Xmas On Street For Victims of Indonesia’s Islamists
Even a God-awful newspaper can sometimes do something good.
That was my reaction when I saw that the Jakarta Post had reported on the Sunday service opposite President Jokowi’s Palace downtown, held by two congregations that have suffered and are still suffering persecution by the nastiest Islamist bigots in the land.
——–
Churches hold public service as reminder of their struggle
Mind you, as far as I know, these oppressed Christians hold such protest services every second Sunday, so while the JP’s interest is welcome, it’s a pity they don’t report on the shameful state of affairs on a twice-monthly basis.
That report at the top of our page was published way back, several months ago. The oppressed Christians were there again today – I was in town but saw no sign of them, only to get home at 1.30pm and see on the internet that they planned a 2pm kick-off.

The churches concerned, GKI Yasmin and HKBP Filadelfia, are denied access to their places of worship by a combination of brutal fanatic gangs and local governments which either lack the guts to stand up for religious liberty or are in cahoots with the vilest jihadist elements.
Bekasi’s Islamist Regime – ‘We Won’t Allow Religious Liberty If Bigot Thugs Object!’
That report concerns Bekasi, one such local authority, but another, Bogor, also in West Java, right next door to Jakarta, has recently shown its continuing contempt for civil and religious liberty…
Bigoted Bogor – City Seeks IslamoNazi Link-Up!
…and its mayor, once described, in all seriousness, as a ‘moderate’ Muslim, has shown himself every bit as coldly indifferent to the rights of these poor Christians as his avowedly Islamist predecessor who kicked off their oppression years ago.

As for the other church, HKBP in Tambun, our reports on what they’ve had to go through in recent years are horrific to read.

Nor was that the only occasion these peaceful Protestants faced that sort of stinking barrage from a stinking rabble!
-
Head-Scarfed Harpies Hurl Dung and Urine at Christians
- But while IslamoNazi thugs and benighted local local bigwigs are deplorable, what’s most distressing, perhaps, is the national government’s failure to enforce the law – in GKI Yasmin’s case, a ruling from the highest court in the archipelago.
- ————
- –
————-
- President SBY’s indifference to their plight was perhaps unsurprising, but I’m sure everyone who voted for Jokowi believed he was genuinely committed to the religious pluralism which was bequeathed to Indonesia by the nation’s founding fathers.
- ——————————
- –
- ooooooooooooooooooooo
- Alas, as the JP report reminds us, he has not ordered the police to take the side of justice, instead of, at best, choosing to act as an umpire between the persecuted and their persecutors – and that’s at best; in Bekasi, the cops have shown shocking attitudes…
- Cops Stop West Java Worship, Appease Islamist Louts Christians Abused by Islamist Mob, Cops Fail to Enforce the Law ‘Off With His Head!’ – Jakarta Cops – No Sweat on Murder Threat!
- …and after the recent outbreaks of Islamist evil in other parts of the archipelago –Tanjung Balai’s Burning Temples – A History of Bigotry! – a lot of people must be wondering what, if any, steps the President is planning to take to redeem Indonesia’s reputation.
- The very least he could have done today was walk across the street from his Palace and take the seat always reserved for him by these heroic congregants.

Indonesia’s Oppressed Won’t Get The Xmas They Deserve!
Will President Jokowi restore religious liberty as a Christmas present to his persecuted Protestant fellow-citizens?
I had been planning to write something on this but a local media report reminded me to stop idling during this public holiday (The Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday!) and get on with it!
================
———-
Human rights activist Todung Mulya Lubis said he was seriously disappointed with the the human rights agenda in two years of Joko Widodo/Jusuf Kalla leadership.
During these two years, the government has not managed to resolve any cases of past human rights.
“We were somewhat disappointed by the non-realization of the human rights agenda,” said Todung

Todung
—–
Todung was one of the compilers of the Jokowi-JK legal agenda when the two ran for office in the 2014 presidential election.
At that time, human rights activists had high hopes for Jokowi to resolve cases of past human rights violations.

