I doubt Labor in Oz have undegone any true change of heart on bludger boats, although to be fair, their former Foreign Minister did speak up, warning his party a while ago.

• “If you want to embrace the Greens-Left-Fairfax–ABC position, you are going to go backwards at the next election,” he said, according to Labor sources quoted by The West Australian.

The pro-bludger element is rampant these days, embarrassing more prudent pollies.

However, politicians anywhere usually want to win elections, and Labor bosses are astute enough to grasp the obvious truth that Australians strongly, and by a large majority, approve all steps taken to safeguard their country from crimmigrant incursions.

…Labor’s immigration spokesman, Richard Marles, admitted that the policy had reduced the number of boat arrivals. “It has had an impact…” Marles also admitted Labor “might” keep the controversial policy, but only if it had the support of the Indonesian government.

Seriously? Are Labor really demanding that Jakarta be given veto-power over Canberra defence policies?

We’ll see.

But if Mr. Marles takes his party towards common-sense and against the illegal influx, would that leave the unspeakable Sarah Hanson-Young as the solitary champion of undesirable aliens?

Good news indeed from Oz, though ridiculous that a simple step needed to help deter the bludger-boats should have been obstructed for so long by the pro-crimmigrant lobby, using the courts to defy democracy.
