Update On The Girl – If Thais Send Her Back, Boycott Thailand!

Saudi Arabia is of course a cess-pool of Islamist intolerance.

    =

    Jackboot

    =

Christians and adherents of other religions are not allowed to build houses of worship, as far as I know, and are certainly not free to preach in public or proselytise – seeking to convert others to their creeds, which ought to be a basic right in every country, is VERY dangerous.

    =

    thought-police-e1369141340932

    =

So if people escape from the desert dungeon kingdom, there should be no question of forcing them back, unless they are villains out to replace Saudi shariah despotism with something worse, marxism, or an even more fanatical form of sectarianism.

Those latter ‘isms’ can hardly be applied to the teenage lass trapped in a Thai hotel room.

    =

We had a short sharp blog-burst when the story broke, reminding you of a previous case, but as we have read more on what’s behind her plight, the case for saving her from repatriation is even stronger than we first thought. It’s not just a ‘family matter’ at all.

Saudi woman who renounced Islam detained on her way to Australia

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2019/01/saudi-woman-who-renounced-islam-detained-on-her-way-to-australia.html

I’m not sure what properly constitutes a ‘human right,’ a term debased by idiot judges and millennial morons in recent years, ever twisting the concept to bring it into disrepute among normal people.

But if there is one thing every man and woman of goodwill must surely agree on, it has to be the right to convert to, or from, any religion, or not to adhere to any creed at all.

The Saudis do NOT agree, and, like many primitive and savage persons, not only in the Arabian Peninsula but elsewhere, believe that using one’s God-given brain to decide for yourself how to worship God,  or even whether to worship God, is a capital crime.

Such a belief puts them beyond the pale of civilisation.

    boycott

If Thailand surrenders the girl to the Saudis’ sectarian bigot cruelty, then Thailand is not a place I would willingly spend any time at all.

I hope other people think so too.

I spent a while in Bangkok and in Jakarta and Bangkok totally lacks the charm that Jakarta for all its faults does have.
So you do not have to persuade me to stay away from the place.
Incidentally, I just heard on the news that the Thais are now showing a little sense, that Rahaf will not be forced out.
You make a good case against Saudi Arabia, though, all the things you say are true and it would be very wrong if that young lady is sent back there, very wrong too to punish people for leaving whatever religion.
Killing people for converting is a terrible sin against God. He can sort out sinners for Himself.
Even if you are an atheist it is a sin, against reason.

That’s a good point you make, about the way ‘human rights’ have been transformed from things most of us would think were good to almost anything that some fool dreams up.
I saw on tv today, just after I read your words, that Estonia has declared that ‘internet access’ is a ‘human right’ and inserted that idiocy into its constitution!
Internet access is fun and useful. Nothing more.

Hear hear, Ross, and I’m pleased that you inserted those cautionary words about marxists and fanatics. You could have added barbarians.

This young Arab lady is highly unlikely to be any kind of risk to Australia.

That cannot be said about the African gangs now terrorising Melbourne, or the Islamists who enjoyed all the benefits of living in a civilised Western country and then joined its deadly enemies.
Selectivity in admitting ‘asylum’ seekers is essential.

So what is Google playing at now?

According to various international media reports, if Indonesians wake up feeling intolerant, they can go to Google Play store and pick up a handy app to turn their bigoted impulses into actual persecution.

It’s called ‘“Smart Pakem,” and it lets sectarian up-tights report groups practicing religions not officially recognized by the state, as well as unorthodox interpretations of Indonesia’s six official religions…

    =

I could dwell on the sad state of affairs in which the credibility of one’s own faith is so insecure that one feels a need, not to defend it in serious debate, but to run crying to the authorities for a helping jackboot.

But I will resist that temptation. God knows we have covered such sorry conduct often enough.

…and it is a great pity that President Jokowi has not rescinded that law.

But in the lack of such a repeal, surely it would be wiser not to draw attention to the diktat, and not to use modern technology in such a way as to encourage the worst sort of fanatics – of whom there are more than enough – to use it in the same way ardent communists would have done in Stalin’s Soviet Union…

If any Islamist fanatics, of whom there are thousands in Britain, known to police already but regrettably not under lock and key, reacted unplesantly to the presence of Bibi in our country, then they should get an even more unpleasant reaction from the authorrities.
Police batons are out of date. Tasers for up close, tear-gas for those who refuse to disperse in major street confrontations and yes, serious fire-power against any who turn violent.

