I watched the video included in that Daily Mail link and the behaviour of the police was out of order. Those thugs in uniform were acting as Remainer paramilitaries.
No such tactics to be used on actual subversives, however.
Every working Londoner must despise the ‘command and control’ senior officers who refused to clear the streets swiftly and forcefully. A line of constables with truncheons at hand marching through the mob would have done the trick and if not, then of course water-cannon required.
However (again!) some of those constables might have declared a conscientious objection to using force against their anarchist ‘skateboarding and raving’ playmates.
Who can trust the Met Police ever again?

It would be giving those brutes who set on the Brexiteers too much credit for intellect to say they are politically motivated.
