Top Jakarta Cops Broken Hearted? Maybe NOT?

    Here’s a jolly Jakarta tale!

Imagine if an imprisoned fanatic issued a call from behind bars, telling all his fans never to invite you to any get-togethers they might decide to organise.

    .

    .

Would you cry yourself to sleep at night because you’re facing ostracism by all sorts of sectarian extemists?

    Possibly not?

    Me neither!

However, I can’t speak for the targets of the wrath of Rizieq The Fanatic…

    0000000000000000000000

For more background on Rizieq, just put his name in the ‘Search’ box, but be prepared for plenty of entries!

    • FPI ‘grand imam, Habib Rizieq, who condemned Jakarta’s then-Governor Ahok for unacceptably quoting some Koranic verse –.
    • We encourage the government to process the death penalty for Ahok as soon as possible,” said Rizieq
    •  http://www.suara.com/news/2016/10/14/134313/
    • ……

…a famously gentle soul, who has sent out a call to – all habaib, ulema, kyai, da’i, Islamic leaders and people…

‘Don’t invite Fadil Imran and Dudung to any event. If there is an event attended by Fadil and Dudung, then just disperse…!!’

    ‘Leave…!!’

    .

Rizieq is in a tizzy because he claims those senior policemen were ‘involved’ in the demise of six members of his white-shirt vigilante gang…

    ….the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front, ‘ the FPI…

…an outfit known  – before they were banned – for their peaceful, responsible approach…

FPI in West Java – ‘Let’s Burn Out the Orphans!’

    ..to all kinds of concerns!

Rizieq’s got numerous fans, who will undoubtedly comply with his touching appeal.

    There’s Sobri Lubis…

    Just watch the video-

    – which shows him issuing his call for his devout audience to ‘Bunuh, Bunuh, Bunuh (KILL KILL KILL!) Ahmadis, a peaceful, utterly inoffensive religious minority

    …..and there’s Novel Bakmunin…

Novel has featured here before, for enlightened statements which bring much credit to his cause.

    http://megapolitan.kompas.com/read/2013/10/26/1937287/.FPIMenolak.Lurah.Susan.Harga.M

    ………and of course there’s Rizieq’s charming son-in-law…

    .

    Habib Muhammad Hanif Al-Athos

    ….

Never mind, I don’t care. The virtual world says the young person was a  terrorist, I don’t care what they say, Brother….we are Muslims, the young person is a hero, Brother. Allahu akbar, that’s right,” shouted Habib Hanif.

    .

Well, as said already, I can’t speak for the top cops concerned, but for my part, it would be utterly devastating…

    .

…were I to be black-listed socially by distinguished paragons of enlightenment such as the gentlemen named above.

Although the outrageous episode ocurred a week ago, It is so characteristic of the mentality of the bigot minority here in Indonesia…

    .

…that I feel obliged to let overseas readers read for themselves what happened at Pamekasan, East Java, on 1st December.

Such vile and cowardly behaviour is far from unique to this country.

Demos in town squares, if peaceful, are all very well, in normal ( non-viral!) times, but to beseige somebody’s home is an affront to civilised values, east or west or anywhere.

    .

The victim was not actually alone – but her only companion was a house-maid, not much help in the face of a mob of gutless swine!

The besiegers were fans of Rizieq the Fanatic…

    Syaiful is Mahfud’s nephew.

Prior to their onslaught, the crowd was known to have held a demonstration at the Pamekasan Police Station. At that time, the crowd urged the police not to arrest Rizieq.

Then, on their way home, the crowd came to Mahfud MD’s parents home..

    .

Vile fanatics lay siege, as a nonagenerian quails indoors

Inside the house was the mother of the Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, 90 years old, feeling threatened by the suspect’s screams of “Kill … Kill,” said East Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Nico Afinta at the East Java Regional Police Headquarters…

Nikita Goads Again! The Irrepressible Ms. Mirzani!

One of my commenters wondered if a surprise candidate might yet emerge as the next presidential election looms…

    .

    .

…I note again the delectable Nikita Mirzani’s astounding capacity for getting her name in the headlines here in Indonesia!

This time, she uploaded a video.

The video depicts some children. First, a child opens a video on his cellphone while in a car. Clearly, the video shows Habib Rizieq Shihab giving a lecture.

