Kompas TV Talk-Show Exalts PKI Collabo Pramoedya!

To please my guest yesterday, I tuned into Kompas TV for the news in Indonesian, catching up on local activities, and left that channel on, once my guest was gone.

About 3pm, there began a talk show about a film being made about one of the works of a villainous old leftist, infamous here among those acquainted with the PKI, the Communist Party of Indonesia, for his shameless collaboration with that evil movement.

    .

    .

Pramoedya was the king-pin of LEKRA, a typical red front gang, and we can only wonder at Kompas TV for its failure to include any critics of a man who can at best be described as a fellow-traveller.

    =

There were tons of photos of the old red brute smiling genially. There were also a variety of people taking part, none of them familiar to me, except One, who I believe to be a well-known film producer.

Nobody was there to denounce him as he was denounced 25 years ago.

Tempo, issue May 16-22, 2006 – an extract which explains why some 25 “prominent literary figures and cultural observers” put their distinguished names to a formal submission to the Magsaysay Award Committee in 1995, protesting at that body’s decision to give Pramoedya an award.

    .

    .

Their reasons were simply stated, viz his unethical role during one of the darkest periods for creativity during the Guided Democracy era, when he led the persecution of artists and literary figures who disagreed with him.

(this protest is air-brushed out of most Western references nowadays, though a brief mention is to be found in an otherwise slavishly pro-Pram article in the Economist  http://www.economist.com/node/168819 )

It’s always been bad, since we used to call the Jakarta Post the Havana Post.
There is a kind of clique that deep down is still a bit broken up about the PKI not taking power.

It’s not just an Indonesian thing. We have the same in our country, ‘intellectuals’ who think they are smarter than the rest of us.

I do not understand why any Indonesian would want to exalt a mean supporter of the communists like this Pramoedya.
We have many problems but we are not trampled under the boots of communist police like Hong Kong is.
Good point you make about the religious extremism. They use communism just as a stick to beat President Jokowi unfairly.
Even so, we better never to forget the crimes of the PKI and their friends like Pramoedya.
PS I also try once to read a Pramodeya book, but I was not able to finish reading, so boring and depressing.

Ill-Informed Jakarta Post Leftists Snarl At Trump

Skulking behind the ‘Editorial’ mask, the leftists who run the Jakarta Post have launched a vicious attack on President Trump.

    The JP’s record of double-standards…

Jakarta Post Against Book-Burning – If The Books Are Leftist?

….notably their resolute faulure to condemn their Gramedia overlords’ Nazi-style book-burning and their frequent simperings of sympathy with the poor persecuted communists here in Indonesia…

‘We Don’t Want Communism?’ But if You Did, It’s Time To Apologise!!

    .

…disqualifies anyone among its editorial cadre from criticising others for allegedly amoral conduct.

In fact it’s hard even to take these lily-livered Lugenpresse creeps as in any sense journalists, when they wrap their vituperation in dissimulation.

The clowns repeat the hoary old Big Lie – that Trump – “had made numerous statements (e.g. Mexicans are drug dealers and rapists)”

    Hasil gambar untuk goebbels lies

I suppose the JP is following the Dr. Goebbels strategy.

If they are not deliberately lying, they must be pig-ignorant, because even most non-journo-jerk citizens in the USA are aware of the truth.

    .

    .

We pointed out that truth a while ago, but the JP editors plainly only read stuff that reinforces their left prejudices.

Had they looked in here, they’d have been reminded that-

One of the most oft-repeated canards that the Media-Democrat Party likes to spew up  when they run out of fresh spittle-flaked spite is the bare-faced lie that President Trump called ‘Mexicans’ (or sometimes ‘Mexican migrants’ ) either ‘rapists’ and/or ‘criminals.’

    ..

Anyone with access to the internet can easily find the actual speech, which clearly shows the GOP candidate was talking about crimmigrants, illegals…

…saying that ‘some’ matched his description while ‘some were good people..’ The Good Mexicans Trump Talked About!

…but the JP penchant for distortion goes on…

They dredge up the Charlottesville story again, how Trump ‘failed to condemn what was a blatant case of racism and white nationalism.’

In fact Trump did condemn the violence, but was sensibly even-handed about it…

    .

