    Kasihan, Jakarta, Sayangku – What A Pity, Beloved City!

    Given how the words ‘hate-speech’ have been devalued in the Western world, by imbeciles like Britain’s Surrey Police, whose ‘Hate Crime Procedure…’

    ...says ‘apparent lack of motivation as the cause of an incident is not relevant as it is the perception of the victim or any other person that counts’. No clear hateful motivation? Doesn’t matter. Record it as a hate crime anyway.

    Britain’s real hate crime scandal

    …it’s interesting to note the widespread outrage over the newly installed Governor of Jakarta’s astounding outburst this week.

    Being a lazy fellow, I have decided to build my comments around what ‘The Australian’ newspaper reported, that Anies Baswedan used his first speech in office to urge “native” Jakartans to take back the Indonesian capital.

    Not at all surprisingly, this sparked concern among the city’s ethnic Chinese community…

    The word Baswedan chose, pribumi, is common here and has a very specific meaning – indigenous.

    It is always used to differentiate between Chinese ethnic people and the majority, who are mostly of Melayu   (Malay) ethnicity.

    [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[

    ====

    There has always been some anti-Chinese racism around Jakarta, which we have noted from time to time.

    Jakarta Jew-Haters Boo Chinese Christian Candidate

    We whites, who are mostly not citizens anyway, are bule, literally albino! Nobody I know gives a damn about being called a bule, We often use it to refer to ourselves!

    Admittedly I was a bit miffed when house-hunting a few years ago, to be told that one owner would under no circumstances have a bule tenant…

    =

    =

    …but, unlike the ‘discrimination’ whiners in The Old Country, my attitude was that he owned the property and if he wished to behave stupidly, he had every right to be stupid.

    If I had to hire a secretary, I’d certainly discriminate, offering the job to somebody, anybody…

    =

    =

    …who looks like the Indonesian songstress Dewi Perssik, before anyone else, no matter how secretarially qualified!

    But that’s just me.

    Anies Baswedan now runs all Jakarta!

    “In Jakarta, colonialism is right in front of our eyes, felt in everyday lives.”

    WHAT?

    “In the old days, all of us pribumi (natives) were oppressed and defeated. Now after independence, it is time for us to be the masters of our land,” he said, as people in the crowd punched the air and shouted –

    “Allah is Great.” .http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/new-jakarta-chief-stirs-ethnic-tensions-on-first-day-in-office/news-story/

    Of course they didn’t shout ‘Allah is Great.’ They wouldn’t be shouting in English. The sort who love to shout prefer Arabic! What the reporters, and everyone else, heard was ‘ALLAHU AKBAR,’ words which cause an emotional response in Western lands and now, it seems, here too.

    Anies Baswedan wins a smile from FPI ‘grand imam,’ Habib Rizieq

    =======

    If Anies had been ranting thus at a meeting of his fanatic fans in the FPI, a violent Islamist gang which he courted eagerly during his election campaign, one might expect much such hollering.

    But at his first speech as Governor?

    At least people now know what to expect, if they hadn”t already! Even that Australian reporter knows Anies’ record well enough to describe him as –

    the former moderate Muslim!’

    The report mentions that Baswedan was once Rector of Paramadina University, which I passed on my bus last month. It’s long had a good reputation as a place where REAL moderate Muslims are abundant,

    There’s a quote from a lecturer there, saying the use of the word was “inappropriate.”

    That’s not a word I like to hear in such discussions. Right or Wrong, okay, or neither, but ‘inappropriate?’   Something of a cop-out term.

    But the lecturer is correct when he added  that –

    “The atmosphere in Jakarta is very different now compared to before the election and the term ‘pribumi’ could spark tension. We cannot blame those who took offence at this speech..”

    And a former minister and human rights advocate described the speech as a “disaster” guaranteed to “open old wounds.”

