    Ma’af, Nia Danata! Jakarta Needs More Than New Censor Rules

    Interesting to read in the ever-astonishing Jakarta Post, whose parent company Gramedia perpetrated the most glaring example of sectarian censorship not that long ago, a Nazi-style book-burning to placate Islamist bigots, that somebody’s claiming…

    =

    Indonesian movie industry still not entirely free from censorship:

    Since the Jakarta Post has never condemned Gramedia’s infamous grovel to jihadist fanatics, it’s not surprising that this complaint comes not from JP editors but from a lady named Nia Dinata.

    =

    Gambar terkait

    =

    She’s a real wee cutie, as you can see, but she’s also a film director, who says, quite rightly, that the Indonesian movie industry is still in shackles as judgmental groups are reluctant to accept the freedom of expression by artists which are often out of the box.

    But Nia is surely guilty of understatement!

    It’s not only ‘out of the box‘ movies that get hammered, and the hammers are not only wielded by sectarian nutjobs (which I imagine is what she means by judgmental groups)

    It wasn’t just silly little censor cuts imposed on the film ‘Noah!’

    I usually enjoy Russel Crowe films but found ‘Noah’ stupid and boring to watch. Yet why on earth was the entire movie outlawed throughout Indonesia?

    ==

    Russel Crowe dalam Noah (Foto: Ist)

    Noah’ Banned – Who’s Next? State Censors or Sectarian Enforcers?

    Why?

    Because it upset violent bigot gangs and the non-violent bigot cliques, much the same sorts as the book burned by Gramedia also did!

    And we’ve had to report other examples of the most extreme elements in Indonesia doing their dirty worst to tell Indonesian people what they may or may not watch.

    ‘Cinta Tapi Beda!’ – First Blood to IslamoNazis!

    cinta-tapi-beda-film

    ———————————

    Cinta Tapi Beda was about love between a guy and gal of different religions, and had the foul fanatics frothing, as they often do here.

    =

    =

    Clearly a film for young people, teens especially, coming up to the age when they think of marriage!

    So Nia’s suggestion this week, that  instead of censoring, “Age classification must be clear. Every line of industry, be it movie theaters or TV, must be required to include age classification,” does not make that much sense.

    There are other films we’ve looked at, such as this –Soekarno’ Film – IslamoNazis Threaten Cinema Raids!  – and I’m too busy today to wax indignant about the clouded cleavage crisis on our tv screens, or the general tv censorship issue, covered in previous posts like this…

    =

    tight jeans 21

    Dimana Bokong2nya? – Where Are Our Buttocks?

    … but while vigilante hoodlums should be truncheoned by stern law enforcement officers out of their pretensions to any role in censorship…

    Gambar terkait

    =

    …even official censorship here needs a lot more reforming than Nia suggests, to drag it into the 20th, never mind the 21st Century!

    Never mind, her heart’s in the right place.

    Malaysia – Bigots Witch-Hunt The Harmless Godless!

    It is always a bit disconcerting when strangers, people sitting beside you on the TransJakarta buses, for example, enquire about your religion, which, to my way of thinking, is entirely one’s own business, and nobody else’s – except God’s!

    =

    =

    I understand that hospitals ask such odd questions, in case you die! But when it’s a police officer, if you’re reporting a theft, for instance?

    No matter, I’m of Ulster-Scots descent and live up to that…

    …by celebrating Christian holidays, as above, and enjoy carol services on Christmas Eve. So I answer, simply, ‘Protestant!’ Such questioning isn’t meant to be rude and doesn’t really bother me.

    But when one has to read about fanatic exhortations?

    Islamist ‘Scholars’ – “Atheists Get Out of Indonesia!”

    Yet here in Jakarta, at least, they do not usually come from government ministers.

    Across the strait, in Malaysia, things are different…

    Malaysia’s atheists fearful following calls by a minister to ‘track them down’

    Some Malay atheists in Malaysia are worried and fearful – in recent days there was a call by a minister “to track them down” while a Muslim cleric issued a reminder that the penalty for apostasy under Islam is “death…”
    http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/malaysia-s-atheists-fearful-following-calls-by-a-minister

    We don’t expect any better from ‘clerics’ like Mufti Mohd Yusof Ahmad.