Meanwhile, in the next scene a child is watching television.

Also on television, the child saw Habib Rizieq lecturing. But the content of the lecture highlighted in the video shows quite harsh sentences.

There were several sentences that were cut from when Habib Rizieq observed  the birthday of the Prophet in Petamburan. Meanwhile, another lecture is seen, taken from an old video.

At the end of the video, the children’s parents then turned off the broadcast…they immediately hugged their children.

Not only that, at the end of the video there is also a message that is expressed…

    Quite short and spicy.

    Save Children From Moral Pollution!”

That conclusion is clearly a jibe by Nikita at what Rizieq is presenting as his clarion call, a shrill demand for –

    ‘Moral Revolution!‘

After our report on the return of Rizieq…

    • ……

….we will have to be careful about which fanatic we’re referring to, because there are quite a few of them in Indonesia!

At the airport to meet the ‘Grand Imam,’ a number of these fanatics were assembled, and it’s worth mentioning their names, as they may not be familiar to our newer readers.

    Munarman, for one, deserves mention…

….he who infamously called for people to “hunt down ‘liberals’ in their neighborhoods, to beat on their doors and expel them.”Jakarta Globe 15/3/12

    • ——
    •
    • …invited onto TVOne to discuss FPI’s hoodlum behaviour, Munarman lost the argument and then totally lost his infantile temper, hurling a glassful of water over the mild-mannered academic who’d bested him.
    • ……

    ….as does Sobri Lubis…

    Remember him?

…or more precisely, his infamous rant?

     Just watch the video-

His bloodthirsty message was conveyed at the PA 212 and friends’ demonstration which criticized French President Emmanuel Macron at the French Embassy, Central Jakarta…

And who the Hell is Habib Hanif, you ask in horror, wondering what sort of man could bring himself to talk in such a barbaric manner?

He’s the son-in-law of Rizieq, that ‘grand imam’ who in fact has been talking in similarly barbaric terms.

Rizieq, unlike his son-in-law, has often featured in our blog, and you can look for him via that little ‘Search’ box over to the right.

He has spent time in prison here in Indonesia…

Rizieq’s son-in-law – he who hails a vile savage as a ‘hero’ – is prominent in a number of organisations, not least that sectarian band who gave themselves the grand title of ‘alumni’ – the PA 212 Alumni – whom we have mentioned more than once…

…so he is far from insignificant.

While Indonesians who abhor sectarian fanaticism presumably see nothing wrong with the removal of those unsightly banners and posters displaying FPI boss Rizieq’s all too familiar features…

…I suppose it’s almost inevitable that the leftist Jakarta Post would find some liberal ‘intellectual ‘ to whine about the clean-up.

    Disclosure – please note…

Trumpophobic Jakarta Post? Time To Pull The Plug!

Jakarta Post Against Book-Burning – If The Books Are Leftist

…I have no time for the Jakarta Post!

    Read on…

There may be some citizens with no strong views about ‘the Jakarta Military Command’s decision to take down banners depicting firebrand cleric and Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab….’

….but I would hazard a guess and say the population of the Big Durian is divided, into the fanatic’s fans, who are numerous enough….

    .

    ..

…and who, as often, are most unhappy, and the rest, who welcome what the security forces have done.

The banners were reportedly erected without permission, after all. And the general who had his troops help out says that when they’re taken down, the FPI put them back up.

Hence the need for extra effort.

    .

‘ With the People, the TNI is Strong!’

    .

As one parliamentarian Bobby Adhityo Rizaldi says –

‘…so far TNI soldiers have been involved in the success of various activities. Starting from handling Covid-19, natural disasters, and others. Thus, it is not unusual for the TNI to participate in cleaning up Rizieq Syihab’s attributes in the public space…’

And in the same newspaper, it’s not just in the capital – similar joint action has been taken in Bekasi, next door to Jakarta, in West Java.

    https://www.beritasatu.com/whisnu-bagus-prasetyo/megapolitan/701397/petugas-gabungan-di-bekasi-turunkan-baliho-rizieq

But in the JP last week, we read that the removal has ‘raised questions’  on the TNI’s involvement.

    Among whom?

    Nobody I know.

But there’s a ‘researcher’ with the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies, Khairul Fahmi by name, who’s all worked up!

He claims ‘the military should avoid actions that may be considered aggressive!’