Can’t quarrel with the man!
Despite clear-cut rulings, as far up the line as the Supreme Court, the President has failed to enforce those court decrees.
So the Christian congregants of Bogor’s GKI Yasmin and Bekasi’s HKBP Filadelfia continue to worship, in rain or baking heat, across the road from his palace in downtown Jakarta.
Praying, the persecuted people face the palace of the man who won’t enforce his own high court’s order
————
- Every second Sunday, they show up to sing and preach and pray on the street there, a standing condemnation of the government’s lack of commitment to the pluralism Jokowi likes to boast about.
- The media don’t any longer report it much. Every so often some reporter takes notice, like this, a few months ago.

…until now, our two churches are outlawed in Bogor and Bekasi, still sealed illegally by two local governments and no remedy from the central government,” said Bona Sigalingging, a spokesman for GKI Yasmin, in front of Merdeka palace in Jakarta…I must calculate when their next service is due and try to attend it. Whatever, I’ll do my best to drop by on Christmas Day.
It will, I gather, be the 120th time they’ve had to worship this way.
Hard to believe any country could do this to their own people, but if you recall the vile savagery…
Christ’s Ascension Day – Islamist Savages Pelt Congregation With Sewage, Urine and Rocks
…and rancid hypocrisy in the neighbourhoods concerned…

It is so wrong they cannot worship in their church but must stand or sit in the street like beggar. The president better to tell police to open the church and protect the Christian people.

Bigoted Bogor – City Seeks IslamoNazi Link-Up!
Bogor is a place I’ve been to a few times, to admire their famous botanical gardens.

In recent years, I’ve been in no hurry to go back, no interest in spending my mite of ‘tourist’ cash in a community whose commitment to religious liberty is so threadbare that their so-called ‘moderate’ mayor denies the very existence of the persecuted Protestant congregation of the GKI Yasmin church.

X-Rated Xmas – Foul-Mouths Bully Christians, As ‘Moderate’Mayor Denies They Exist!’
Alas, there’s little likelihood of improvement, given the news last month that the Bogor regency DPRD – the local authority – has declared it wants to synergize with the IslamoNazi FPI.
=======
ooooooooooooooo
FPI’s major contribution can be made through their scholarly contribution, the role to co-educate and strengthen the faith of the people in the area.

Scholarly FPI members
(are masks a sign of their modesty about their academic prowess?)
===========
We read in Republika.com that the Chairman of the Bogor Regency, Ade Ruhandi, visited the FPI headquarters in the village of Sukagalih, Megamendung subdistrict, Bogor Regency.
And Lucky Ade got to meet with the FPI’s ‘high priest,’ Habib Rizieq Shihab.
—————.
- Ade, I think, is on the right-hand side. Why any police office in uniform would be in a photo op with IslamoNazi ex-cons, I don’t know. Next to the cop is Rizieq, and next to him is the notorious sectarian lout Munirman -read about him here – Look Who’s Talking? FPI Lout Munarman Calls Ahok Arrogant!

- I don’t know how ‘scholarly’ Ade himself claims to be, but he certainly seems not to have read very much of news and current events in Indonesia over the past decade or more.
”For me Rizieq is a great scholar, nationwide.” Ade openly expressed his desire to reach out to clerics to jointly build Bogor regency. ” History has proved that the role of scholars is needful for this nation. This is what we expect from FPI, ” he said.
Oh, yeah? ‘Scholars needful for the nation?
Gimme a break! Here’s what a lot of ‘scholars’ here, and not just those in the FPI, are like.

The attitude of the Majapahit King of Bali to banning cow slaughter is damaging to tolerance in Indonesia, according to the Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Dr Amirsyah Tambunan. The Bali King has no appreciation of what Indonesia’s about..

Amirsyah said that free speech is a cherished thing in Indonesia. However, in the case of sacrifices, the King must respect the religious rights of Muslims. “In Islamic belief, slaughtering cows, goats and sheep is legal, whichever they can afford,” he said…“Other religions also have to respect Muslims (who believe cows are kosher )” he explained. http://www.hidayatullah.com/read/25607/25/10/2012/mui:-sikap-raja-bali-melarang-qurban-sapi-menodai-toleransi-.html

Back to Bogor –
Just when you think that his ludicrously sycophantic outburst could not produce any more belly-laughs, Ade goes on to say that Rizieq was the role model for every Muslim in Bogor.

Ade added that he fully expected the presence of Rizieq can make the region safe and orderly.