…which was more than fair of him, since the violence was provoked by, hence entirely the fault of, the Red Nazi Antifa rabble who went to the scene with the declared intention of obstructing a legal march by those to whom they were determined to deny free expression,

The rancid bias of these JP hacks comes across ever so strongly when they whine that there’s been ‘no stopping his aversion to political correctness and bad behavior.’

Their clumsy English needs to be interpreted.

While his aversion to political correctness is one reason why Trump has huge support in the USA and throughout the wider world too, we are not sure why the JP comrades would dislike his aversion to ‘bad behaviour!’

    ..

    ..

I think they meant to insert ‘his’ before ‘bad,’ but obviously they never attended any of my lower-intermediate English lessons!

    Never mind!

The JP’s pinko scribblers list Trump’s shortcomings –

‘ He has regularly attacked women, people of color and even some of the most respected figures in American politics.’

    https://www.thejakartapost.com/academia/2019/12/20/checking-the-donald.html

So are the JP hit-squad telling us that NO ‘women’ are to be ‘attacked’ i.e. criticised…

Prabowo Faces Jakarta Post Quadrennial Gibbering!

And off we go again, an outstanding display of double-standards by the Jakarta Post, which re-hashed its long-winded explanation from four years ago on why it is anti-Prabowo and pro-Jokowi!

We are encouraged that one candidate [Jokowi] has displayed a factual record of rejecting faith-based politics. At the same time we are horrified that the other [Prabowo] affiliates himself with hard-line Islamic groups who would tear the secular nature of the country apart…    https://www.thejakartapost.com/academia/2019/04/09/we-may-ruin-our-incredible-democratic-achievements-since-1999.html

The Jakarta Post unequivocally deplores religious thugs who forward an intolerant agenda.

    Oh yeah?

How often does it get thus HORRIFIED at involvement with such unspeakable people?

    …..

    6e6cb-hypocrisyofoursociety

    ….

Has the JP a consistent record of being ‘HORRIFIED’ by people who collaborate with religious thugs who forward an intolerant agenda?

Regular readers here at RRA will remember the infamous Nazi-style book-burning in Jakarta, sponsored not only by the most backward Islamist fanatics…

    ===

…but by Indonesia’s largest publishing empire, Gramedia, of which, last I heard, the Jakarta Post is part.

That was a Hitlerite atrocity against free expression.

If the Jakarta Post, even so late as this election eve, now condemns its Gramedia overlords, then perhaps they may be forgiven the sin of selective indignation.

Typical? Jakarta Mob Orator Talks Embassy Arson!

“If they don’t get out of this place in three days, we’ll expel them ourselves. We’ll burn this embassy,” another protest leader told the crowd as he stood on top of a truck, vowing to stage further rallies.

    http://jakartaglobe.id/news/protesting-islamists-threaten-burn-myanmar-embassy-jakarta/

Playing with fire? There’s something of an obsession with burning among certain elements in Jakarta.

We all read about sectarian savages demanding that former Governor Ahok be burned.

The protesters, most of whom were men dressed in white Muslim attire, were heard yelling, “We want a Muslim governor,” “Burn Ahok!” and “Kafir!”   http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2016/10/14/thousands-hard-liners-march-against-ahok.htm

    =

    Hasil gambar untuk bakar ahok

    Ahok only burned in effigy!

    ========

Those blasted bigots didn’t get their way, but poor Ahok is now in jail thanks to  the country’s ‘blasphemy’ law.

And of course there’s the infamous Gramedia book-burning incident, when the Jakarta Post’s publishers emulated Adolf Hitler by building a bonfire of books that upset Islamist fanatics.

    =============

A pity the Jakarta Globe didn’t give us the name of the ranter who was heard shrilling about burning the embassy.

But at least they told us of the irresponsible threat to go lawless.

    ====

The Jakarta Post, in contrast – http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/09/06/-thousands-of-muslims-protest-outside-myanmar-embassy.html

    –  made no mention of it.

    =====

    ========

But given their Gramedia publisher’s enthusiasm for setting fire to harmless books, perhaps they prefer not to mention that sort of incendiary outburst.