    =====

    Gambar terkait

    …Islam prescribes death against Muslims who leave the religion for atheism, if they are “stubborn” and refuse to repent…

    =========

    – and not just in Malaysia or here in Indonesia – such beliefs hold sway among alien ‘migrants’ in Western countries too.

    But when is the Malaysian Prime Minister going to fire the ‘Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department,’ Shahidan Kassim…

    =

    Hasil gambar untuk shahidan kassim menteri

    =

    …who has disgracefully declared that the government should track down atheists. “I suggest we track them down and identify each of them. After that, we have to bring them back to the right path,” he said. This is a religious country…

     =

    Fortunately, not everyone in Kuala Lumpur’s corridors of power shares this bigot’s taste for hounding harmless people for the ‘crime’ of thinking for themselves.

    Malaysia’s Deputy Home Affairs Minister Mohamed Nur Jazlan is one such.

    Gambar terkait

    ==

    Asked whether there will be a campaign against atheists, he said: “I wouldn’t encourage it.”

    While the bloodthirsty call for the persecution of people innocent of any offence except thought is not reflected in the country’s federal statutes, it is alarming to learn that ‘nine out of the 14 states (have) enactments (that) criminalises apostasy.’

    No wonder one expert says – with what must surely  be described as masterly understatement – that “Malaysia isn’t the moderate state that it used to be…”

    ‘Kota Setan?’ Devil City In Java? Fanatics Fume Over Festival!

    Well, how many of you, dear readers, paid attention to recent comments emanating from the FPI, the self-styled ‘Islam Defender Front?’

    None of you, probably, if you live overseas!

    But here in Indonesia, ever since President Jokowi chose to share a platform with Habib Rizieq, the FPI ‘High Priest,’ one is surely ill-advised to ignore their utterances, however bizarre.

    Rizieq, on the left, Jokowi, on the right

    So Has Indonesia Come To This? Paradise Lost?

    ============

    And they don’t come much more bizarre than the latest outburst from the white-shirt vigilante gang’s Purwakarta gauleiter, Muhammad Syahid Joban.

    ———

    Hasil gambar untuk joban fpi purwakarta

    FPI’s Syahid Joban

    =======

    It’s not exactly the first time that Islamist fanatics have shown signs of stress over matters relating to that provincial city.

    In 2011, a pack of sectarian louts went on a rampage of vandalism against various statues of legendary figures from the widely revered Ramayana pantheon…

    ==

    ………….

    Then in 2015, they got their (presumably white) knickers in a right twist about massive resistance to their activities by decent Muslims, when Rizieq’s appearance there had to be protected by police.

    Bravo, Purwakarta! IslamoNazis Cower Behind Cops – Again!

    0000

    This time that geezer Syahid was in a tizzy, railing at the popular and entertaining local regent, Dedy Mulyadi, because of a festival in the West Java city.

    “Never participate in the Jurig Festival,’ ranted Joban.

    Why?

    =

    Hasil gambar untuk jurig purwakarta

    Jurig parade

    ======

    Well, it seems the cultural festival has been outrageously focusing on culture, not religion.

    And one of the traditional carriages in the photo was allegedly used to bring a buffalo to a ‘polytheistic’ event. Joban was in the news last year, when he tweet-scolded Jokowi for having had the carriage to the National Palace!

    http://www.panjimas.com/news/2016/08/13/ulama-purwakarta-pak-jokowi-kenapa-anda-bawa-kereta-jurig-ini-ke-istana/

    Now the indefatigable extremist is yelping on the same cultural festival, again!

    ‘Religion comes first, then culture, not the other way about!’

    http://www.viva.co.id/berita/nasional/943299-fpi-sebut-festival-kebudayaan-purwakarta-cuma-bikin-gila

    =====

    Like, uh, why, we might be tempted to ask again!

    But not, perhaps, if we read the Viva.com article all the way through.

    It becomes clear that the white-shirts are still harping on their grudge against Dedy Mulyadi…

    Islamist Insanity – ‘He’s Married The Goddess of the South Seas!’

    …which we’ve noted in the past!

    The fanatics reckon Dedy nurtures hopes of becoming West Java’s Governor!

    ‘Don’t ever let that happen!’ says the Gauleiter, who wound up the rant by warning his fans not to fool around when it came time to choose regional leaders.

    “Otherwise, Purwakarta will become a ‘Devil City!'”

    ==

    Ooooh! Scary!

    Or….WOW!

