It’s the MUI, the self-styled ‘scholars’ of the Indonesian Ulema Council. That state-subsidised sticky-beak outfit isn’t ALWAYS on the wrong side of arguments here, but to be fair, their narrow minds more often than not end up embarrassing normal Indonesians, fellow-Muslims as well as others.

But sure enough, in response, the PT HM Sampoerna Tbk finally took down the billboard which was in various cities since 6 January.

And the company’s head of regulatory affairs, Elvira Lianita, showed serious reluctance to reveal which advertising agency it was which made these ads….

Elvira said this was for strategic business reasons, but no matter – given the way sectarian thug gangs run amok, it’s probably safer for them not to be identified.
