    Human Rights Outrage In…Edinburgh?

GREEN SHOPPER BANNED FROM USING HIS OWN PACKAGING AT TESCO

That was the headline that leapt out me this morning from The Scotsman, which used to be a fairly normal newspaper!

    A ‘green shopper?

    Treens – Wikipedia

Was this a case of racial discrimination?

Were ‘poor, desperate migrant‘ Treens,  fleeing the torture nightmare of compulsory finger-printing on arrival in some Italian port, now being subjected to further harsh oppression?

    Well, no!

In fact why this ‘story’ is even considered news is beyond me!

A green-minded shopper has been left shocked and angry after the country’s leading supermarket banned him from bringing his own packaging to carry food home in. Green shopper banned from using his own packaging at Tesco

I personally can’t see why the shopper shouldn’t be allowed to do as he pleases.

I still regret the halcyon days when fish and chip shops served us our glorious suppers wrapped in old newspapers…

=Hasil gambar untuk fish and chips in newspapers

    =

…and do NOT remember anyone I knew, or even heard of, ever suffering health problems as a result of enjoying food served in that cheap and cheerful packaging.

But having said that, it’s up to Tesco how they treat the meat they sell.

Although I am not ill-disposed to boycotts when customers are insulted by ignorant bigot shop assistants who subsequently go unpunished by management…

‘He pointed at the ham and wine in my basket and said “I can’t serve you that because I’m fasting. When I told him he should be serving customers not turning them away he still refused telling me to go to the self-service. I was furious.’

Tesco Covers for Bigot Staff After Sectarian Snub to Shopper!

….I can see no justification for that ‘green’ Edinburgh shopper to be ‘shocked and angry’ nor for him to propose that the store be boycotted.

      I remember the Treens.
They were among the first post-war illegal immigrants and there was much more effective resistance to them by the authorities in the Eagle comic than we see today!

We were near deafened by all the shrill pinko indignation about President Trump’s (and Israel’s) decision to quit UNESCO last September…

    ….

Hasil gambar untuk hate propaganda unesco palestine

    ,…….

    …because of UNESCO’s constant anti-Israel bias.

Trump Administration Is Pulling US Out of UNESCO

But now we have to face up to the shocking and short-sighted folly of Trump’s move, with the news that UNESCO has a vital role to play in the preservation of those long loaves best eaten toasted with cheese…

…and sometimes bacon – at least that’s how I like to eat them!

French president Emmanuel Macron has said baguettes should be recognised as a cultural treasure and placed on Unesco’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

    =

    Defend the Baguette!

    =

“The baguette is the envy of the whole world.”

I would have thought that if enough people like baguettes then the demand will ensure a supply, without the intrusion of supranational pen-pushers.

However, I’d never have guessed that long French loaves  – or any other food-stuffs – would require a pack of cosmopolitan bureaucrats frolicking around  UNESCO’s multi-million dollar palace in Paris…

    =

    =

….drawing handsome salaries in order to provide the ‘protected status‘ Macron is seeking.

Did YOU know that all the millions your government (unless you’re American or Israeli) hands over to UNESCO includes those protectors‘ salaries?

How many other ridiculous jobs are funded from your taxes? How many other foodstuffs are ‘protected’ by time-serving bureaucrats?

    Hasil gambar untuk pizza

Well, PIZZA, for starters! Or main course, maybe?

According to the same EuroNews report, Naples convinced the UN’s cultural body to offer pizza a protected status.

Macron wants French baguettes UNESCO listed

    OMG!

    Where’s the diversity?

What about Scots haggis? Or the good old-fashioned Ulster Fry breakfast? Or North American hot-dogs? Or, my own culinary nirvana…

    FISH AND  CHIPS?

The need for protection of that ‘food of the gods’ – really only produced properly in the UK or OZ, is vividly illustrated by my search therefor in Jakarta…

….where McGettigan’s, in posh Kuningan, does a magnificent job, but most other places fall well short, often disastrously short.

PS – Somebody will no doubt gloatingly advise me that some or all of the above are already on UNESCO’s lists.

Which will only go to prove my point!

Ross, are you having another tech problem?
I tried to comment three times but each time it came back saying no access.
I am trying again now so I hope it gets to you.
All I want to say is- if this is how UNESCO wastes money it obtains from your country and from mine, I think it is shocking.
Think of all the serious problems that money could go towards.

Yes, Vanessa, more problems. Stats only partly visible. Comments? Far fewer than usual, so clearly access problems, but now you are through, and I see another.
        Perhaps it has sorted itself!,

Fish And Chips AND A Balanced Media Diet? UKIP OK!

Further to the discussion on UKIP in our comments column, here’s something positive with which few patriotic Brits will disagree.

    =====

Ukip has pledged to scrap the BBC license fee amid fury over the Corporation’s alleged anti-Brexit “bias.”
    .
Ukip pledge to scrap licence fee to punish ‘biased’ BBC
    =

BBC Bias Wanders Down Rue de Brexit!