    Such a transformation might promote a different brand of tourism from that our in-coming Jakarta Administration is said to be contemplating.

      Religion come first in mosque or church and that is right.
      Culture is for all Purwakarta people with any religion.
      Java people all respect history and love legend of Java like with the statues and only FPI has problem with that.
      Nobody will make the FPI join the fest fun because we know FPI hate fun.

    Jakarta’s Djarot Talks Sense – ‘Shape Up Or Ship Out!’

    Ii’s a great shame that Ahok is no longer Jakarta’s Governor…

    =

    …but since he’s been imprisoned under Indonesia’s mind-blowing ‘blasphemy law.’ he can’t be.

    However his deputy, Djarot, is now in charge, if only till Anies Baswedan, elected with the enthusiastic support of the most fanatical Islamists in the land, becomes big boss of the capital in a month or two.

    0000

    Gambar terkait

    Djarot

    Djarot is a much more low-profile politician than his predecessor, but this week he talked a lot of sense about the unwholesome elements, telling his employees to resign from office if they feel the state ideology Pancasila is irrelevant to the country.

    =

    =

    New readers overseas should read up on Pancasila, but basically it’s the philosophical basis of how the founding fathers wanted Indonesia to develop, as a tolerant country – it needs to be, with its many ethnic groups and religious creeds!

    =

    ====

    The rise of rabid jihadist gangs is a clear and present danger to that, so – somewhat belatedly – steps are being proposed, like the central government’s putative ban on the calipho-fascist movement Hizbut Tahrir, to curb the sectarian threat.

    Thus Djarot reminded staff that all civil servants had sworn to protect and abide by the ideology.

    “If any civil servant thinks Pancasila is not appropriate, just be nice and send a resignation letter!”

    Better still, he suggested those opposed to Pancasila should even leave the country and find other nations that accommodated their ideology.  http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/07/24/djarot-tells-anti-pancasila-civil-servants-to-leave-office.html

    All this, one must assume, is a mildly delphic reference to jihadists, whose allegiance is not to Indonesia but to Islamist supranationalism, the fundamentally treasonous belief that solidarity with co-religionists overseas should trump patriotic duty.

    It is an offensive notion and not just to Indonesian nationalists.

    Western countries too should echo Djarot.

    • Of course those addicted to unpleasant alien ideologies should be encouraged, if not obliged, to sod off to where their retard mind-sets will be more at home.

    Djarot can’t be faulted.

    Mama Stasi Merkel, however, CAN be faulted!

    … instead of letting her Iraqi captors finish her off as she deserves.

    As for public servants here in Jakarta, or elsewhere in the archipelago, why should there not be a ban on Enemy Within jihad-addicts drawing teacher salaries from the Indonesian public purse?

    In American schools, in healthier times, communities did all they could to exclude marxists from teaching posts, concerned that subversives bound by their own twisted codes would poison young minds with red toxins.

    Jihadists too will stop at nothing to inject their vile dogmas into the class-room.

    SO…?

    Fire them!

    I’m amazed, though, that the Jakarta Post editorial hacks have not begun whining at Djarot’s sensible views.

    The JP is forever babbling about how unfair Indonesia is to the red vermin of the PKI…

    ‘We Don’t Want Communism?’ But if You Did, It’s Time To Apologise!!

    …and the JP’s parent company has a shameful record of collaboration with Islamist intolerance.

    Get Your Tickets Soon – Jakarta Shariah Tourism Boom?

    We did report on Sandiago Uno’s astounding promise prior to the Jakarta election – as a  result of which he’s now Deputy Governor – that he envisioned a sharia-inspired nightlife entertainment network in Jakarta.

    But we merely noted it, in a post which covered all the issues that were alarming normal people.

    The Ugly Face of Islamist Intolerance!

    Not that Sandiago Uno himself is in any way unprepossessing. On the contrary, he comes across as very presentable and personable!

    =====Gambar terkait

    But now this rich, American-educated ( yes, truly!) entrepreneur has shown he’s a man of his word.

    Sandiaga Uno to establish sharia tourism zone in Jakarta

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/06/28/sandiaga-uno-to-establish-sharia-tourism-zone-in-jakarta.html

    Note, no question mark! This guy is serious about his plan, for the Senen area of  the capital.

     “I think it will be interesting if there is a religious tourism zone [in the area], which is properly arranged with tents. Hence, mobility can be ensured.”