    Aggressive?

Were they grabbing members of the sectarian gangs? Roughing them up…

    .

…the way the FPI rough up people who upset them?

No, the example which Fahmi offers is ‘taking down the FPI banners.’

“The military should not be as aggressive as it was this past week….[taking down banners] intimidates residents and implies that the country will break apart and be in chaos because of the provocative actions of the few.”

    Intimidates?

    Seriously?

I have lived here more than 20 years and Fahmi, as an Indonesian, probably longer. He’s educated and not stupid, so he knows the FPI’s record of intimidatory behaviour.

    the few…?

    .

Decent airport-bound travellers, forced to go on foot, carrying their bags

Alarming – For All Of Us Who Love Indonesia!

Was it not a mob of 10,000 fanatics that caused chaos on the airport road, creating havoc and misery for decent travellers?

However, Fahmi’s not alone in his vexation.

Democracy activist group Imparsial deputy director Gufron Mabruri voiced a similar sentiment, questioning the urgency of the TNI’s involvement in removing FPI banners at several locations across Jakarta.

I have noticed Imparsial before, over the years, and sometimes they are on the side of sense…Top Cop Pradopo, Friend of Fanatics, Under Pressure from All Sides …but sometimes….UK’s Jakarta Rep Frantic to Save Terrorist Skins -A Neo-Colonialist Par Excellence! ….not so much!

I try to be fair, but this time?

    Sorry, Pak Gufron!

These ‘NGO’ guys are in a tizzy about the military backing up police and militia. I get that. It should not, in normal circumstances, be necessary,

But when President Jokowi is facing defiant, lawless mobs like that which caused chaos at the international airport, or that which delighted in prayers for his and ex-President Megawati’s death during their ululations…

    Jakarta Fanatic’s “Death-Prayers” Condemned!

..it’s simply wearisome to read niggling, nagging criticism of men ( and women) in their country’s uniform showing whose side ( the good guys!) they are on.  https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2020/11/21/removal-of-rizieq-banners-by-tni-sparks-questions-over-military-role-in-civilian-realm.html.

    There are rules about posters.

After elections here in Indonesia, posters must be taken down by those who put them up.

Yet nobody has been taking the fanatic stuff down.

This may be due to the FPI’s reputation for vicious violence against people who incur their displeasure….

In the picture there is one whose clothes are not TNI,” said Achmad Riad at the Headquarters of Wing I Paskhas, Halim, East Jakarta.

Achmad Riad also explained that it was not only the TNI…  Police and Satpol PP, he continued, also participated in this activity. “What is clear is that it is carried out jointly. There is a Satpol PP, there is a police officer, yes, the TNI is below, helping..

Never, EVER, Needlessly Antagonise Smart Sexy Nikita!

If you have been following the saga of Nikita Marzini, Indonesia’s sexiest star ( and that’s saying something, because Indonesia has MANY outstandingly appealing ladies!) you will have noted the foul abuse directed at her by sectarian fanatics.

Bravo Nikita! Sexy Star Faces Fanatic Mob Threat!

Nifty Nikita, Foe Of Fanatics – And Has Good English,

Up to readers to decide, but so far, I’d say, she’s winning the war of words that has raged since she upset Mr. Rizieq….

    .

    ..

…the ‘high priest’ of the FPI, the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front.’

He is often referred to as Habib Rizieq, and for those who don’t know, Habib is a name reserved for those descended from Prophet Mohammed!

It’s no doubt the case that his admittedly large following arises not only from his lineage but from his distinguished good looks and sharp, impressive intellect, but certainly the title he uses is important….

    .

…to his many fans, who are noted for their dedication to tolerance,

But Nikita’s latest revelation is downright devastating…

….though in the spirit of fair play, I’ll be more than willing to publish any denials that come from Rizieq.

It’s all in this linked story, which you may use Google Translate to see in its entirety, but basically, Nikita claims that when she used to live in Jakarta’s Petamburan neighbourhood, she would often pass Rizieq’s home.

    I quote.

In the 90s Mohammad Rizieq Shihab was only a seller of Arabic perfume and peci,” read the information, as in Nikita Mirzani’s Instagram upload Tuesday (11/17/2020).