    I prefer the more robust observations from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies researcher, Tobias Basuki…

    ===

    Hasil gambar untuk tobias basuki

    ===

    …who defined the new governor’s words as “alienating, especially coming from him and his track record in the election. It’s quite obvious that he’s excluding Chinese Indonesians because that’s the narrative that propelled him into office.”

    Inevitably, Baswedan – who’s no fool – is now claiming he was looking back at those wicked imperialists, the Dutch!

    ===========

    =========

    Who faced the Dutch up close? Jakartans,” he said.

    “If we look at people in the countryside, they know about the Dutch. But do they face them up close? No. The bottom line is I was talking about the Dutch colonial rule.”

    Best not to think what non-Jakarta pribumi, from Aceh to Bali, who put up spirited resistance to Holland, might want to say to that!

    But Dutch colonial rule ended nearly seventy years ago! What tense, past or present, was Baswedan using to make Islamist bigots holler ‘Allahu Akbar?

    What was that word he used?

    NOW?

    Some Chinese Indonesians may say that we bule are fortunate, because, when the current Creeping Shariah escalates into a nightmare stampede, we can leave, easily, whereas this is their country, in which they’ve lived for centuries.

    But despite the horrified responses from decent Indonesians, including many pribumi, there’s no way I can feel fortunate.

    It won’t be that long till I have been here twenty years, and I love Jakarta, never imagined how far and fast the fanatics would become major players in the political game.

    When Islamist zealotry intertwines with paeans of ethnic triumphalism, it’s hard to find reasons not to be gloomy.

    Final quote, from one of the banners on show along the governor’s convoy route to City Hall on Monday night, hailing Mr Anies’s election as a “symbol of the awakening of the indigenous Muslims…”

    Time to read something else…

    Gambar terkait

    …a bit of Western literature, perhaps, before my pleasant (and pribumi!) guest arrives!

    Jokowi To Ban Islamist Hizbut Tahrir – Why Stop There?

    While the Government ponders banning the caliphascist Hizbut Tahrir movement, because it is openly hostile to democracy, its aspiration to subjugate Indonesia to supranational sectarian rule…

    ======

    Hizbut Tahrir – ‘Charlie Hebdo, Proof  of How Rotten Democracy Is…’

    000000000000000000

    …we now read that the notorious FPI ( self-styled ‘Defenders of Islam Front’) has also asserted its belief in the restoration of the Islamic Caliphate, which, to the delight of civilised people around the world, was overthrown at the end of the First World War.

    =

    =

    Kemal Ataturk ended the Turkish Sultanate – the sultans were the ipso facto caliphs, claiming command over every Muslim in the world.

    I refer readers to the report from last month, in Jakarta, where the infamously mysogynist FPI gauleiter….

    ============

    IslamoNazi Gauleiter – “Women Already Have Limitations, Let Alone Non-Muslims!”

    …Habib Novel Chaidir Bamukmin, told the media that, although the caliphate was not the top priority, it was nevertheless something they wanted.

    http://www.netralnews.com/news/megapolitan/read/106132/tokoh.fpi.khilafah.bukan.tujuan.utama..t

     This fanatic has several fancy titles, Netralnews.com tells us, including ‘Vice Chairman of the Team of Defenders of Ulama and Activists (TPUA)’ but let’s skip that for today.

    Let’s focus on how HNCB compared the long-banned (and rightly so) Communist Party of Indonesia  – PKI – with his much admired ‘khilafah‘ sectarians.

    “What was the PKI solution? Just slaughter, coup, divide the nation.”

    Very true. Communists are totalitarian evil-doers. But he continues.

    What has the Khilafah harmed? Never did anything anarchistic, let alone rebel, let alone slaughter, ” he explained.

    Anarchistic?

    Is this Habib qualified to define ‘anarchistic?’

    Maybe he is?

    Habib Novel, one of the leaders of FPI’s Jakarta chapter, is finally facing trial at the Central Jakarta District Court for organizing and leading the violent protest. And the police are ready should another violent protest take place today.