    I welcome that last sentence. Mobility – the ability to get through Senen as fast as possible – would need to be an integral part of any such scheme, as many of us encounter horrendous traffic jams there.

    ……..

    …..

    I sat on a  bus a month ago for nearly an hour, just waiting to get through the underpass beside the big shopping area.

    But what delights would await folks who flitted in and out of Sandiago’s tents?

    Many places popular with tourists who come to Jakarta feature what are invariably described as ‘sexy dancers.’

    =

    =

    Not just ‘dancers,’ NB, which has always made me smile, wondering if the proprietors fear that patrons would not recognise the dancers’ sexiness without being told of it!

    —-

    However, I somehow doubt that the tents would accommodate any spectacle of that sort.

    Sandiago previously talked of such joys as Koranic readings, but would that really draw shariah-fans to Jakarta when they can easily find THE REAL THING…

    =

    =

    …by taking a short flight up to Indonesia’s most northerly province, ACEH, proudly dubbed by some of its inhabitants as the ‘Verandah of Mecca,’ the ONLY province in the archipelago where shariah is enshrined in the local legal code of law.

    No tedious tents required there, because the quintessence of shariah morality is displayed in the main squares…

    …..

    ….

    …….

    ….young women being beaten by cowards too ashamed to show their faces, before a salivating rabble of voyeurs and fanatics.

    Nor are dancers, either sexy or otherwise, a popular phenomenon up there, where such repositories of wisdom as this kindly old gent have made plain their demerits…

      Shariah tourism is a joke, who would come here for that ? If they like watching women getting hurt for holding hands with their boyfriends they can go to Aceh as you say or some other terrible place, Iran or Saudi Arabia
      More reasons to be cheerless but thats what Shariah is all about.

      Happy when I read this. Indonesia is not Arab and no need for shariah.
      Thank you.

      Goodevening, Ross, such a long time I do not comment but often I read an think you are doing good work for Indonesia and so tonight I say to myself, do not be lazy to comment.
      This is all true and these FPI and the other fanatics are taking over. We lowly people have no way to stop them so we believed Jokowi will do it.
      But sad to say it, we are mistaken.
      Who will save our country?

    Islamist Intolerance Rules, In ‘Moderate’ Police State!

    Well now!

    Even Amnesty agrees with me on this!

    They have condemned the imprisonment of a man in Tunisia for smoking a cigarette in public during the dawn-to-dusk Muslim fast.

    =

    =

    I’ve been smoking all over town here in Jakarta, a 90% Muslim city, and not noticed that anybody looks askance. My lunches are still taken at my warteg, though it has its ‘holy’ curtains up out front.

    Big Mackistan? Ramadhan Lock-Out at McD Sarinah?

    I find this month wearisome, partly from reading snippets of of news from outside Jakarta..

    Bigot Goon-Squad Bullies Vendor – Decent Indonesians Open Hearts AND Wallets!

    …where sectarian bullying can be the work of IslamoNazi thugs…

    …or may well be enshrined in local regulations – like in Mandar, where dozens of people were harassed and detained  by cops, local militia and religious leaders and community leaders, last week.

    ==

    the local government has written to every food stall and beverage owner so that during Ramadan do not operate during the day in honor of Muslims who are running fast. But still many stalls reported residents remain open as usual….“All the food stalls that remain operational during the day during Ramadan will be disciplined, “said H Ummar S, head of Wonomulyo.

    That’s a Javanese community, in West Sulawesi Province, not in Java at all, it exists due to trans-island migration, some people having evidently carried their bigotry with them,

    Jakarta also has some bizarre regulations, and my partying opportunities are lessened. There are those silly curtains to hide non-fasters from fasters, to avoid testing the latter’s spiritual commitment, but life goes on.

    Not so in Tunisia.

    A crack-pot bigot court there sentenced the man to one month in jail for “public indecency”.

    Tunisia, we keep getting told, is a ‘moderate’ Islamic country, but after this hogwash we’ll need to take that with a large pinch of salt.

    Not to say there aren’t decent Muslims there, because dozens protested on Sunday in the capital, Tunis, for the right to eat and drink in public during Ramadan.

    =============

    =

    But the nut-job verdict was hardly a one-off, because the BBC also tells us that a fortnight ago, four men were sentenced to one month in prison after eating in public.

