Wants To Lock ‘Blasphemers’ Up – Yet He’s A ‘Moderate?’

I remember when I used to see Abdullah Gymnastiar on TV…

    00000000000

    • Gambar terkait
    • ———————-
    • ….a man who came across as an engaging sort, a Muslim cleric quite different, very different, from the unpleasant hate-preachers like Sobri Lubis of the FPI, the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front…’

    =

    Sobri Lubis

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7RLCXNdKF4  –

….infamous for his ( still on video) exhortation to a mob of rabid savages to ‘kill, kill, kill’ the peaceful Ahmadiyah minority.

A.A. Gym, as he was known, had what you might call home-spun charm, and had a huge following of adoring housewives. That rather collapsed about a dozen years ago when he went Arab, by which, I mean polygamous.

I say ‘went Arab’ because most Indonesians really do abhor the practice.

They think it’s backward and sexist – and who can disagree, since what could be more sexist than allowing men to have multiple spouses, while women are limited to one?.

So we didn’t get to see so much of Gym’s smiling face, until nearly two years ago, when who should pop up as ‘a proponent of the 212 rally.’

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2018/06/15/212-supporter-delivers-idul-fitri-sermon-in-istiqlal.html

    Ahok

    =

The Jakarta Post this week gives us a fairly neutral, arguably timid, description of ‘212’ –a religiously-driven mass protest staged in December 2016 demanding the prosecution of then-Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’

I would have defined it rather more harshly as a gang of Islamist fanatics.

The outlandish anti-Ahok campaign held numerous ‘marches’ – actually shuffles – which brought out all manner of backward bigots onto the streets of Jakarta

The protesters, most of whom were men dressed in white Muslim attire, were heard yelling, “We want a Muslim governor,” “Burn Ahok!” and “Kafir!”   http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/10/14/thousands-hard-liners-march-against-ahok.htm

    ————

Their goal, the jailing of Ahok for ‘blasphemy’ – and some wanted a lot worse for Ahok than mere jail-time..like Habib Rizieq, ‘grand imam’ of the FPI.

“We encourage the government to process the death penalty for Ahok as soon as possible,” said Rizieq.  http://www.suara.com/news/2016/10/14/134313/

…yes, their goal, when achieved, did horrific damage to Indonesia’s reputation as a pluralist democracy. Decent people of all creeds all over the world were shocked.

One can only view those who instigated ‘212’ as intolerant sectarian extremists who should be excluded from any role in respectable public life, held at arms-length by responsible public figures.

    But today?

Gymnastiar was preaching, not in any back-street zealot hang-out but in Jakarta’s grandest mosque, the Istiqlal, the splendid edifice to which visiting foreign leaders are taken by government high-ups..

    .

    .

…and where on this highest of Islamic holy days the congregants included both Jakarta’s Governor and Indonesia’s Vice-President Jusuf Kalla.

How do preachers at the Istiqlal get selected?

No idea. I imagine there’s a management committee, with some degree of autonomy, which is nevertheless sensitive to what and whom is acceptable in today’s Indonesia.

You’d think anyone associated with ‘212’ would be a definite ‘no-no.’ You’d hope that anyone advocating prison for the bizarre ‘offence’ of ‘blasphemy’ would be kept well away from the pulpit.

    But you’d be SO WRONG!

And here’s the sting in the tail!

    That same Gymnastiar’s name-

was included on the Religious Affairs Ministry’s list of 200 Islamic preachers that are deemed moderate, which was issued last month.”

And that, to those of us who love Indonesia and think religious liberty needs to be defended against Islamist intolerance, is a very depressing statement to ponder as the Idul Fitri festivities go on across the archipelago.

It sounds that Indonesia has changed greatly from the years when I lived in Jakarta and other cities.
It sounds also that the changes are not so great for people who like freedom of religion and of expression.
That is sad news. It was my experience that religion was not a cause of friction, in general.
I hope it will not get to be a more hostile environment for freedom. However all that I read, and not only written by you, makes me pessimistic.
Enjoy its sunshine while you still may.

Mike Pence’s (Somewhat Limited?) ‘Multi-Faith’ Experience!

Most of the media mentioned how America’s VP Mike Pence happily joined in a ‘multi-faith’ gathering in Jakarta, after visiting the huge Istiqlal mosque.

    =

The actual ‘faiths’ included in the ‘multi-faith’ meet-up don’t seem to be identified, at least in the media I’ve looked at.

But I am led to wonder if Mr. Pence had a chance to talk to representatives of one particular faith, the peaceful and inoffensive Ahmadiyah.

