Merkel may well have made that claim to the Frenchman, but a lot of people will find her version of her youthful thinking unconvincing.

According to the DW scribbler, Sarkozy expressed admiration and respect for German Chancellor Angela Merkel in his recently published memoir.
The two leaders enjoyed a close relationship during Sarkozy’s time in office from 2007 to 2012.
Absolutely true.
BUT the DW scribbler MUST be fully aware of the most scandalous aspect of that close relationship, for which Sarkozy ought to have expressed not so much ‘admiration and respect’ but profound gratitude…