Ma’af, Nia Danata! Jakarta Needs More Than New Censor Rules

Interesting to read in the ever-astonishing Jakarta Post, whose parent company Gramedia perpetrated the most glaring example of sectarian censorship not that long ago, a Nazi-style book-burning to placate Islamist bigots, that somebody’s claiming…

    =

Indonesian movie industry still not entirely free from censorship:

Since the Jakarta Post has never condemned Gramedia’s infamous grovel to jihadist fanatics, it’s not surprising that this complaint comes not from JP editors but from a lady named Nia Dinata.

    =

    Gambar terkait

    =

She’s a real wee cutie, as you can see, but she’s also a film director, who says, quite rightly, that the Indonesian movie industry is still in shackles as judgmental groups are reluctant to accept the freedom of expression by artists which are often out of the box.

But Nia is surely guilty of understatement!

It’s not only ‘out of the box‘ movies that get hammered, and the hammers are not only wielded by sectarian nutjobs (which I imagine is what she means by judgmental groups)

It wasn’t just silly little censor cuts imposed on the film ‘Noah!’

I usually enjoy Russel Crowe films but found ‘Noah’ stupid and boring to watch. Yet why on earth was the entire movie outlawed throughout Indonesia?

    ==

Russel Crowe dalam Noah (Foto: Ist)

Noah’ Banned – Who’s Next? State Censors or Sectarian Enforcers?

    Why?

Because it upset violent bigot gangs and the non-violent bigot cliques, much the same sorts as the book burned by Gramedia also did!

And we’ve had to report other examples of the most extreme elements in Indonesia doing their dirty worst to tell Indonesian people what they may or may not watch.

‘Cinta Tapi Beda!’ – First Blood to IslamoNazis!

    cinta-tapi-beda-film

    ———————————

Cinta Tapi Beda was about love between a guy and gal of different religions, and had the foul fanatics frothing, as they often do here.

    =

    =

Clearly a film for young people, teens especially, coming up to the age when they think of marriage!

So Nia’s suggestion this week, that  instead of censoring, “Age classification must be clear. Every line of industry, be it movie theaters or TV, must be required to include age classification,” does not make that much sense.

There are other films we’ve looked at, such as this –Soekarno’ Film – IslamoNazis Threaten Cinema Raids!  – and I’m too busy today to wax indignant about the clouded cleavage crisis on our tv screens, or the general tv censorship issue, covered in previous posts like this…

    =

    tight jeans 21

Dimana Bokong2nya? – Where Are Our Buttocks?

… but while vigilante hoodlums should be truncheoned by stern law enforcement officers out of their pretensions to any role in censorship…

    Gambar terkait

    =

…even official censorship here needs a lot more reforming than Nia suggests, to drag it into the 20th, never mind the 21st Century!

Never mind, her heart’s in the right place.

Jakarta’s Djarot Talks Sense – ‘Shape Up Or Ship Out!’

Ii’s a great shame that Ahok is no longer Jakarta’s Governor…

    =

…but since he’s been imprisoned under Indonesia’s mind-blowing ‘blasphemy law.’ he can’t be.

However his deputy, Djarot, is now in charge, if only till Anies Baswedan, elected with the enthusiastic support of the most fanatical Islamists in the land, becomes big boss of the capital in a month or two.

    0000

    Gambar terkait

    Djarot

Djarot is a much more low-profile politician than his predecessor, but this week he talked a lot of sense about the unwholesome elements, telling his employees to resign from office if they feel the state ideology Pancasila is irrelevant to the country.

    =

    =

New readers overseas should read up on Pancasila, but basically it’s the philosophical basis of how the founding fathers wanted Indonesia to develop, as a tolerant country – it needs to be, with its many ethnic groups and religious creeds!

    =

    ====

The rise of rabid jihadist gangs is a clear and present danger to that, so – somewhat belatedly – steps are being proposed, like the central government’s putative ban on the calipho-fascist movement Hizbut Tahrir, to curb the sectarian threat.

Thus Djarot reminded staff that all civil servants had sworn to protect and abide by the ideology.

“If any civil servant thinks Pancasila is not appropriate, just be nice and send a resignation letter!”