    Thanks to Amnesty, for advising us that in fact there is no legal basis for the sectarian persecution – there are no laws in mainly Muslim Tunisia requiring individuals to fast or barring them from eating or smoking publicly during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan…

    Tunisian smoker jailed for not fasting during Ramadan

    In other words, the state can spuriously claim to be civilised and open because there’s no relevant statute, but the reality is that the benighted courts just make it up as they go along to hammer anyone who steps out of line…

    ===

    ….shoddy drivel like a ‘public decency’ charge to lend a threadbare legitimacy to their backward bullying Islamist intolerance.

    Ramadhan just has a few days to run. It’s meant to be a time of contemplation, not a bad idea, indeed.

    I’m simply contemplating which is worse.

    The Tunisian hypocrisy way, or the West Sulawesi way, with its Dark Age diktat.

    Hasil gambar untuk intolerance

    I’m still wondering.

    Why can’t these crude kill-joys just live and let live?

    • Adele 3:15 am on June 21, 2017 Permalink | Reply

      Your final sentence, that question why the killjoys can’t stick to their religious practices and not keep trying to shove them down our throat, that is what all those whiners about Islamophobia need to answer, because we don’t force them to eat wile they’re fasting so why do they feel this burning need to force us to fast just because they sre.
      I think that phrase about how it’s our duty to ‘honor’ their fasting so obnoxious because it’s not our duty at all. Who are they to tel us our duty?

    Islamist Bullies – Who’s The Yellow-Bellied Brute In The Yellow Shirt?

    It’s a horror film, starring cackling cowardly jackasses, a whole pack of them, bullying a slightly built teenager, the chief inquisitor’s nasty whining voice going on and on, an utterly sickening display, until the skinny little lad is coerced into making a formal apology.

    ==

    What for?

    =

    Rizieq,on the left, sharing a platform with President Jokowi earlier this year.

    =

    Because he made some social media comment about the IslamoNazi ‘high priest’ Habib Rizieq, which the louts in the crowded room didn’t like

    ======

    ========

    You won’t be able to follow the words spoken so rather than go through all the toils of translation, I offer several links, some in Indonesian but one, the first one, in English, which does an excellent job of telling the full story.

    https://coconuts.co/jakarta/news/jakarta-teenager-abused-fpi-members-posting-memes-rizieq-shihab-two-arrested-video/

    FPI Dampingi 2 Terduga Pelaku Persekusi yang Ditangkap Polisi

    Persekusi Remaja di Cipinang yang Viral Bentuk Opini Hancurkan FPI

    The ‘men’ in the crowded room are all Rizieq fans, who disgrace this lovely country I’ve enjoyed living in for so many years, and it’s fair to say they disgrace their religion too.

    But of them all, I’d say the most contemptible coward is the lout in the yellow shirt…

    Yellow!

    ===

    ….who twice approaches the rabble’s victim and strikes the clearly frightened boy, from behind, of course. That yellow-belly should be named and shamed and put away for years.

    This took place not in some criminal den but in the house of the elected neighbourhood leader, apparently in Cipinang, East Jakarta. It is said that the intimidation of the innocent lad started after his teacher took exception to his observations on Rizieq.

    The boy and his family have had to move house for their own safety.  Decent Muslims, from the GP Ansor organisation,who share my dismay and disgust, have stepped in to offer protection.

    I watched this last night just before I went to bed. I wish I hadn’t, because it took me quite a while to get to sleep, due to anger and the sadness at the scenes on the video.

    What’s almost worse is the assertion by IslamoNazis that they are determined to pursue their vendetta against anyone at all who insults ‘ulema’ (‘scholars’)  –

    Islam Defenders Front (FPI) spokesperson Slamet Maarif has said offering apologies is not enough for people who have insulted the group’s leader, Rizieq Shihab….

    Apology not enough: FPI – National – The Jakarta Post

    Decent people are mobilising to resist these despicable tactics.

    One racist moron in the video preposterously warned the boy – “You’d better tell your friends of your [Chinese] ethnicity not to do it anymore, so this will not happen again,” said one FPI member.

    “You have to know that Habib Rizieq belongs not only to the FPI but also to all Muslims.

    Happily, the latest news confirms that ‘all Muslims’ do not accept this outrageous behavior, or tolerate the nonsense that normal people of any ethnicity or age or creed may not insult Rizieq or any ‘scholar.’

