In a nutshell, the man at the head of Sweden’s crisis preparedness agency travelled to visit family in the Canary Islands over Christmas, at a time when everyone in Sweden was supposed to be avoiding travel unless absolutely necessary.

Dan Eliasson, the general director of the Swedish Contingencies Agency (MSB) has not apologised for the holiday.

“I have refrained from a great deal of trips during this pandemic but this time I felt that we wanted to celebrate Christmas together…”

I know very little about Luke Letlow, except that he was 41 years old and had just been elected to the U. S. House of Representatives as a Louisiana Republican.

And that he has just died, another victim of that vile virus.

Whether he was a conservative or a liberal, I have no idea, but no matter.

A man in his prime, undoubtedly thrilled at his electoral victory and suffused with excitement at the prospect of making a real difference, then struck down before he had even taken his seat in Congress?

How utterly tragic.
My sincere sympathies to those bereaved by his death.

Pastor Vern Temple does what other people won’t do. He helps the lowest of the low — homeless people, hungry people.

He’s up in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, so a lot of his work is with people from the nearby Indian band.

But the local mayor, a bully named Greg Dionne, just can’t stand the church. He’s always after it for something.

And he finally found a way to try and bring it down — a ludicrous $14,000 fine for singing.

I’m serious.

For singing in a church.

No-one can afford a $14,000 fine. Certainly not one of the poorest churches in Canada, one that already spends every dollar it has to feed the poor and house the homeless.

Pastor Vern and his congregants can’t afford the fine.

They can’t afford a lawyer, either.

Tinsel’s not hard to get even in minimarts but I like going into town, mingling with other people on the TransJakarta buses…