Better still, he suggested those opposed to Pancasila should even leave the country and find other nations that accommodated their ideology.  http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2017/07/24/djarot-tells-anti-pancasila-civil-servants-to-leave-office.html

All this, one must assume, is a mildly delphic reference to jihadists, whose allegiance is not to Indonesia but to Islamist supranationalism, the fundamentally treasonous belief that solidarity with co-religionists overseas should trump patriotic duty.

It is an offensive notion and not just to Indonesian nationalists.

Western countries too should echo Djarot.

    • Of course those addicted to unpleasant alien ideologies should be encouraged, if not obliged, to sod off to where their retard mind-sets will be more at home.

    Djarot can’t be faulted.

Mama Stasi Merkel, however, CAN be faulted!

ISIS Slags Were ‘Jealous’ Of Sex-Slaves?!? Hell Mend ‘Em!

… instead of letting her Iraqi captors finish her off as she deserves.

As for public servants here in Jakarta, or elsewhere in the archipelago, why should there not be a ban on Enemy Within jihad-addicts drawing teacher salaries from the Indonesian public purse?

In American schools, in healthier times, communities did all they could to exclude marxists from teaching posts, concerned that subversives bound by their own twisted codes would poison young minds with red toxins.

Jihadists too will stop at nothing to inject their vile dogmas into the class-room.

    SO…?

    Fire them!

I’m amazed, though, that the Jakarta Post editorial hacks have not begun whining at Djarot’s sensible views.

The JP is forever babbling about how unfair Indonesia is to the red vermin of the PKI…

‘We Don’t Want Communism?’ But if You Did, It’s Time To Apologise!!

…and the JP’s parent company has a shameful record of collaboration with Islamist intolerance.

Jakarta Post’s True Colours – ‘Hands off Islamists!’

Most of us understand the clear difference between Muslims and Islamists.

One of the former had a modest meal in my home last night. Another will likely drop by for a pleasant visit over the weekend. The folks I met up with in town yesterday were Muslims.

They are fasting, most of them, this Ramadhan. They don’t eat pork. Most of them don’t share my enthusiasm for beer.

    =

    =

They are normal people who follow their religious customs and respect the fact that a lot of people have either different religious practices or no religious affiliation at all.

    Islamists are something else entirely.

They are bigoted fanatics who are essentially intolerant and believe that their ways should dictate our ways. They hold power in Indonesia’s Aceh Province, where women of ANY creed are coerced into head-shrouding under the oppressive shariah code.

Islamist rule in Aceh is an endless nightmare…

That’s who Islamists are, and what they do.

BUT…says the anonymous editorial  in the Jakarta Post…

…celebrations beyond this “Pancasila Week” must avoid worsening the mistake of suppressing Islamists.

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/academia/2017/05/31/editorial-a-pancasila-holiday.html

Okay, we know that the Jakarta Post’s parent company, Gramedia, has a shameful record of collaboration with the Islamists, to the extent of overseeing a Hitlerian book-burning bonanza in support of the MUI’s vendetta against freedom of thought and expression.

Jakarta Post – A Nelson’s Eye View Of ‘Pluralism!’

But so far, while editorial cowardice has prevented any condemnation of that Nazi-style arson, they have never openly endorsed it either.

Does this latest outbreak of Islamist empathy now signal that the JP is going belatedly to its support for Gramedia’s grisly intolerance?

A question all the more important as we celebrate this, Pancasila Day!

Good one again Ross and I hope that newspaper will make it clear too.
Did you read that terrible woman Julia Suryathing writing in the Jakarta Post about she thinks it was real progress to allow men to have four wives but nothing at all about how women dont get to have four husbands or three or two, only allowed one and that is her idea of progressive..

She also totally dodged saying if child marriage is right or wrong, She just mentioned it the once and made no judgment.call. I think the old girl must be scared she will upset the fanatics.
What a coward but thats the Jakarta Post for you.

        Thanks for that, JazPen.
I did see her woefully inadequate ‘thoughts’ on child marriage and polygamy, but decided she wasn’t worth a comment.
However, you sum her up quite successfully.
        Thanks.

Jakarta Post – A Nelson’s Eye View Of ‘Pluralism!’

And off we go again, the Jakarta Post’s ever-anonymous editorial staff purporting to be concerned about pluralism.