    FPI leader Habib Novel on trial for violent protest,

    Exactly what was the verdict and/or sentence in that trial?

    Does organizing and leading a violent protest count as anarchistic?

    I leave it to readers to check out those questions.

    His remarks arose from the recent demo at the House of Representatives, called ‘Action 299,’ which illogically wanted the PKI kept banned but the HTI remain unbanned, although both are quintessentially hostile to democracy.

    And while the prospect of an Islamist global tyranny may not be a priority for him, it seems to have been for many of the other ranters that day, as the reporter tells us …interestingly, each of their speeches always ended with shouting “Khilafah! Khilafah! Khilafah!”

    Bizarrely, the fanatics at the demo were also heard to sing the song Garuda Pancasila.

    Pancasila, for overseas readers, is the state ideology of Indonesia, which is basically a set of democratic pluralist ideas. Nothing could be further from the horrid despotism that a Hizbut Tahrir regime would inflict on Indonesia.

    Again, Islamist ranters invoking Pancasila remind us of Communist ranters yelling about the rights of the downtrodden.

    =

    =

    Both dangerous cliques, both deploying deceitful slogans, sectarian fanatics mouthing off as if they cared about tolerance, marxist fanatics pretending to care about workers and peasants.

    =

    =

    Banning both is best.

    Djarot tells councillors to return cars

    Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat has told all city councillors to return their official cars before demanding their transportation allowances.

    “All the 101 official cars should be returned, then we can compensate for them with a transportation allowance. Otherwise, we’ll not disburse the allowance…”

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/10/02/djarot-tells-councillors-to-return-cars.html

    We’re not talking old jalopies here.

    Another local report describes the vehicles as ‘luxury cars…’

    The Jakarta Post explains that the ever-diligent councillors have the right to a transportation allowance, rather than a car, to assist them in carrying out their duties.

    Unfortunately, many have yet to return the Toyota Corolla Altis cars provided to them.

    Not being a car-nut, I had no idea what a Toyota Corolla Altis might be like, so I made the effort to find out. Hasil gambar untuk toyota corolla altis

    Not bad, huh?

    I guess if I possessed such a splendid vehicle, I too would be slow to give it up, but since these councillors do NOT possess the cars, only have the use of them, they have no right whatsoever to hang onto them when ordered to hand them back!

    I wonder how many Jakarta citizens who, like me, go to and fro by public transport, would prefer to see their elected ‘representatives’ do the same.

    Indeed, judging from the big ads around Jakarta…

    Likely, if forced to use buses, they’d opt for the modern and usually very clean, although often very crowded, TransJakarta vehicles…

    Indonesians Speak Out Against Islamist Fanatics!

    Further to our previous post, it’s interesting to read that ‘dozens of people calling themselves the ‘Alliance of People Who Care for Banjarnegara’ are urging that the  FPI mass organization be dissolved.

    =

    =

    They assess that the Government should not allow groups threatening the diversity and integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

    Banjanegara is a city in Central Java, which, judging from the photo, has its share of genuinely nice girls.

    The crowd carried banners that read ‘Dissolve FPI & HTI’, as they paraded around Banjarnegara city centre.

    I was only last week walking along that street, dropping by a nearby office to meet a friend.

    But I saw no signs then, among the everyday Indonesians walking to and fro, to confirm the rest of the sentence in that report, that anger grew across the mainly Muslim archipelago about violence against Rohingyas in Myanmar.

    However, that’s just my walk-about impression.

    There undoubtedly are some people in this lovely archipelago who are greatly exercised about what’s going on.

    In East Java, the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front’ aka FPI is reported to be sending volunteers to Myanmar for jihad…FPI Pasuruan region has reportedly opened registration of jihad volunteers to help Rohingya…

    FPI Akan Kirim Relawan Berjihad ke Myanmar

    Anyone interested in signing up who is between 17-20 years old, please note you need to bring a note from mummy or daddy to do so!

