Making Jakarta Even Duller – Here We Go Again!

Jakarta is a resilient city, or at least its people are.

I was out among them again yesterday, a vital shopping trip (as all such shopping trips are meant to be these days!) on the TransJakarta Busway, changing at Harmoni…

A fave old photo of Jakarta’s Harmoni junction, decades ago!

…then all the way to Mangga Besar.

I suppose it’s the same buzz we all get, as good as it gets in this hideous ‘New Abnormal,’ a morale-boost just from being among other human beings, albeit you can’t shake a guy’s hand or hug a girl.

    But then I came home…

…my bag full of necessities, including a supply of my hard-to-get favourite cigarette brand, and tuned into the news.

    And there we go again!

This weekend is Idul Adha, when Muslims slaughter loads of animals, mostly goats …

and not a few cows too!

…and since it’s perfectly legal to do so, I have no intention of offering adverse comment thereon.

Certainly not of interfering in their activities!

But WHY must the City Government of Jakarta interfere with mine, or other non-participants?

The Jakarta Post link below provides a long list of shut-down fun…

…..entertainment establishments, such as saunas, nightclubs, massage parlors, discotheques, spas, karaoke bars, pubs, pool halls and other tourist attractions…

…which must be closed one day prior to and on the day of Idul Adha.

The Jakarta Tourism Agency spokesman, a Mr. Cucu (pronounced choo-choo, not cuckoo) is quoted as saying that discos in fancy hotels (four-starred [or above) are ‘exempt from this policy…’

…..which prompts my perennial question why the richer folk are allowed to enjoy themselves, but the poorer folk aren’t.

But really, it’s the sheer irrationality of such sectarian banning that needs to be examined.

Why should those of us who are not into killing animals not be free to dance or play pool.

Not that much of that harmless fun is available anyway at the moment in Jakarta, thanks to the Chinese Virus!

    But EVERYBODY knows that dancing…

…other such harmless pastimes do not disturb those outside the dance-hall or pool-hall – unless they desperately want to be disturbed.

I don’t expect an answer. I have been asking for yesrs and never had one.

    Except high-handed retorts about ‘respect.’

Obedience to coercive rules does not equate to respect.

In fact, coercion has a tendency to diminish respect.

The agency will enforce strict punishments on business owners caught violating the regulations during the Idul Adha celebrations, he added.

It is very sad that the killjoy cannot be happy without taking other peoples happiness away.
It is childish and intolerant and I wish they may grow up someday.

My friend just now tells me you write again about this Jakarta killjoy problem.
      Good you say this again.
No reason why they must stop you or me to have fun and it is very bad they do diskriminasi to let rich hotel guest have fun but other people not.
Jakarta government gets it all wrong.

All part of a cunning strategy to make us stay at home?
That would be nice but no, you are right, it is just more intolerance of other people’s rights.

The Jakarta Government would be better doing something to stop all the people who leave Jakarta for Java home town and take virus with them.

As The Slaughter Proceeds, Halal Alarm in Austria!

Last week Jakarta was filling up with livestock, awaiting the ‘Day of Sacrifice,’ Idul Adha, which falls today.

I don’t usually pay it much heed, since there’s nothing I can do about the poor beasts.

I simply avoid places where one might risk observing the bloody spectacle.

Not something that school-kids here can do.

    Governor Ahok

Jakarta Governor Ahok tried to stop schoolyard slaughter last year, and provoked outbursts of fanatic hostility.

    Ahok is a good guy, a straight-talker…

Fanatic Islamist Wails At Christian Governor – “He Calls People Names!”

…but he has no majority support on the City Council, so cannot hope to bring the capital into the 21st century single-handed.

City councilor Nasrullah from the Prosperous Justice Party called on Governor Ahok not to interfere with religious traditions like the slaughtering of animals during Idul Adha because such an intervention could spark conflict.

    Oh yeah?

Back down or there’s gonna be trouble?

    PKS, the ‘Prosperous Justice Party’

    • Nice democratic attitude that.

For those who don’t know, the PKS is often likened to the Muslim Brotherhood, and has a somewhat questionable record on all kinds of things, to say the least.

Wahhabism and Women Spell Woe for Fanatic Islamist PKS

Beef Scandal – Islamist Fanatic Luthfi Jailed ‘Till the Cows Come Home!’

It was led till recently by a man named Anis Matta, infamous for his ode to mass-murderer Osama Bin Laden!

However, since we’re on the subject of halal, I saw something about that in the European media, a week ago. a Halal drink alleged to support jihad financing !

The accusations were made in an article in German weekly ‘Spiegel,’ which writes that radical Islamists use the profit of selling drinks made by Austrian-Bosnian company ‘Sultan Drinks’ to finance propaganda…

Halal drink alleged to support jihad financing

The report appears to exculpate the Sultan Drinks owners, but the dealers who sell it are another matter, e.g.

