy, when the Bali Bomb Pigs were shot…

    =

    Bali Bomb Pigs

    …but…

Independence Day Brings Bigot Ba’asyir Nearer Release!

After a very relaxing holiday, I was somewhat refreshed and thus getting read to go into downtown Jakarta for another round of partying…

    …………………

    OldiesButGoodies-1

    …………….

…. it’s not bad, this retirement caper!

However, I had been skimming through the news and was taken horribly aback to learn that the notorious Abu Bakr Ba’asyir, serving time for his involvement in terrorism, was among several thousand inmates granted remissions.

    —————

    abu-bakar-ba-asyir

Terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba’asyir gets 3-month

    toooooo

While we must be grateful that the government here has not emulated Erdolf’s move to turn loose thousands of criminals to make room in Turkish jails for his political opponents…

    erdogan

…and we know that Independence Day remissions are a regular feature of the Indonesian calendar, this case focuses attention on what sort of  good or bad conduct is taken into account in such decisions.

According to the relevant prisons spokesman, Ba’asyir had fulfilled administrative requirements for a remission, such as having served one-third of his sentence and cooperating as a justice collaborator…

Interesting.  It was only months ago we read about the latest development in this case Abu Bakar Baasyir moved to isolation cell in Nusakambangan and some years back the Supreme Court overturned a lower court’s move to cut his very fair sentence.

Ba’asyir has long been recognised as a hate-preacher. Australians who like their holidays on Balinese beaches will not have forgotten that video.

In the video, Bashir urges those in the village to beat up tourists that disrespect Islamic ways, saying, “If there are infidels here, then beat them up. Do not tolerate them.”

Later in the sermon, he likens non-Muslims to crawling “worms, snakes, maggots.” He also says infidels ruin moral values by exposing their skin at the beach.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-03-24/bakar-bashir-calls-for-violence-against-infidel/1081632

    oooooooo

A couple of years ago, he was again bleating about his confinement. He not only had the fanatic Islamist FPI gang-leader Habib Rizieq along to support him…

    Rizieq with Bigot Ba’asyir

…but also claimed backing from a much more distinguished source!

So Will Bigot Ba’asyir Be Unleashed, Since God’s On His Side?

    oooo

We worms, snakes and maggots should note that video report dates from 2008, but if there were any indications he had become a reformed character, I might listen calmly to arguments for his inclusion in the remission list.

But what exactly has he said or done to indicate any such repentance?

Has he sent messages to his followers across the archipelago telling them that it’s the duty of every citizen to cooperate with the government’s efforts to root out jihadist evil?

Let’s just go back two years.

    ————–

Imprisoned terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba’asyir has officially pledged his allegiance, or bai’at, to join the jihadist movement of a militant group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, according to an official…

    Nusakambangan

    –.

    ————

And one of his sons lamented that – ‘€œOur father has said that anyone refusing to support ISIL should step aside.’  Sons, top aides abandon Ba’ asyir over ISIL, form new jihadist group

So has Ba’asyir since shown any signs of repentance?

Has he apologised for his disgusting insults to those of us whose grievous sin it is to sunbathe without bukinis?

Has he condemned the ISIS rape-gang?

Has he told his followers that it is a heinous sin to do harm to ‘infidels’ or ‘apostates’ or ‘blasphemers?’

If not, most civilised people would surely say he should be getting NO remissions!

If he has abandoned bigot ways, he should be put on national tv to denounce the evils of Islamist intolerance.

THAT, in my opinion, would earn him three months remission.

I was angry when I read about this old fanatic getting remission but not surprised. A couple of years ago there was a very good article in Australia about how Indonesia releases these terrorists not just a little bit early but when they only have served half their time.
Masykur Abdul Kadir, who helped the bombers rent a house in Bali and drove them around surveying targets, was released in 2010 after serving seven years of his 15-year sentence.

Anif Solchanudin, who sheltered terror mastermind Noordin M Top and helped plan the 2005 attacks, was released in July last year after also serving only seven years of his 15 years

I agree with you completely on this Ross. He cant be reformed in any way, so should never be released. In this country however they think differently
I think we will see him let loose soon on grounds of age.
Hundreds of other terrorists have got out early, including that one who did the Sarinah shootings. Jokowi should be taking terror as seriously as drug crime. Parole and remissions should never be given to terrorists.