    Exactly how these ‘jihadists’ plan to ‘help’ is not quite clear. We sometimes hear Islamic spokesmen telling us that ‘jihad’ is not necessarily violent but rather can be interpreted as a spiritual struggle.

    However right or wrong that explanation may be, I think, given that the FPI has been photographed with a blood-thirsty banner parading their sectarian hatred around the streets of Jakarta…

    .

    =

    ….it is not unreasonable to assume that they may not be entirely committed to a peaceful approach!

    The white-shirted vigilantes are in any case notorious throughout Indonesia for their readiness to resort to violent tactics.

    ‘Kota Setan?’ Devil City In Java? Fanatics Fume Over Festival!

    Well, how many of you, dear readers, paid attention to recent comments emanating from the FPI, the self-styled ‘Islam Defender Front?’

    None of you, probably, if you live overseas!

    But here in Indonesia, ever since President Jokowi chose to share a platform with Habib Rizieq, the FPI ‘High Priest,’ one is surely ill-advised to ignore their utterances, however bizarre.

    Rizieq, on the left, Jokowi, on the right

    So Has Indonesia Come To This? Paradise Lost?

    ============

    And they don’t come much more bizarre than the latest outburst from the white-shirt vigilante gang’s Purwakarta gauleiter, Muhammad Syahid Joban.

    ———

    Hasil gambar untuk joban fpi purwakarta

    =======

    It’s not exactly the first time that Islamist fanatics have shown signs of stress over matters relating to that provincial city.

    In 2011, a pack of sectarian louts went on a rampage of vandalism against various statues of legendary figures from the widely revered Ramayana pantheon…

    ==

    ………….

    Then in 2015, they got their (presumably white) knickers in a right twist about massive resistance to their activities by decent Muslims, when Rizieq’s appearance there had to be protected by police.

    Bravo, Purwakarta! IslamoNazis Cower Behind Cops – Again!

    0000

    This time that geezer Syahid was in a tizzy, railing at the popular and entertaining local regent, Dedy Mulyadi, because of a festival in the West Java city.

    “Never participate in the Jurig Festival,’ ranted Joban.

    Why?

    =

    Well, it seems the cultural festival has been outrageously focusing on culture, not religion.

    And one of the traditional carriages in the photo was allegedly used to bring a buffalo to a ‘polytheistic’ event. Joban was in the news last year, when he tweet-scolded Jokowi for having had the carriage to the National Palace!

    =====

    Like, uh, why, we might be tempted to ask again!

    But not, perhaps, if we read the Viva.com article all the way through.

    It becomes clear that the white-shirts are still harping on their grudge against Dedy Mulyadi…

    Islamist Insanity – ‘He’s Married The Goddess of the South Seas!’

    …which we’ve noted in the past!

    The fanatics reckon Dedy nurtures hopes of becoming West Java’s Governor!

    ‘Don’t ever let that happen!’ says the Gauleiter, who wound up the rant by warning his fans not to fool around when it came time to choose regional leaders.

    “Otherwise, Purwakarta will become a ‘Devil City!'”

    We did report on Sandiago Uno’s astounding promise prior to the Jakarta election – as a  result of which he’s now Deputy Governor – that he envisioned a sharia-inspired nightlife entertainment network in Jakarta.

    But we merely noted it, in a post which covered all the issues that were alarming normal people.

    The Ugly Face of Islamist Intolerance!

    Not that Sandiago Uno himself is in any way unprepossessing. On the contrary, he comes across as very presentable and personable!

    But now this rich, American-educated ( yes, truly!) entrepreneur has shown he’s a man of his word.

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/06/28/sandiaga-uno-to-establish-sharia-tourism-zone-in-jakarta.html

    Note, no question mark! This guy is serious about his plan, for the Senen area of  the capital.