As you can see, the FPI does indeed have a gift for making people feel ‘safe and orderly.’

I expect nothing but fierce attacks on the FPI when you are paying attention to our host country, Ross, but its a shock even so to see a senior police officer (his uniform tells me he isnt an ordinary constable) hanging out with that demon duo.
I have just been having lunch with some of your local fans and theyre also horrified.LikeLike

Oh good Ross, so long time since you write much things about Indonesia. This makes me happy to read but sad for Bogor people with DPRD go crazy with bad FPI.

Intolerance in Indonesia – When Oppression’s No Longer News!
Up early today, as somebody wants to meet me for lunch in town, and traffic here means a long journey is entirely possible.
————-
———–
I had another mostly sunny Sunday in Jakarta the other day, spent at home as I had a visitor. But today, my thoughts turn to next weekend, a holiday weekend, of course.
I’ve been checking out ‘news search’ sites to see if the persecuted Christians here are holding their Good Friday or Easter Sunday services across the street from President Jokowi’s Palace in downtown Jakarta.

- When Jokowi was elected, many people, including myself, believed he’d meant what he said about religious tolerance.
But he’s not restored these people’s rights.
Java Heat – Oppressed Christians Worship In Jakarta Sun – Jokowi No Show!
They are nice people.
I’ve gone along every so often as part of my sunny Sunday walkabouts, just to show a little solidarity. They exemplify what used to be the hall-mark of this multi-faith country.
It’s not just various Christian denominations who show up, but also oppressed Muslim minorities, like the Shia .Scholars’ Escalate Java Jihad – Another Creed Outlawed? and Ahmadiyah Victim of Islamist Murder Mob Gets Six Months in the Slammer
When Ramadhan ends, I’ve seen the Christians there hoisting banners, with greetings to the Muslim majority in the archipelago.
But regular readers know all this.
I try to focus on their plight frequently, because the media here do not. Sure, if some particularly vile outburst occurs, but not frequently enough!
If I were an Indonesian editor, I’d be so consumed with shame at what’s being done in my name to these decent, innocent folk…

I’ll keep checking the news, as another Easter approaches.

I am happy when you write about Indonesia so it is good for me to read this about the church worship at Monas.
I also will go to Monas with them but I never know when they go.
We all here want you to write more of Indonesian problems please.LikeLike

It is always nice to read you.
Indonesia must let people go to church or temple or mosque as they like to.
The Yasmin people get bad treatment from goverment. I wish Jokowi helps them.LikeLike

And So It Is Xmas, And Those Churches Still Sealed!
And so it is Christmas…and what have you done?
———————-
- A good question to put to President Jokowi when dawn breaks over Jakarta on 25th December.
- The persecuted Christians of Indonesia will certainly be asking it, especially the good people of GKI Yasmin congregation and their HKBP friends from the equally oppressed church in Bekasi.
- –
- —————–
- In all honesty, the answer from the State Palace will have to be a resounding silence, for NOTHING has been done to remedy the sectarian injustice suffered by these innocent Protestants.
I won’t go through all the misery, violence and disgusting treatment visited on these folk over recent years, merely offering you a few links to take you back over what’s gone on.
Jakarta’s Oppressed – Ascension Brass Band Worship! No Sewage, Urine This Year!
X-Rated Xmas – Foul-Mouths Bully Christians, As ‘Moderate’Mayor Denies They Exist!
The last time I went into town to join them was their hundredth service there – they gather every second Sunday – and I’ll darned sure try to show up for at least one of the Christmas events reported in the Jakarta Post…
…Advent on December 20 at 1 p.m., while the Christmas service would be held on Dec. 25 at 2 p.m. All are set to take place in front of the State Palace. http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2015/12/03/gki-yasmin-prepares-interfaith-christmas-celebration.html
I think I mentioned last time that there was a seat ( they have to bring along the little plastic stools, or just stand there in broiling heat or pouring rain) reserved – but empty, of course – for the President.
Wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing if he decided to walk across the street from his stately home and put give meaning to his frequent words about Indonesia being a land of religious tolerance.
But he won’t. He’s scheduled to be far away on Christmas Day…but what’s he doing on the 20th?
Couldn’t he make their day by proving his oft-quoted commitment to pluralism?