I think she might be forced by the outcry to change her mind.
Did you read that several Muslim clerics in the UK have added their voices to those urging May to grow a spine and do the right thing?
It’s very important to understand that the horribly ignorant people who think ‘blasphemers’ must be harmed or even killed are only one part of the Islamic population, even in Pakistan.
The trouble is that such barbaric people are tolerated and treated as worthy of a fair hearing.
They should be prosecuted for incitement to murder.

It would be a good thing like you say to get rid of them. There is no benefit to any country to have Islamists among the population.
The article names a very bad imam in England and deporting him would be a start. Maybe if Britain gets rid of Theresa Shariah May and her successor is a patriot there might be action taken.

But aside from his nasty prejudices against Muslims who dissented from his own dogmatic doctrines, he could make people laugh too, with odd-ball rants like this – viz.

The Beat, Jakarta, 29th March 2012 –  Indonesia’s powerful Religious Affairs minister, Suryadharma Ali, has declared that miniskirts are pornographic and should be banned under tough new anti-porn laws.

Appointed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono earlier this month to run the new task force into pornography, Ali told reporters in Jakarta yesterday that a set of universal criteria must be decided. He added that, “one criteria will be when anyone is wearing a skirt above the knee.”

    -####################################

Any normal person who reads such hogwash would laugh, because there is obviously nothing ‘pornographic’ about miniskirts, and in any event a lot of skirts that reveal knees are NOT miniskirts!

But although such drivel is not heard from the current Religion Minister, who tends to be fairly rational in his statements, his predecessor’s offensive mind-set seems to be alive and well in today’s Jakarta.

But they are all decent respectable women and if anybody said they wern’t they would get told off faster than a speeding bullet.
The way these exhibitions are called ‘Modest Wear’ is an insult to all normal women all over the world who are not ashamed of their ankles, knees, calves and hair.
It is good to hear a voice raised against the arrogance of the Arabization of Indonesia.

Have you seen the latest issue of ‘Now’ magazine?
It winds up on a lof reception area tables in Jakarta offices and it has an article about a ‘Modest Wear’ show I think in Plaza Indonesia and when I saw that I felt exactly like you, like, what the hell is modest about showing off that youre Islamic.
The women I work with and the women in my house are 100% polite, modest and well-behaved but they are not hung up on covering up their heads or their knees.
If these women want to dress like they do that is ok by me but calling it Modest Wear is just a put-down against women who do not.
Suryadharma Ali would love the fesyen modest because it is propaganda for his style of religious fanatic beliefs.

Your opinion about this is same like my opinion too.
Most girls here go to work and do not wear bikini or only underwear in the shop or the office. We are modest and just as much modest as those girls in arab clothes fashion show.
It is a big insult to us for them to say the arab clothes are modest like if our normal Indonesia dress and skirt are not.

Another ‘Blasphemy’ Victim! Indonesia Embarrassed Again?

After sending a good man to prison for ‘offences’ that would be laughed out of court in most democratic countries…

    =

Slouching Towards Shariah, Indonesia Jails Ahok

…Indonesia now faces further embarrassment over its archaic ‘blasphemy’ legislation.

The interestingly named ‘Democratic Party’ has expelled a local official in East Java, because he dared question some tenets of the Muslim creed.

    =

    Gambar terkait

    =

That’s the same party that ran SBY’s successful campaign for the presidency a few years ago, and since he, during his years in office, not only did nothing to scrap the bizarre ‘blasphemy’ law…

….but actually proposed that sectarian censorship be made a global diktat, no surprises, I guess, that the ‘Democrats’ are so eager to stomp poor Mr. Rendra Hadikurniawan.

    =

Detained for saying what he thinks – Rendra taken by cops

    =

And indeed, any party has the right to expel any member it doesn’t want.

But the next chapter in this sorry saga is horrific, at least to those of us who care about Indonesia’s image overseas.

Sidoarjo Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor), the youth wing of Nahdlatul Ulama, said the statement from Rendra, who was a member of the Democratic Party prior to the allegations, had hurt a lot of Muslims.

    htmlwww.thejakartapost.com/news/2018/04/29/democratic-party-politician-arrested-for-alleged-blasphemy.html

Unlikely that anybody was admitted to hospital from watching a video, so we must assume G P Ansor means those pathetic ‘hurt feelings,’ which normal grown-ups handle without running crying to the cops.

    Times are a’changing here.

I had always – but now no longer – considered GP Ansor a ‘moderate’ outfit, because they had real cred in standing up to Islamist louts….

But not any more, if this report is accurate – and I have no reason to think it’s inaccurate.

“We reported him to the police to avoid further public unrest,” said the organization’s deputy chairman, Rachmad Muzayin, on Friday

East Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Frans Barung Mangera said that the police officers had arrested Rendra in Trawas in Mojokerto.