They have been subjected to systematic discrimination, not only by dastardly Islamist bigot brutes…

…but also by local governments around the country…

Many of us expected, hoped at least, that when President Jokowi took over, he would annul the intolerant edict.

    He hasn’t.

Did Mr. Pence’s Ambassador bring him up to speed with the persecution of these good citizens that began some years ago, reached a nadir at Cikeusik, when that mob of savages martyred three Ahmadis – nobody ever charged with murder – and continues today.

If Donald Trump’s V-P was properly informed on this shameful saga, one hopes he raised the issue at the ‘multi-faith’ meeting.

If Mike Pence was unaware, it’s time to fire a few embassy flunkeys.

I think deep down you know its too late but it still needs to be said.

Jakarta Mosque – Yellow-Bellies Bash, Spit On, Journos!

Well don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Wise Folks in Jakarta Staying Home Tomorrow? .

….the massive street protest on Saturday organized by Muslim groups demanding the imprisonment of incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama ended in violence directed against members of the media.

Actually, it was a lady reporter and her crew who were assaulted.

No fan of the media, nevertheless I draw the line at vicious physical assaults on journos.

    ESPECIALLY women journos.

But we know what Islamists think of girls – one of Jakarta’s foremost sexist sectarians infamously told us a year or two ago.

IslamoNazi Gauleiter – “Women Already Have Limitations, Let Alone Non-Muslims!”

…and while that FPI gauleiter restricted himself to demeaning words, there’s an inherent contempt for women among the vilest elements in Indonesia…

    ————-

Hasil gambar untuk women's rights sharia

    ———-

    …and elsewhere, of course.

    ========

Or was it just basic yellow-belly cowardice that boiled over at the weekend, when a ‘mob’ of dirty dastards set about a female reporter outside Jakarta’s huge Istiqlal Mosque.

Hasil gambar untuk ucha fernandez metro tv

Senior Metro TV journalist Desi Fitriani filed a police report on Saturday after she was hit in the head by unidentified protesters with a bamboo pole. She suffered an injury to the head.

Fellow Metro TV journalist Ucha Fernandes also filed a report after being struck in the abdomen, neck and legs.

    ——–

    Brave and devout congregants, eh?

    ———-

    • filthy-savages

    =

And we’re not talking about ne’er-do-wells who were just passing by. Nor hoodlums loitering in the vicinity.

The bigot brutes were IN the mosque.

Antara news agency reported that the alleged assault happened when Desi and Ucha were trying to get inside Istiqlal Mosque to get footage for their live broadcast. They were allegedly chased out by a mob…  http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/02/13/anti-ahok-crowd-directs-anger-toward-media-journalists.html

    NB   – Chased OUT.

    Ipso facto, by those within.

Nothing wrong with ‘men’ like that…nothing which a bullet in the back of the neck wouldn’t cure!

But curiously, the Jakarta Post report omits much that’s reported elsewhere, as in Suara.com, which adds a third victim to the list, Dino, a cameraman from Global TV. Maybe the JP produced a more accurate account in another edition – no time to check tonight.

In Suara.com, Ucha told his story.“My stomach and my shoulder were struck, I was kicked in the foot well. Besides that, I was also spat on.”

But now it gets REALLY interesting.

The Jakarta Post offers no explanation for the attack, but Suara.com quotes one of the victims.

I was surrounded by the mob who questioned why TV referred to the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front as Rizieq, without adding the title Habib.

You regular RRA readers know at once who we’re talking about. This geezer –

    ———–

Rizieq, left, with his rabid hero, Ba’asyir ( who’s currently doing time for terror-links)

    ——-

That’s Habib Rizieq, FPI ‘high imam’ who thinks our nice Jakarta Governor deserves to be KILLED for quoting a Koranic verse?

“We encourage the government to process the death penalty for Ahok as soon as possible,” said Rizieq.  http://www.suara.com/news/2016/10/14/134313/

We’ve used that extract more than once because it exemplifies blood-thirsty Islamist intolerance.

But the inclusion or omission of Habib is not an issue for us – sometimes we use it for him other times not.

There’s no indication Mr. H Rizieq ( ! ) was involved in Saturday’s incident. But he does indeed value that title/name, as, obviously, did the scum who attacked that lady last week. You’ll find out more of its significance on this previous post.

Habibs Galore – White-Shirt Gang Leaders Go On Trial!

Mr. Rizieq is a great buddy of Mr. Al Khaththath, of the FUI, which reminds me –  it’s hardly the first time a woman reporter has suffered at the hands of swinish louts in a fanatic rabble.