He lived in his parents’ house on Jalan Petamburan III and every day I always passed in front of his parents’ house, because I lived on Jalan Petamburan IV, Central Jakarta. MRS was nothing, he was just a child of Arab descent who lived around Petamburan quite a lot…

“….17 August 1998 a few months after Suharto stepped down (21 Mel 1998) he founded the FPI mass organization.”

There’s more, but you can access the rest all by yourselves.

      She is very pretty!
Also brave, as you say, and if enough Indonesians show the same courage, that Rizieq will be seen off soon enough.
Good luck as you continue to enjoy your life there.

I think Nikita Mirzani has life style not very liked by many people here but she is more than usual in the way she speaks up.
More people in the general society must also say no to fanatics.

Bravo Nikita! Sexy Star Faces Fanatic Mob Threat!

It must be darn near eight years since I first applauded the beautiful actress Nikita Mirzani…

    Nikita-Mirzani-tato-338x450

Yes, THAT Nikita Mirzani, and there’s my fave photo of the ‘controversial’ movie star, the one I used when first she stood up to the intolerants in Indonesia.

    000

    000

…and now she’s back in the news for much the same thing, incurring the wrath of fanatics.

South Jakarta Police have ordered extra patrols near her home, for fear of mob attack by sectarian louts!

The case began when Nikita Mirzani commented on the return of Habib Rizieq, the ‘grand imam’ of the Islam Defenders Front, the FPI…

    https://news.detik.com/berita/d-5254479/polisi-bersiaga-imbas-ancaman-rumah-nikita-mirzani-digeruduk-massa

Her comment was dismissive of the extremist leader…

    • FPI ‘grand imam Habib Rizieq who suggested the Christian Governor Ahok be slain for unacceptably quoting some Koranic verse –.We encourage the government to process the death penalty for Ahok as soon as possible,” said Rizieq
    •  http://www.suara.com/news/2016/10/14/134313

    …..

The Fanatic Returns! Indonesian “Scholar” Offers Warm Welcome!

..and she referred to him as a tukang obat.

Tukang is a common word here.

I buy my vegetables from a tukang sayur. A carpenter is a tukang kayu, a gardener is a tukang kebon – so it is not at all derogatory.

Hence when used with obat, medicine, it depends on who gets called what, I suppose. I’ve been called much worse names than tukang obat, ‘medicine man,‘ as Google Translate renders it.

I postponed publishing this till my ever-welcome Indonesian visitor came by today, so that I might seek further clarification.

Now I’m advised tukang obat can also mean what Americans 100 years ago used to call a snake-oil salesman.

Okay, hardly flattering, but there are many harsher names to call people.

    Like ‘banci!’

As in Rizieq’s insult to then President SBY, quoted in Tribunnews.com 30.7.2011, when the FPI were raging against religious liberty, driven by their hatred of the peaceful Ahmadi minority.

“If SBY won’t dissolve Ahmadiyah, SBY is a banci!” bhttp://jakarta.tribunnews.com/2011/07/30/habib-rizieq-banci-kalau-sby-tidak-bubarkan-ahmadiyah

    And what are bancis?

The transvestite freaks that prowl the canal bank downtown at night, offering entertainment and more to interested passers-by.

Very unflattering, to be likened to those!

    ……

However, it seems that Rizieq is most upset at Nikita’s mild epithet. His lawyer has threatened to report Nikita to the police!

Such sensitive souls, some of these deeply religious persons.

    ..

    Update.

Some of you will remember FPI notable Novel Bakmunin, famed for his tolerance.…

    ..

Novel has featured here before, for enlightened statements which bring such credit to his cause.

“…women already have limitations, let alone non- Muslims!”

    http://megapolitan.kompas.com/read/2013/10/26/1937287/.FPIMenolak.Lurah.Susan.Harga.Mati

….and here’s what he had to say, a day or so ago.

If she doesn’t apologise, I take no responsibility for mayhem on the part of Muslims who are Habib devotees.’

    https://metro.tempo.co/read/1405066/nikita-mirzani-sebut-habib-tukang-obat-pa-212-agar-tobat-dan-minta-maaf/full?view=ok

    Really?

One might hope any responsible citizen, especially those in public life, would seize the opportunity to call on everyone to behave like grown-ups, not tantrum brats.

For her part, Nikita declared she is unafraid and had supporters herself whom she could count on.