     “I think it will be interesting if there is a religious tourism zone [in the area], which is properly arranged with tents. Hence, mobility can be ensured.”

    I welcome that last sentence. Mobility – the ability to get through Senen as fast as possible – would need to be an integral part of any such scheme, as many of us encounter horrendous traffic jams there.

    ……..

    …..

    I sat on a  bus a month ago for nearly an hour, just waiting to get through the underpass beside the big shopping area.

    But what delights would await folks who flitted in and out of Sandiago’s tents?

    Many places popular with tourists who come to Jakarta feature what are invariably described as ‘sexy dancers.’

    =

    =

    Not just ‘dancers,’ NB, which has always made me smile, wondering if the proprietors fear that patrons would not recognise the dancers’ sexiness without being told of it!

    —-

    However, I somehow doubt that the tents would accommodate any spectacle of that sort.

    Sandiago previously talked of such joys as Koranic readings, but would that really draw shariah-fans to Jakarta when they can easily find THE REAL THING…

    =

    =

    …by taking a short flight up to Indonesia’s most northerly province, ACEH, proudly dubbed by some of its inhabitants as the ‘Verandah of Mecca,’ the ONLY province in the archipelago where shariah is enshrined in the local legal code of law.

    No tedious tents required there, because the quintessence of shariah morality is displayed in the main squares…

    …..

    ….

    …….

    ….young women being beaten by cowards too ashamed to show their faces, before a salivating rabble of voyeurs and fanatics.

    Nor are dancers, either sexy or otherwise, a popular phenomenon up there, where such repositories of wisdom as this kindly old gent have made plain their demerits…

      Why would anyone come to Jakarta for this? Aceh is shaming our country every day with the sharia law so no need to make sharia tourist place here in our city.

      Sandiago must make up his mind.
      Aceh shows how shariah is cruel,for all but most specially for women.
      I wish Ahok was still our governor. He made mistakes but he is not in prison for that. Only for free speech.that we no longer have and soon we women will have no freedom if shariah comes. .

      You said everything I wanted to say when I read this but you said it better than I could, all those quotes and humorous angles that make fun of the whole thing.
      A lot of Arab tourists come here but not to go to shariah shows. You must have seen them, chasing the working girls in the hotel bars.

      I never go to Senen market for many years because there is too much pickpocking there. I do not want to loose my money or bag.
      Now I think even more it is good idea not to go shopping there with too many FPI who think woman is less than man.
      Better I will go to the Atrium mall near it but better still to nice place like you like at Citralan , It is safer there.
      I think only fanatic same like FPI will use the place Sandiago is making so it is no good plan.

      I wont be going to Senen but I never do anyway. Cnce was enough, hot and crowded and prices that rose soon as they saw I was foreign.
      Shariah tourism is a joke, who would come here for that ? If they like watching women getting hurt for holding hands with their boyfriends they can go to Aceh as you say or some other terrible place, Iran or Saudi Arabia
      More reasons to be cheerless but thats what Shariah is all about.

      This is all true and these FPI and the other fanatics are taking over. We lowly people have no way to stop them so we believed Jokowi will do it.
      But sad to say it, we are mistaken.

    If You’re Out On The Town In Jakarta Tonight, Beware!

    Just saw the news on Trans TV, the white-shirt FPI thug-gang went ahead and staged a ‘takbir’ tonight, starting about now, despite an appeal from Jakarta City Police not to hold takbir around Jakarta.

    The FPI  – the Defenders of Islam Front – are notorious cowardly bullies. Just put the letters into our search box over there to the right.

    =

    FPI – sectarian hate-gang on the march in Jakarta

    =

    Takbir is a kind of parade/motorcade marking the end of the fasting month. They obviously cause traffic congestion and general inconvenience and have in previous years degenerated into brawling.

    Peace? Ramadan Convoys “Often Taunt and Fight Each Other!”