    =================================

Whilst nobody can quarrel with UKIP when they point to the BBC’s repeated bias in favour of the EUSSR ( from which they infamously have been getting loads of money) the party should focus too on the irresponsible way the BBC has tried to make the crimmigrant curs of the Calais Jungle seem sympathetic.

Je Suis Pravda? BBC Won’t Call Paris Savages ‘Terrorists!’

Boo-Hoo! BBC Snivels for Illegals ALMOST Corralled by Turks!

Again, BBC Fails To Warn Police of Criminality On Turkish Shore!

In fact it’s hard to think of any issue where the BBC hasn’t taken an anti-British stance, except maybe the Falklands War when it declared itself neutral in the conflict between those who picked up its bills and the Argentine aggressors killing members of the British armed forces.

Will the BBC EVER Be Pro-British?

    =

UKIP will compare the TV license to Margaret Thatcher’s poll tax as it questions why poorer households must pay the £147 annual charge.

    ===

    ===

The change will save the average family £400 a year by around 2020, Ukip figures will argue as they declare it is “time to axe the TV tax.”

    =

    But there’s more!

    ====Hasil gambar untuk ukip chips========

Fish and chips – probably my most favoured dish, and a staple for millions of British working men and women.

Makes a change to see any political party support proper food, rather than taking pork off menus to pander to pushy minorities.

    And co-0pting arrogant health-fascists!

...the state, he thinks, should “frankly, act like a parent” Jamie Oliver is a patronising bully and he can stick his sugar tax

I truthfully can see no viable alternative to UKIP as the other parties are full of Remainers (including the Tories whose leader was against Brexit, after all!) and I want to see our country fully liberated.
Those other policies too are a tonic, but I hope they will make it clear that direct democracy, on issues like capital punishment, will be a fundamental part of the manifesto.

Asia’s Next Top Model? Menurut Aku, Patricia!

Zooming out to the post office soon, and I will not be home till late tonight – yes, another party!

    ooooooooooooooo

    OldiesButGoodies-1

Hence I will miss the grand final of ‘Asia’s Next Top Model,’ which I have been sporadically observing for a month or two.

My original favourite was May from Myanmar, but she fell by the wayside. Another cutie was Julian from The Philippines, who lasted a little longer.

But the two Indonesian girls were always in the running too.

    ———————–Aldila and Patricia

    ——–

A fetching pair of fillies, indeed, both very impressive, but I have always thought that Patricia Gunawan is made of the right stuff  to take the title.

    She has flair.

    AND….

She is unusually shapely for a model.

Although these Asian girls were all much more alluring than the stick-insectesses who stroll Western cat-walks, some of them definitely needed more fish n chips wrapped up in their daily bread.

Alas, that masakan surga ( heavenly dish) which can do wonders to improve even the skinniest of frames, is found in its truly perfect form only in the British Isles and Australia!

    ————

Fish and chips – masakan surga

    ———

Anyway, I reckon Patricia ought to win.

However, some of the judges who have appeared were downright awful, even shouting obnoxiously at the lasses, and clearly view their merits from angles startlingly different from mine.

    So who knows?

    Ayo, Patricia.

Tower of Beer, Unseen in Seminyak!

I keep hearing that Bali’s Seminyak is going ‘downmarket,’ becoming more like Kuta and/or Legian, but since I’m not snobby I went there last time I stopped off in The Isle of The Gods, and happed upon this place, the Aviary Resto.

    ——————

It’s located at Jalan Kayu Aya and if you want to call ahead, the number is(0361) 732512
It’s a pleasant enough place but what made it notable, to me, was one of its menu items, viz.
Tower of Beer, six bottles, Rp.200,000 – in other words, buy five, get one free.

A similar, larger tower, more than six bottles for sure!

    —————-

The waiter politely apologised when we ordered said ‘tower,’ saying the beer was available but it had not that day been constructed into a tower. We assured him that, since it was our immediate intention to dismantle the edifice, he need not fear incurring our displeasure.

Oh, yes. Another good thing about the Aviary is – Fish n chips for Rp.45,000.

    Warung Nuka, Tuban, Bali

Firstly, don’t confuse this place with at least one other with a similar name on the Isle of the Gods.

    =

    =bali_offering

    ===============

It’s just across the road from the Hotel Harris, which is a familiar sight to all who travel from Ngurah Rai Airport towards Kuta and Legian.

Both the beer and the fish n chips are supplied by very cheerful, pretty waitresses – one of whom reminded me incredibly of a friend of mine who hails from Malang, East Java.

But since the Warung Nuka was the scene of a reunion with important people I’d not seen for some time, there wasn’t much opportunity to chat with the staff, delightful though that prospect seemed.

    00000000

    SAM_9222

    ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

A large Bintang was just Rp.45,000, and my chosen meal cost Rp.60,000. It wasn’t quite what you find in chippers British or Australian, but it was very edible. Meanwhile, my companions opted for Indonesian food, since they don’t live here, and both praised the meals they had.

The menu includes a wide variety of Western and local dishes, Friendly, speedy service and fair prices. I recommend this place.