    =

    =

Quite rightly, they recognise that, with three police officers having been murdered by Islamist swine at Kampung Melayu this week…

…all law enforcement efforts against jihadist evil deserve our whole-hearted support.

But what are we to make of this, that the sectarian terrorists have sent a stark warning not only to the security authorities, but also to religiously pluralistic Indonesia.

WHEN will the Jakarta Post editors come out and tell the truth about Gramedia, the company that owns the JP, and that itself declared war on religiously pluralistic Indonesia…

    http://www.thejakartapost.com/academia/2017/05/26/editorial-clear-and-present-danger.html

    ====

when it collaborated with the most bigoted sectarians in the archipelago in a Nazi-style book-burning, which has yet to merit a JP editorial condemnation.

If a business engaged in canning vegetables or the manufacture of make-up had committed this sin against freedom, bad enough!

    But a publisher?

    Shameful!

Until Gramedia offers a public apology and puts that book back on their shelves, for sale to all, we need constantly to remind the world of the evil that was done that day.

The Jakarta Post should be at the forefront of demands for this repentance.

We await, ever hopeful..well, not very, to be frank!

      Good on you, Ross.
One of these days maybe Gramedia will grow a conscience, and the Jakarta Post grow a set .big enough to criticise their bosses.

‘World Press Freedom Day’ In Jakarta – A Jolly Journo Junket?

“A free and democratic press should be accompanied by responsibility,” says Minister of Communications Rudiantara.

    Fair comment, Pak!

Meanwhile, we read the press release, which carries an explanatory note to let us know that WPFD is an annual event initiated by UNESCO.

    Not very reassuring, that.

We know that UNESCO is not a respectable organisation.

    But never mind.

    There’s more!

WPFD 2017 focuses on strengthening the freedom and quality of journalism, to make the media more effective in contributing positively to all areas. Especially on the relationship between freedom of expression, justice for all, peace, and inclusiveness.

    http://rilis.id/ratusan-jurnalis-dunia-rayakan-world-press-freedom-di-indonesia.html

Freedom , justice and peace, very nice too, but ‘inclusiveness?’

What the heck does that mean?

    —-

So at whom should we look this special day, when it seems some 500 foreign journos are in town, a jolly shindig till Thursday, most of them presumably booked into fancy hotels, which all have bars, ideal places for research and networking, of course.

    =

    =

It is tempting to have another go at the rancid bias of the Western media, CNN, BBC, France24, ABC, etc.

    =

    =

But we here in Jakarta don’t need to look that far to see how shackled some parts of the media can be.

We expect nothing more than what we get in terms of bias from media like TVOne, where the journalists purported to give objective news on the Middle East…

    ===

.Hamas Pigs Gloat Over Baby’s Death! Will TVOne in Jakarta Highlight Their Sin?

.. …while we were subjected to the miserable droning of that pro-Palestinian dirge and the ridiculous pictorial prejudice, that damned flag, with which they graced our screens.

But at least that wasn’t as bad as the Jakarta Post’s craven editorial silence on book-burning, simply because the JP is owned by Gramedia.

    • And speaking of repentance, who forces TV staff to feed sectarian hogwash into their news-scripts, using the word for ‘repentance’ instead of ‘conversion,’ when talking about dissenters bullied into accepting other people’s dogmas?

You cover a lot of ground in this Ross and I won’t even try to comment on all of it, but I just watched the news on Metro .
You maybe did too, all the ‘press freedom delegates at a fancy ‘gala dinner’ on one of our five-star Jakarta hotels.

Then they’ll head home tomorrow, hung over and a few kilos heavier, to write even more about the plight of the world’s underprivileged.
I know you dont like lawyers, but in my book, journalists are as bad as lawyers any day of the week.

Of our two enemies, I almost prefer the Islamists, because they (except for apostates in our countries) are not part of us and therefore not traitors.
The liberal media and politicians in our countries who work to undermine our defenses are the ones I would like to see pay for their treachery.

To tell readers that ‘conversion’ is ‘repentance’ is fake news. Very unpleasant faking too, to make innocents seem guilty, because repentance means giving up evil and they did no evil. It is no crime or sin not to be Muslim.
The Indonesian media you let us know about are purveyors of fake news and the journalists in Jakarta for this World Press Freedom ‘junket’ should be exposing them.