    For pity’s sakes!

Is it now a criminal offence to question dogma?

    Well, yes, obviously!

Thank you Ross. I was hoping you may write about this new attack on free speech by a new enemy, the Ansor. I also believed they were on our side for freedom, but I am very disappointed.

President Jokowi made a promise to us for a Mental Revolution but that is impossible when we still have not got free from this olden times blasphemy censorship.

Very happy always when you come back to writing about Indonesia again and I am in agreement about this man Rendra .
Why can he not say what he wants about any religion?
Ansor and the NU let us down. They want oppose extremists but now they do extremists job and tells us we cannot speak about religion as we wish to.
They are same like the intolerant MUI who will never debate but always ban. .
      What are they afraid of?

I was just talking about this and then saw what you have written. Words of wisdom, and I dont always say that about your blog, Ross.
Its pitiful how thin-skinned these ‘religious’ people can be.
What the hell will be next?
Ramadan starts in a couple of weeks.
Will the FPI be out again picking on people who want to eat lunch?
Or is it now so bad that the police will enforce the fast on everyone, whether we are fasting or not?
Are we the last generation of happy expats here?

So there is some talk of mental health issues?
That sounds like the good old USSR to me, if you criticize the ruling ideology, you are unbalanced!
Or is it that this detainee is getting ready to use it as a defense strategy against this unbelievable charge?

    • Siska 12:30 pm on May 1, 2018 Permalink | Reply

It is easy for you expats.
You may leave Indonesia anytime you want to leave.
      Have a pity on us.
We must live here in our country eventhough it is not like our country anymore.
Once we were freed from the Dutch. Who will free us from those who think like Arabs?

Stop Being Wussies, Jakarta Post! Condemn Gramedia Collabos!

A long-winded Easter editorial in the Jakarta Post ends up with this stirring exhortation to young Indonesian Christians.

    ooooo

Followers of Christ should rise and enhance their contribution for their nation, not just for their own groups. Most Indonesians are tolerant, moderate and inclusive.

The number of intolerant people is indeed rising. But the tendency should not excuse you from serving your nation and country. Happy Easter!

And this is indeed an admirable sentiment, as is their headline…

    EDITORIAL: Easter: Stop being wussies

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/academia/2018/03/29/editorial-easter-stop-being-wussies.html

But it’s very easy to shrill thus from within an editorial ivory tower, a much safer position than was that of the Christians, young and old, in Bekasi, or Bogor, two cities that border Jakarta…

Christ’s Ascension Day – Islamist Savages Pelt Congregation With Sewage, Urine and Rocks

Head-Scarfed Harpies Hurl Dung and Urine at Christians

X-Rated Xmas – Foul-Mouths Bully Christians, As ‘Moderate’Mayor Denies They Exist!’

…when bigoted savages, neither arrested nor charged by the police on the scene, assailed them viciously, vilely and violently.

Both congregations victimised in the above reports remain unable to worship in their churches – Indonesian readers know all about this and overseas readers can check the facts easily enough.

But let’s be fair. The Jakarta Post itself knows all about intolerant Islamist intimidation.

Their parent company, Gramedia, was faced with Islamist intrusion into their rights a few years ago.

The management cowered and caved in, violating basic principles of free expression, in an action replay of Nazi Germany’s book-burning atrocities.

    ===============

Never once has the JP’s editorial clique ever condemned that shameful collaboration with sectarian fanatics, not that I’ve ever seen or heard of, at least.

But it’s never too late to do the right thing.

    STOP BEING WUSSIES, JAKARTA POST!

Denounce the craven crawlers whose anti-democratic bonfire that day disgraced Indonesia.

      Happy Easter Ross!
I love the blog most of all it when you write about this topic.

Ross, Do you never get fed up banging on and on about how cowardly and rotten Gramedia was, and how cowardly and rotten the Jakarta Post is for never condemning Gramedia?.
Here’s an Easter pat on the back.
      WELL DONE!
They are a disgrace and dont deserve anything else

    • Kezia 7:42 pm on March 31, 2018 Permalink | Reply

I know not only I but many other Indonesian people must appreciate this, Ross.
I will never shop in Gramedia because of the book burning. ..

    • WIta N 8:25 pm on March 31, 2018 Permalink | Reply

It is best if you explain that Gramedia is not some very little company. It has many related medias big and small and all around Indonesia.
We see from the book burner day that if our Republic becomes like Iran or Arab Saudi then they will give us no help to save Indonesia.
That word collaboration is very suitable for these cowards.