    ===

     “We will still carry out our takbir tour in various areas including Jakarta, because the takbir tour is local wisdom and part of syiar Islam…”

    So said Slamet Maarif, Jakarta FPI Gauleiter, resplendent in his local wisdom.

    In other words, shariah trumps all.

    Indonesia ‘Scholars’ Council

    ==

    Much the same arrogance we heard from the MUI, the state-sponsored Islamic self-styled ‘scholars,’ a few years ago.

    An official with the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI) has criticized the Jakarta Police’s call to curb the amount of Idul Fitri prayer convoys in the capital, alleging it as an attempt to “defy” and “belittle” Islam.

    ————–

    • tengku zulkarnain-mui- Tengku
    • ———-
    • MUI deputy secretary-general Tengku Zulkarnain…criticized the police’s suggestion to limit takbir-chanting — often called takbiran in Indonesian — within the confinement of mosques.
    • ==

    Which of course was hogwash when he said it, as it is today.

    The great majority of police here are Muslim, as one would expect in a 90% Muslim country, and some at senior levels have even shown themselves well-disposed to the fanatic FPI!

    =

    Indonesia’s Top Cop Calls IslamoNazi Gang ‘Very Tolerant!’

    Of course the police are not out to ‘belittle Islam.’

    They presumably want to keep the streets safe and orderly.

    But Tengku has in the not-so-distant past shown signs of a persecution complex. ‘…the Koran has already instructed Muslims about the deceitfulness of the enemies of Islam.’

    Top ‘Scholar’ – “Amazing Muslim Advance in West Scares Islam’s Enemies!”

    Last word to Slamet.

    =

    “If there are limited personnel for security purposes, they can work with Islamic organizations in Jakarta, instead of reversing silly policies that are not popular,” said Slamet.   http://www.cnnindonesia.com/nasional/20170624154819-20-223954/fpi-gelar-takbir-keliling-meski-dilarang-polisi/

    In other words, hand over policing of Islamist parades to people like Slamet’s own Islamist louts.

    Won’t that be a wonderful day?

    Pray to whichever God you worship that it may never dawn in Indonesia.

      After those horrible children were filmed chanting for Ahok to be burned I said it was not the Indonesia I knew. What are the Jakarta Police doing right now?
      Watching over the FPI tabrik?

    Islamist Bullies – Who’s The Yellow-Bellied Brute In The Yellow Shirt?

    It’s a horror film, starring cackling cowardly jackasses, a whole pack of them, bullying a slightly built teenager, the chief inquisitor’s nasty whining voice going on and on, an utterly sickening display, until the skinny little lad is coerced into making a formal apology.

    ==

    What for?

    =

    Rizieq,on the left, sharing a platform with President Jokowi earlier this year.

    =

    Because he made some social media comment about the IslamoNazi ‘high priest’ Habib Rizieq, which the louts in the crowded room didn’t like

    You won’t be able to follow the words spoken so rather than go through all the toils of translation, I offer several links, some in Indonesian but one, the first one, in English, which does an excellent job of telling the full story.

    FPI Dampingi 2 Terduga Pelaku Persekusi yang Ditangkap Polisi

    Persekusi Remaja di Cipinang yang Viral Bentuk Opini Hancurkan FPI

    The ‘men’ in the crowded room are all Rizieq fans, who disgrace this lovely country I’ve enjoyed living in for so many years, and it’s fair to say they disgrace their religion too.

    But of them all, I’d say the most contemptible coward is the lout in the yellow shirt…

    Yellow!

    ===

    ….who twice approaches the rabble’s victim and strikes the clearly frightened boy, from behind, of course. That yellow-belly should be named and shamed and put away for years.

    This took place not in some criminal den but in the house of the elected neighbourhood leader, apparently in Cipinang, East Jakarta. It is said that the intimidation of the innocent lad started after his teacher took exception to his observations on Rizieq.

    The boy and his family have had to move house for their own safety.  Decent Muslims, from the GP Ansor organisation,who share my dismay and disgust, have stepped in to offer protection.