    .

    ooooooooooooooooo

I’ll bet she has LOTS of supporters!

Tempo further reports that it wasn’t long before a Rizieq fan named Maaher warned that he could raise a mob of 800 to lay siege to Nikita’s home, were no apology forthcoming within 24 hours.

    Hmm…

I can certainly understand if Muslims are upset by insults to their Prophet.

But us mere humans, once past adolescence, normally learn to handle harsh comments on ourselves without resort to gangster tactics.

    .

If you’re a public figure, as Rizieq is, one gets called names. Most can take that in their stride.

But he isn’t fond of criticism, and the FPI is notorious not only for bloodthirsty threats…

    .

    …but also for violence…

    ….

…though it’s fair to say that, when they don’t outnumber their targets…

    fpi skulk in mosque

IslamoNazis V Freedom-Fighters? – Some Chicken, Some Neck

…the extent of their true valour is interesting to examine.

And it isn’t, of course, just the FPI – there are plenty of malevolent street rabble here, as in many another country, such as the marxist BLM scum in the USA…

    Foul-Mouths Menace 77-Year-Old, Screaming ‘F His Wife!’

….to whom besieging and terrorising those they perceive as vulnerable, might seem a beguiling way to pass their mindless time.

One hopes that, if they show up to menace Nikita, the police will show no hesitation about teaching them a lesson in manners.

      Just what the doctor ordered!
Or should we say the tukang obat!
This is vintage Ross blogging and after showing it to interested people, everybody agrees.
      We need more of it.
The stories in local media are worrying.

I thought when you said you would get onto the blog about Nikita soon we would wait a week, but this is very good work that you have done and very fast, too.
If this continues, I don’t mean Nikita, I mean the Rizieq phenomenon, you and I could l be the only foreigners left here.

Alarming – For All Of Us Who Love Indonesia!

As anyone who knows me surely knows….

I also believe that millions of good Indonesians, of all religions, who share my distaste for the kind of fanaticism we wrote about just a day or so ago…..

The Fanatic Returns! Indonesian “Scholar” Offers Warm Welcome!

….will also have been as aghast as I was, to learn that a serving soldier in the TNI, Indonesia’s Armed Forces…

    .

‘ With the People, the TNI is Strong!’

    .

…felt emboldened –  whilst on duty! – to record himself blatting out a sycophantic tribute to that fanatic leader whose arrival at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International airport…

    .

Decent airport-bound travellers, forced to go on foot, carrying their bags

    .

…caused misery to so many honest citizens trying to catch their flights.

Here’s what the extremist’s admirer had to say.

On the way to the airport, preparing for the security of Grand Imam Habib Rizieq Shihab.

“We are with you, Grand Imam Habib Rizieq Shihab. Takbir. Allahu Akbar.”

    https://www.kompas.tv/article/122608 / viral-members-tni-shout-we-with-you-habib-rizieq-shihab-kodam-jaya-will-be sanctioned

Both links, above and below, ought to afford you access to the video.

Otherwise, just put two words, ‘rizieq TNI’ into Google Search (Videos)

The bad news is that such a person should have managed to join and remain in the armed services, which are duty bound to uphold Indonesia’s pluralist Pancasila democratic republic.

    .

Pancasila – symbolising unity in diversity

    .

The good news is that the culprit was quickly identified and is to be ‘sanctioned.

Kapendam Jaya Colonel Inf Refki Efriandana Edwar said the member in the video was Kopda Asyari Tri Yudha, a member of Company A Yonzikon 11 Kodam Jaya.

    https://m.cnnindonesia.com/nasional/20201111093640-20-568386/anggota-tni-disanksi-usai-teriak-kami-bersamamu-habib-rizieq

The colonel has not, however, given details of the sanctions this exalter of sectarian fanaticism may suffer.

Clarification will presumably, in due course, be published.

One might hope there will also be an investigation into how widespread such unwholesome allegiances are, in all branches of the TNI.

One hopes there are few such rotten apples in the barrel!

If that FPI supporter is not removed from the army, you expats still resident in Jakarta should think seriously about removing yourselves to some other country.
I know you love Indonesia, Ross, but the country has been changing for years, since SBY called for that worldwide ‘blasphemy ban’ and the persecution of the Ahmadiyah got going.
But you know all that already.
      You won’t leave, will you?