Soft On The Forces of Darkness? Indonesia Needs Answers – From the Jakarta Post!

An excellent article in the Jakarta Post last week….

    Has Indonesia gone soft
    on terrorism?

….reminded us that, at the end of last month, Afif Abdul Majid, a longtime colleague and supporter of Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, was convicted by the Central Jakarta District Court of providing funds for a terrorist training camp in Aceh in 2010.

One might have hoped for life imprisonment, or better still the firing squad.

Islamist terrorists are much more evil than drug-smugglers, after all. At least dope-pedlars don’t pretend they’re doing God’s work.

But instead he got a mere four years, and can appeal.

This foul fanatic has  publicly declared his support for the Islamic State (IS) movement, but with time served, could be unleashed on society in two years. Silly little sentences are no rarity for evil scum here.  Indonesian Beheaders of Schoolgirls – Poso Pigs Up For Parole Soon?

An important part of the JP article explains why I only just caught up with it. The court case and verdict and sentence has received surprisingly little media attention…

    I wonder why!

     “Islam cannot win without jihad…”

    ooooooooooooooooooooooo

The authors of the article tell us more than enough about Afif.

Since the formation of Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT)….Afif has been there by his side…at JAT’s inauguration event in Bekasi in September 2008, “Ba’asyir was the major attraction, but Afif Abdul Majid was the man in charge”.
    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2015/07/10/has-indonesia-gone-soft-terrorism.html

Well, everyone knows what an evil old beast Ba’asyir is. He got 15 years a while ago, but is still allowed to hold court behind bars, spreading his vile sectarian hate among both fellow-prisoners and equally vile visitors who flock to his place of confinement.

Why Tolerate This “Safe Haven for Jihadists?”

     ——————————————–

    abu-bakar-ba-asyir Ba’asyir

    000000000000

    But what about JAT?.

Abhorred by all respectable citizens? Untouchable by responsible institutions?

Uh…not quite! Here’s an action photo, from the Jakarta Post, showing how that newspaper welcomed JAT jerks into its inner sanctum, no doubt graciously offering coffee and biscuits to the jihadist fanatics!

    ==========.

.  Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT) Jakarta branch leader Haris Amir Falah (right) talks to The Jakarta Post chief editor Meidyatama Suryodiningrat (left) regarding the publication of an editorial cartoon, featuring the flag of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), at the Post’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday, while members of Haris’ delegation look on.

JAT lodged a protest with the Post on Tuesday for publishing the cartoon, which contained religious symbolism that may have caused offense. The Post published an apology on its front page on Tuesday and immediately retracted the cartoon. –http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014/07/09/islamic-groups-protest-jpcartoon.html

You see, that’s the trouble reading the JP’s not infrequent pro-pluralism items. You can’t really take them seriously. Oh, I don’t mean the authors of the article. I’m sure they are good guys and certainly asking the right questions.

But the Jakarta Post, and its publishers, Gramedia, are cop-outs in the war on evil. Gramedia even engaged, at bigot behest, in a Nazi-style book-burning.

Grovelling Gramedia’s BookBurning Bonanza – Appeasing Fanatics

    • burning books

    • Gramedia’s Hitlerite book-burning

    • ====================

    • the books were burned outside the Bentara Budaya cultural hall in the Kompas Gramedia complex in Palmerah, West Jakarta. Company president director Wandi S. Brata oversaw the book burning, along with several Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) officials, including deputy chairman Ma’ruf Amin. Jakarta Globe 13/6/12

And the JP obseqiously omitted to condemn its masters’ grovelling to intolerance.

Until they shape up and speak out, I find it impossible to take the Jakarta Post seriously.

I don’t think anybody takes the Jakarta Post seriously, Ross.

It’s more like a hobby for the very rich middle aged men who own it and a halfway-house for the not quite yet rich young Indonesians who hope to get a job in a real newspaper after serving their time at the Post.

But you are quite fair in what you say. Gramedia proved it was not interested in freedom of expression when it burned those books. They don’t believe in anything, except business as usual. I am glad you keep reminding people of that.
Until they apologize and put that book back on sale, they get no custom from me, or I hope anyone who really cares about pluralism in Indonesia.
That goes for the Jakarta Post too, until they condemn what Gramedia did.
Why do we bother? As much chance as a snow-storm in Senopati!