Here’s an extract from one of our posts, from two and a half years ago.

…a young lady identified as P, age 22, was sexually assaulted while covering the protests of the Islamic Defenders Front. The alleged perpetrator was a man about 40 years old, of short stature.

    =

    =

P told Kompas that while she was looking for a safe place on the sidewalk (away from the crowds of protesters )  suddenly, somebody grabbed her from behind with both hands.

She said she later saw the man alleged to have committed the sexual harassment, shaking hands with the Chairman of the Islamic People’s Forum (FUI) Muhammad al-Khaththath.

P bravely confronted her molestor, who of course denied all.

“He did not want to admit it. Instead he accused me of being a provocateur. I said to him, ‘Sir, I am a journalist.” Then he actually said:’ Yes, a journalist would deliberately try to heat up the atmosphere! ‘

“What made me even more sick at heart, the FUI chairman even said, ‘It’s the way it is…

This is much better, Ross, back to your old style and getting people to think about the big issue in the election today.
What happened to the reporters makes me sick but the thugs who attacked them are the reason its important the voters in Jakarta send a message to Jokowi.
Thanks and have a good holiday.

Please tell that Muslim police and other Muslim people took the reporters to cathedral across the street for safety. We mostly are friends with Christian and other religion

No Guarantee Jakarta March Peaceful, Yet Police Disarmed?

Since the self-styled ‘Islam Defenders Front’ keeps inexplicably referring to the anti-Ahok parade on Friday as a ‘Long March,’ I’m providing a map of central Jakarta so you can see for yourselves what a miniscule distance is involved.

    ———

Hasil gambar untuk istana negara istiqlal map

If you look to the immediate north-east of the large green area with the National Monument in the middle, you can see the big Istiqlal Mosque, whence the short ‘Long March’ will set out.

Then switch your gaze an inch or so to the left, that smaller, paler green area – there’s the Istana Negara, the National Palace, the destination of the rather short ‘Long March.’.

Of course the hateful horde ( and rest assured, they DO hate Ahok – Jakarta Jew-Haters Boo Chinese Christian Candidate ) won’t be moving in a straight line. They’ll want to have a howl-fest outside the Jakarta City Council HQ, also on the map, at the very bottom.

Nevertheless, even allowing for several twists and turns around the downtown area, I think the fanatics’ appropriation of the name given to Mao Tse Tung’s march (even though the rotten old Red China tyrant didn’t do much of the marching himself!)…

000000000    Hasil gambar untuk long march mao

    …is sheer cheek!

But that’s the least of law-abiding Jakarta citizens’ concerns, I’d have to say.

Yesterday we looked at the words of the loutish FPI spokesman Munarman, waxing loud about how this agglomeration of extremists would be a ‘peaceful action…’

    ————————–

    munarmandrench0946046000000000

Munarman, showing his commitment to peaceful protest

Half-Million Fanatics Descending On Jakarta? Peacefully!?!

    ….

    But we have an update!

Munarman estimated 4 November will be attended by 200 thousand people. With so many of them he could not guarantee the action will be peaceful.

    http://www.cnnindonesia.com/…/jubir-fpi-jokowi-kira-prabowo-bisa-redam-demo-

    I’LL BET!

And given that admission, surely the police on duty should be armed, and not just with the side-arms we can see them wearing every working day.

    NOT SO! They’ll be unarmed!

I was appalled when one of my regular commentators drew that bizarre state of affairs to our attention.

So I checked it out – it’s true, as made clear by Jakarta’s top cop…

    ——————————

Hasil gambar untuk Kapolda Metro Jaya Irjen Pol M Iriawan

…in this report, of which the headline suffices to show what’s been decreed in respect of keeping the city safe.

‘Police Escorting 4th November Demo Forbidden to Carry Fire-Arms’

Polisi Pengawal Demo 4 November Dilarang Bawa Senjata Api

I had missed the shocker, so my bad, for not being more thorough!

We all know that IslamoNazis are cowardly curs…

    ————

    fpi skulk in mosque

    —————-

    …UNLESS they‘re mob-handed, out-numbering their targets.

And we know too that jihadist street-thugs here in Jakarta won’t hesitate to attack and injure police officers if the opportunity presents itself.

So common-sense might seem to dictate that, with a six-figure swarm of sectarian fanatics on the streets of the capital, security forces should be equipped with high-powered weaponry, and be authorised to use it!

PS – according to the Jakarta Post, the number of police deployed to supervise the Short March has been increased to 20,000 – http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/11/01/police-to-deploy-20000-officers-to-anti-ahok-protest.html – last we heard it was 8000.