The company ‘Triple Port Ltd.’ is one of the companies that sells the drinks. One of their contact people is Karim L.

He was the speaker of the Muslim Council in the German city of Bonn who had to resign after it became clear he had raised funds for a Salafist organisation…

Another Enemy Within, who should not be in Germany at all. Sensible countries ought not to allow adherents of savage, primitive ideologies to operate within their borders,

Another Italian Court Crawls To Shariah!

So now callous cruelty is the latest phenomenon to be excused on shariah grounds by what we thought were civilised European countries?

    Shariah Controlled Zone_thumb[1]

How long will this appeasement go on?

I’ll skip comment on the way the report slurs Romania by referring to the brutal curs as ‘Romanian travellers living in a camp‘ – they are quite obviously Roma and readers know what that means…

Travellers DON’T Obstruct Roads and Railways! It’s Roma Ratbags!

Brussels, to the French, in France – “It’s No Matter if You’reRoma or French!”

Utopia? Even German Left Wakes Up toRomaParasite Menace!

The mangy swine were charged by Genoa police two years ago after publicly slaughtering a young goat by cutting its throat and then hanging it upside down, while it was still conscious….

Wholesale killing of goats and cattle is not unusual here in Indonesia, which of course is 90% Muslim. It takes place at Idul Adha, not long before the Christmas holiday season as a rule.

I often see the animals penned up along the roadsides and feel sorry for them. But this is Indonesia, where maltreatment of animals is not something that is covered in many state or city laws.

Our report, in contrast, comes from Italy, one of the cradles of European culture! Decent locals were horrified – ‘bloodcurdling’ was the word they used to describe what happened.

But the Roma ratbags were bought to justice!

The two men were then convicted of animal cruelty and fined €4,600.

    Hold that cheer!

A grovel git named Judge Mauro Amisano heard the nasty pair’s appeal and let them off, because the act was carried out as part of a religious festival.

So violation of Italian law is now perfectly okay, if cruel criminals plead that shariah allows it?

“It cannot be considered illegal because it is a practice which is permitted by the freedom of religious expression.”  http://www.thelocal.it/20160509/italian-court-absolves-two-muslims-fined-over-public-goat-slaughter

So shariah trumps Italy’s legal code? Murder of apostates and the stoning of alleged adulteresses will feature next on that ass Amisano’s agenda for decriminalisation?

God damn that sell-out turd of a judge!

Governor Nixes Fanatic Demand For Ritual Slaughter in School-Yards!

And away we go again, round umpteen of the long-running IslamoNazis V Ahok saga, the nasty bigots of the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front (FPI) now ranting about the Jakarta Governor’s ban on Idul Adha sacrificial slaughter on school premises in the capital.

    • ahok Ahok
    • =============
    • Since there are plenty of places for locals to cut the throats of helpless animals all over town, it seems a silly tantrum.
    • Ahok has said the slaughterers must use designated places, on health grounds. ‘Children are at risk of infection from spilt animal blood.’  He’s also pointed out that even Saudi Arabia imposes similar restrictions.

But of course the white-shirt thug gang claims Ahok is thereby ‘harassing Muslims.

The gangsters seem to have many secretary-generals, but the one in the report today is some jihadist jerk called Jafar Sidiq, who says that this bloody ritual has become a tradition for people in Jakarta. Sacrifice at school also gives lessons to children…

I’m sure it does, if schools are purpose-built to inculcate sectarianism. Ahok appears to be on firm ground when he issued his regulation, which applies not just to schools but also public roadsides, etc.

If some fanatic don’t care for the designated slaughter-houses, then the proper place for this kind of  religious ‘sacrifice’ is on religious premises, surely. There, at the mosques, only those who wish to witness this cruel form of killing will be present. Elsewhere, many people would, I’m sure, find it distressing, especially children.

    • ======================
    • But distressing people is something of a way of life for IslamoNazis, as the citizens of Sukorejo saw a year or so ago, the arrogant intolerants invading the town, leaving an innocent woman dead and a citizenry so enraged that the cowardly white-shirts had to flee from their wrath, skulking in a mosque till nightfall, when they got a police escort out of town.

IslamoNazis V Freedom-Fighters? – Some Chicken, Some Neck

Their language is often distressing too, not least to former President SBY, when the then FPI fuhrer likened him to a banci, a cross-dressing hooker.

But pot-kettle analogies don’t resonate with the likes of Jafar, who rounded off his rant by saying his gang would no longer recognise Ahok as Governor (they didn’t anyway – Jakarta’s Anti-Governor?  ) because he always speaks bad words, a mouth like sewage, and is always hurting people.

And of course the FPI are forever courteous in their protests, and would never dream of hurting people.