    Support mounts for teenager allegedly bullied by FPI – Sat, June 3

    PS – Police have since arrested two ‘men’ allegedly involved. Now how about the rest of them, and the neighbourhood leader, and that ‘teacher?’

    Indonesia’s Morning After – What’s MinahExit Mean?

    A sudden flurry of reports about something we have frankly never heard of before, the Gerakan Referendum Minahasa.

    That’s the Minahasa Referendum  Movement.

    And Minahasa refers to the ethnic group, largely Christian by faith, and good soldiers by tradition, who live in North Sulawesi.

    That’s also where the admirable protest took place against the arrival of an Islamist fanatic not long ago.

    Manado Mayhem! Jakarta Post Flouts Its Own ‘Bold’ Motto?

    But it wasn’t till very recently that this GMR movement hit the headlines.

    Again, it’s important to note the coincidence of its appearance with the shocking imprisonment of the Christian Governor of Jakarta on bizarre ‘blasphemy’ charges.

    =

    ——–

    No coincidence at all, really, because the driving force behind bringing Ahok to trial was an Islamist fanatic cabal, IslamoNazi FPI leaders in cahoots with the self-styled ‘scholars’ of the MUI.

    =

    Indonesian Press Day,’ 9th Feb – Fake News? If Only!

    =

    Ahok behind bars symbolises the growing power of intolerance – if you can’t utter a quote from the Koran in public without risking draconian punishment, how many Christians, or Hindus, or Buddhists, can be expected to feel at ease in a society which thus degrades pluralism.

    The thing people overseas need to remember is that while Indonesia may be the largest Muslim majority country in the world, it’s also home to significant minorities of non-Muslims.

    =

    =

    Bali, for example, is a Hindu island, while large Christian communities flourish in Ambon, North Sulawesi,Kalimatan (Borneo) and Sumatra ,where there are tough Bataks and a large Chinese ethnic minority in Medan. There’s also the Catholic island of Flores.

    And even in Jakarta, up to 10% of the capital’s population may be Christian, Buddhist or other religions.

    Sensible Indonesian leaders have always understood this and so religious tolerance was always not simply a moral focus but a recognition of how to keep the country together. That common-sense approach existed from the start, through Sukarno’s personality cult regime and Suharto’s dictatorship.

    =

    General Suharto

    =

    Now, however, fanatics have become a major influence in Indonesian politics. We have seen examples aplenty in recent years, outrageous intolerance against Buddhists…

    Tanjung Balai’s Burning Temples – A History of Bigotry!

    …Hindus… Bali Hindu King – Don’t Kill Our Cows! Muslim ‘Scholars’ – Get Lost!!  …

    ….and of course Christians. Oppressed Christians In The Street Heat, In Pluralist Indonesia

    =

    =

    Under President SBY a ferocious discriminatory diktat was issued, the anti-Ahmadiyah Tri-Ministerial Decree, and despite President Jokowi’s talk of pluralism, persecuted Christians in Bogor, Bekasi, etc have had no justice.

    X-Rated Xmas – Foul-Mouths Bully Christians, As ‘Moderate’Mayor Denies They Exist!’

    The imprisonment of Ahok for ‘blasphemy’ has confirmed for many people, not just religious minorities but decent Muslims, true Indonesian conservatives who cling to the traditional tolerance referred to above, that one day, in the not too distant future, they could rise from their beds to the waking nightmare of an Islamic Republic.

    If that were to happen, then separatism could, would, be a serious threat.

    Again, please note, Indonesia does not, like the UK, afford separatists all normal rights and privileges.

    =

    SNP separatist leader Nicola Sturgeon

    =

    If some local equivalent of that ghastly Scots shrew Sturgeon started shrilling for ‘independence’ for any province or island, she’d be charged with treason, and if convicted, she’d have some real problems to whine about.

    In June 2007 in Ambon, these RMS political prisoners danced the Cakalele and raised the RMS flag in front of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono…

    RMS Political Prisoners Reunite With Families After 7-Year Wait

    Hardly surprising therefore that the local cops in Sulawesi were vigorously denying any sign of separatism, despite news photos clearly depicting referendum banners.

