    Menthol Health? All Smokers Matter!

I wasn’t aware that 85% of black American smokers prefer menthol cigarettes ( please note I avoid using a capital B for black, my personal protest against the discriminatory, racist imposition by the arrogant, ignorant AP….

After changing its usage rules last month to capitalize the word “Black” when used in the context of race and culture, The Associated Press on Monday said it would not do the same for “white.” The AP said white people in general have much less shared history and culture..

.. of that capital B for blacks whilst refusing us bad, boring whites an equally capital W)

I commend those black smokers’ good taste  – menthol is pleasant to smoke – and sympathise with their imminent plight.

    .

    .

For the Biden regime is set to outlaw menthol, and I am led to understand that a similar intolerant ban still exists in the EUSSR.

    EUSSR Goes Mental Over Menthol

When Lucky Strike Menthol disappeared from shops here in Indonesia some years ago…

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep!

… I spent forever traipsing around town, trying to find them, to no avail, and my attempts to find out why repeatedly hit a stone-wall.

But I suspect some Western sticky-beak meddling may have had something to do with it.

Lucky Strike Hijau – Daft Old BAT!

Sadly, last month it felt like a gruelling action replay.

    .

    .

Nowhere were Bohem cigarettes to be found.

One helpful young fellow behind a Circle K counter told me the factory was no longer producing them.

    ooooooo

If anyone knows of a minimart holding residual supplies, anywhere in Jabotabek, please let me know.

      It’s typical big-nose government bullying.
If people want to smoke menthol, let them.
I had a friend who smoked menthol till the day he died, aged 83.

    Fag-Horror in Jakarta!

No, I’m not talking about the gaystapo ululations here, which echo ever more stridently across the pages of the Jakarta Post. It’s a habit they seem unable to break, and has afflicted them for a long time.

Grammar and ‘Gays!’ – Poor Old Jakarta Post!

     gaystapo

    —-.

But that’s not today’s big issue!

What is almost as dismaying as ‘gay rights’ wittering is the news that the price of fags is reportedly rising astronomically, as I only just read  –

… a price of Rp 50 thousand per pack…a scourge for smokers.
As the Bangka Pos reporter confirms..

some cigarette brands previously had prices ranging from Rp 10 thousand to Rp 20 thousand…

There’s even a photo to confirm these grim tidings!

By chance I went out today to replenish my supply of spuds for the next few days’ meals. I met a local guy I knew and stopped politely to chat, whereupon he informed me that he’d just returned from a downtown mall and a pack of Marlboro there was priced at Rp.50K.

There have been rumours of such a vindictive new blow to a long persecuted minority, but I never imagined the government would be so short-sighted as to put so many jobs at risk in what is a major industry here.

For me, at least, there’s a sort of happy ending.

Only this past weekend, I went out trawling for my fave brand Bohem Hijau, purely because they’ve been hard to find and I want a lot for when I go out of Indonesia next month.

My luck was in and I came home with nearly three hundred.

Now THAT has proved to be a worthwhile investment indeed.

You are about the only person online attempting to justify why this evil drug should not be taxed out of existence. If I didn’t know better, I would guess you were some kind of shill for big tobacco. Or you prefer the status quo where single cigarettes are sold outside of schools and billions of dollars are lost from the economy treating smoking-related illness and the attendant loss of productive workers to said diseases. The trend is now irreversible and countries are realizing the benefits of doing what Australia did long ago and raising prices beyond what is affordable to people who would otherwise be addicted to nicotine. And as for your pathetic attempt to once again slander the LGBTI community, how would you like people to start taking an interest in what you and other consenting adults do between your own four walls?

        Pathetic?
What’s pathetic is hiding behind a famous person’s name instead of identifying yourself so normal people in Jakarta know you are a pro-homo protagonist.

I don’t make a fuss about what ‘consenting adults’ do within (not’between’) their own four walls. It’s when they behave grossly in public and demand access to the wrong toilets, and access to defenceless children, that I object.
You don’t, because you think that’s fine.

As for addiction, I have been smoking on and off for more years than you have probably had hot dinners. When I ran my marathons, I’d stop for several months beforehand, then light up once I crossed the finish line, because I like to smoke. It’s called self-discipline.
You pretend to know me, but I honestly doubt we have ever met. I’d recall somebody so lacking in any sense of fun. If you wish to continue this debate, use your own name or get stuffed.

Go to Alfamart quickly, where the prices are still same like last month.
It is crazy to make price rise like this.
Every year we all expect thing go more expensive but maybe 5percent, not HUGE!
Very funny the way you write the story.
      Thanks to you.,

Perokok Yang Suka Bohem? Jangan Ke Sevel!

Wow, a Herculean struggle to get my act together after last night’s revelry downtown, but  now it’s time to – figuratively – stumble down the stairs to meet the day!

    =

    bear-awake joke

    =

What to write about this beautiful cloudless morning? Oh, yeah, I remember.

I used to like those 7 -Elevens, usually with some tables and chairs outside, a place you could buy a cold beer and savour it slowly in the sun.

That small pleasure is now dened us, not through any fault of the company that runs them, but due to the government’s childish prohibition of beer sales in mini-marts.

‘Creeping Shariah,’ Warns Prof. Muhammed, As Jakarta Dims!

But I still drop in from time to time, to buy cigarettes. Sometimes I shop for smokes at Alfamart, or Indomaret, or Circle K, but just as often to Sevel, as it’s known here in Jakarta.

    Not any more.

    • Every little store sells Bohem, my current fave brand, for around Rp.15,000 a pack.
    • Certainly under 16K.
    • So, previously, did Sevel.

But last Sunday, at their recently opened branch at Ratu Plaza, I was charged TWENTY THOUSAND!

    =====================

I should pause here to advise readers that I like to publish brief shoppers’ guides like this, partly because I’m public-spirited, but also because these little warnings of unreasonable pricing almost invariably provoke an abusive pinko stuck-up to make abusive comments, which, alas, don’t get published because the poor wee thing’s too shy to use his real name.

Like I say, a right wacko!

    =======================

    ==================

    • Back to Ratu….
    • Outraged, I thought maybe it was a fluke, a one-off excess, but no, because, with time on my hands before the party I was attending, I wandered off to another Sevel, near Senayan City, that posh shopping mall, and was displeased  – they too had upped the price.

Perhaps, it occurred to me, all minimarts had raised their prices since my last purchase the day before. A round of price-hikes? It happens.

So off I went again. I knew there was an Indomaret near Binus University, just across the street from Senayan City, so another brief toddle took me there.

    —–

SAM_9150 viewed from Mcdonalds, STC, the place discussed is at the right of the photo

    ——

The minimart is part of a gas station.

    • And lo and behold, there were plenty of packs of Bohem, at under Rp.16,000 – YES!

There was, moreover, a spin-off benefit to my quest, because I found that, above the shop and the petrol station, there’s a very pleasant area for smokers, an open terrace with a nice view of the posh mall opposite!

So I settled down with my cigarettes and a paperback (always take reading material if you’re using public transport in Jakarta traffic!) and whiled away the remaining time before moving on to the party.

I don’t get down that way too often, so am happy to share its location with readers who share my taste for open-air venues where prices compare most favourably with anything you’ll find in Senayan City!