    I watched this last night just before I went to bed. I wish I hadn’t, because it took me quite a while to get to sleep, due to anger and the sadness at the scenes on the video.

    What’s almost worse is the assertion by IslamoNazis that they are determined to pursue their vendetta against anyone at all who insults ‘ulema’ (‘scholars’)  –

    Islam Defenders Front (FPI) spokesperson Slamet Maarif has said offering apologies is not enough for people who have insulted the group’s leader, Rizieq Shihab….

    Apology not enough: FPI – National – The Jakarta Post

    Decent people are mobilising to resist these despicable tactics.

    One racist moron in the video preposterously warned the boy – “You’d better tell your friends of your [Chinese] ethnicity not to do it anymore, so this will not happen again,” said one FPI member.

    “You have to know that Habib Rizieq belongs not only to the FPI but also to all Muslims.

    Happily, the latest news confirms that ‘all Muslims’ do not accept this outrageous behavior, or tolerate the nonsense that normal people of any ethnicity or age or creed may not insult Rizieq or any ‘scholar.’

    PS – Police have since arrested two ‘men’ allegedly involved. Now how about the rest of them, and the neighbourhood leader, and that ‘teacher?’

    Jakarta Post’s True Colours – ‘Hands off Islamists!’

    Most of us understand the clear difference between Muslims and Islamists.

    One of the former had a modest meal in my home last night. Another will likely drop by for a pleasant visit over the weekend. The folks I met up with in town yesterday were Muslims.

    They are fasting, most of them, this Ramadhan. They don’t eat pork. Most of them don’t share my enthusiasm for beer.

    =

    =

    They are normal people who follow their religious customs and respect the fact that a lot of people have either different religious practices or no religious affiliation at all.

    Islamists are something else entirely.

    They are bigoted fanatics who are essentially intolerant and believe that their ways should dictate our ways. They hold power in Indonesia’s Aceh Province, where women of ANY creed are coerced into head-shrouding under the oppressive shariah code.

    Islamist rule in Aceh is an endless nightmare…

    The most notable Islamist spokesmen here in Jakarta are the self-styled ‘scholars’ of the MUI, and the thug gangs like the FPI…

    ………

    ………

    …whose ‘high priest’ – currently keenly sought by the police – told us that Governor Ahok deserved death for the ridiculous ‘offence’ of ‘blasphemy,’ which in Ahok’s case merely comprised quoting a Koranic verse and questioning its meaning.

    Slouching Towards Shariah, Indonesia Jails Ahok

    • …..

    That’s who Islamists are, and what they do.

    BUT…says the anonymous editorial  in the Jakarta Post…

    …celebrations beyond this “Pancasila Week” must avoid worsening the mistake of suppressing Islamists.

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/academia/2017/05/31/editorial-a-pancasila-holiday.html

     Okay, we know that the Jakarta Post’s parent company, Gramedia, has a shameful record of collaboration with the Islamists, to the extent of overseeing a Hitlerian book-burning bonanza in support of the MUI’s vendetta against freedom of thought and expression.

    Jakarta Post – A Nelson’s Eye View Of ‘Pluralism!’

    But so far, while editorial cowardice has prevented any condemnation of that Nazi-style arson, they have never openly endorsed it either.

    Does this latest outbreak of Islamist empathy now signal that the JP is going belatedly to its support for Gramedia’s grisly intolerance?

    A question all the more important as we celebrate this, Pancasila Day!

      Good one again Ross and I hope that newspaper will make it clear too.
      Did you read that terrible woman Julia Suryathing writing in the Jakarta Post about she thinks it was real progress to allow men to have four wives but nothing at all about how women dont get to have four husbands or three or two, only allowed one and that is her idea of progressive..

      She also totally dodged saying if child marriage is right or wrong, She just mentioned it the once and made no judgment.call. I think the old girl must be scared she will upset the fanatics.