    ==========

    http://news.metrotvnews.com/daerah/Rb1OZJ2K-kapolda-tak-ada-referendum-negara-minahasa

    http://www.tribunnews.com/regional/2017/05/15/jangan-biarkan-sulut-terpecah-belah-lmp-sulut-tolak-isu-referendum-minahasa

    But this ‘separatism,’ if separatism it is, is the inevitable consequence of Islamist intolerance. When decent folk of any religion see blood-thirsty fanatics treated as respectable notables by leading politicians, they recoil in disgust.

    But when that disgust is compounded by the realisation that their fundamnetal right to worship as they please is therefore under  threat, and when their form of worship corresponds to their local cultural heritage…?

    What else can the Government expect?

    I am no supporter of separatism. How the people of Indonesia arrange their affairs is up to them, and from 1945 they have generally been quite gifted in working out ways to live together.

    But I do hope, as somebody who has lived here happily for the best part of twenty years and has watched ever more sadly the rise of Islamist intolerance, that somebody in the corridors of power in Jakarta can, even at this eleventh hour, reverse the process of jihadist Arabisation.

    Viva Pancasila!

    Jakarta’s Annual Intolerance Outbreak- Billiards Banned Too?

    First day of Ramadhan. I had my favourite visitor come to see me today, so only went out to Indomaret, for cigarettes.

    =

    =

    I see from Tempo.com that my gloomy expectations of the fasting month have indeed come to pass, with kill-joy restrictions on anywhere fun might be found in Jakarta.

    This annual intolerance – we may not enjoy ourselves so NONE of you will – will extend to six types of entertainments such as night club, spa, massage parlor, gambling, and night bar. The same goes for billiard spots.

    ====

    ===

    It’s bad enough that Muslim citizens into self-denial are thus insulted, the Jakarta City Government basically deeming them so weak-willed that  bureaucrats have to protect them from all need to exercise self-discipline.

    But there’s no justification at all for denying the hundreds of thousands of non-Muslim citizens ( and foreign residents )any access to entertainment. We are under no spiritual obligation to fast, so why make us suffer?

    The  Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency’s Jeje Nurjaman seems to feel no embarrassment in declaring that by this censorious sectarian decree…

    ===============

    • Gambar terkait

    =

    …these places will be forced to shut down one day before and throughout the Ramadan month, and one day after the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

    Okay, we express the same disappointment every year, and still the rank Islamist intolerance prevails. It’s a mean-spirited mind-set, so be it.

    But can their dogmatic approach at least accommodate a modicum of logic?

    Meanwhile, karaoke and other musical entertainment spots that provide pool tables are allowed to open from 8:30 p.m. to 01:30 a.m.

    Gambar terkait

    However, Jeje went on, billiard tables provided for customers of night clubs, discotheques, saunas, massage parlors, gambling centers and bars must be closed.

    So it’s not the game that’s affronting bigots but what might be going on in the immediate vicinity of the gaming tables?

    ==

    ==

    Listening to karaoke music is spiritually safer than dancing to disco music?

    Hmmm!

    For God’s Sake!

    And get this utterly nonsensical diktat.

    ….nightclubs that are not in the vicinity of residential areas, mosques or churches, schools, and hospitals, and are located in commercial areas, such as hotels, are allowed to be opened.

    So we can all rush to hotels to indulge in base self-indulgence of our sensual impulses, but may not do so if we might emerge  in the wee small hours near a HOSPITAL?

    Hey!

    =

    Gambar terkait

    ======

    Jakarta sidewalks are often poorly maintained, and if you’ve had a few beers, it’s entirely within the bounds of possibility that you could quite easy stumble and fall.

    ====

    ……….

    Proximity to a hospital should arguably be a prerequisite for anywhere that has intoxicating beverages among their attractions!

    And I won’t even bother to ask why churches are bracketed with mosques as places where users might face temptation they’re unable to resist.

    Mosque-goers are expected to observe Ramadhan (though of course they should not be coerced, either by sticky-beak bureaucrats or IslamoNazi thugs) whereas church-goers are NOT! In the small English town I lived in for many years, it was normal practice for the congregants to walk directly from Sunday worship to Sunday lunch at the pub.

    In fact, when I spent a long weekend in the lovely Shropshire city of Ludlow, there was a boisterous character at the bar as we were sitting down with a mixed grill on Sunday. I asked the bar-maid who he might be, for it seemed like he knew everyone.

    ‘That’s the vicar,’ she smilingly replied.
