Monarki Progresif – Java Heat Over Jogja’s Princess Royal!

Far be it from me to intrude on Jogjakarta’s dynastic rules, but it’s hard not to smile at the news of a possible Sultana in the DIY – that’s the ‘Special Jogjakarta Area.’

    • ————————–
    • After watching that great action movie, Java Heat, in which a beautiful princess becomes a Javanese Sultana, I thought to myself, what a fine idea!

It would get right up the nasty sticky-beak noses of the ignoramus Islamists who despise women in general and empowered women in particular.

And indeed, the Jogja Sultanate is noted for its adherence to tolerance, that Javanese tradition being eroded elsewhere by barbarous Arab notions that include not only foul sectarianism but also crude sexism.

Alas, even in the royal realm, savages are on the prowl!

Jogja’s Tradition of Tolerance Theatened by Jihadist Jerks?

In any event, the princess in the true, non-film, story, is rather a fine example of Javanese womanhood, and Javanese women are in general pretty fine.

    Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Pembayun

But Sultan Hamengkubuwono X may need to handle dissent, from some or all of his six half brothers, ill at ease with the news that His Majesty has named his first-born daughterGusti Kanjeng Ratu Pembayun, as Crown Princess – HRH even gets a new name to go with her new title, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Mangkubumi.

We have looked at the position of the monarchy in Jogjakarta before, when former President SBY showed signs of interference – he wisely backed off!

There had been talk of removing the Sultan’s hereditary right to serve his people as Governor as well as monarch, but it was pointed out that if they made the gubernatorial post an elected one, the Jogja populace would vote their Sultan in right away.

To help collect input from the public, the sultan’s brothers established a post at Ndalem Yudonegaran to give people the opportunity to convey their aspirations regarding the issue.

It has overtones of the manoeuvres around the elevation of the young Queen Victoria in the UK, with various uncles lurking in the wings.

And she went on to become a powerful and beloved ruler.

Florence Faces Fine or Jail-Time – Who Needs Holidays in Uptight Jogja!

Prosecutors on Monday requested the panel of judges at the Yogyakarta District Court to sentence Florence Saulina Sihombing, the defendant in an online defamation case, to a six-month suspended jail sentence, with a 12-month probationary period, and a Rp 10 million (US$756.15) fine or an additional three-month sentence.

    • I am appalled, as I often am in the mornings, and I’m disappointed, because Jogja has long been a favourite destination when i tear myself away from the joys of Jakarta. Its college atmosphere and its proximity to such wondrous monuments as Borobudur and Prambanan make it a fascinating place to visit.
    • And the people have generally been nice to me.

    prambanan Prambanan

But its public face as shown in this news is that of an uptight old bat, whom I have no inclination to spend time with.

“We asked the judges to declare the defendant, Florence Saulina Sihombing, proven guilty of committing criminal deeds by transmitting and making electronic information with a libelous content accessible to the public,” prosecutor Rahayu Nur Raharsi said during the trial at the court in Yogyakarta on Monday.

    As we have reported previously…

For Pity’s Sakes! Florence’s Ordeal Drags On! I’ll Skip Jogja This Xmas!

…Florence, a young student at the distinguished University of Gadjah Mada’s (UGM) made some very rude comments about the city last year. I quote from the latest news item.

“Jogja is poor, idiotic, uncivilized. Friends from Jakarta and Bandung, don’t stay in Jogja. Jogja residents are all bastards […].”

Not nice, nor fair, especially that ‘all’ – certainly the whining NGO that has orchestrated the ‘outrage’ makes me think some of its residents are not folk I’d choose to take afternoon tea with, but to extrapolate from their tantrum to claim everybody in Jogja is a B?

    No way!  But criminal?

C’mon! Sticks and stones, etc. But still we see that, despite the contrite Florence having met with the Sultan, apologised and received royal forgiveness, she’s been charged and brought to court. Defamation should surely be defined in terms of unjust PERSONAL abuse. To use email laws on behalf of a city just makes the people behind the prosecution seem like…

Well, I won’t use that word she used.

Use your imagination – as it is written, if the cap fits, wear it!

It is very mean for them to do this to Florence. Why can she not say if she does not like Jogja.

Beli Rumah Dapat Istri – ‘Buy House, Get Wife?’ C’mon, Lads!

Very late start today. Overslept after watching The Pyramid (good horror) last night, then rain kept me in – sunshine enough now to go forth.

But first, a fascinating local news item!

I’m forever emailing old school and uni friends in the Old Country to come to Indonesia when they retire.

It’s paradisical, not least in terms of weather – only a nut would grow old arthritically in the icy-wet West when you can come here and sun-bathe most days.

But the other great bonus of life in the archipelago is the beauty of the women. Every time you go walkabout, it’s like touring a Miss World training camp.

Even if you don’t go walkabout, instead staying indoors to play with your computer, you might still find something like this ad

    •  BELI RUMAH DAPAT ISTRI: Ini Isi Rumah Janda Cantik Wina Lia

The house is priced at Rp 999 million….located in an area 527 square meters, it looks beautiful. In front of the house there is a garden and a terrace with a teak wooden swing seat.

But the key part, the possibly unique part, of the ad is the…

    buy house, get wife’

A powerfully appealing package deal, yeah? Seems this janda cantik (lovely single –janda can mean widow or divorcee here) has been unlucky in love!

    beli rumah wina lia_19g1rbb2d1raisr1o53sq4n84a

So far, surprisingly, this cute mother-of-two doesn’t seem to have got many takers.

“…no one has come seriously asking…,” says Wina Lia, who’s just 40 years old and lives in Jogjakarta.

Okay, the house ain’t cheap. The exchange rate is about Rp.10,000 to the dollar. Do the sums yourselves.

But look at the gorgeous girl!

Her ad has made the tv news here.http://teknologi.metrotvnews.com/read/2015/03/10/368812/ini-penampakan-pemilik-rumah-di-yogyakarta-yang-siap-nikah

Yet while Wina has a lot going for her – besides her good looks, she’s fluent in the Javanese language and runs a business, a salon! – there are aspects to make you think twice!

…she just wants a future husband who can direct and guide her in religion.. “Either bachelor or widower, important that he’s Muslim and can guide my family, especially getting me to wear the hijab..”  . http://www.suara.com/tekno/2015/03/11/062300/5-hal-yang-belum-anda-tahu-soal-wina-si-penjual-rumah-siap-nikah

Well, no problem what religion she follows, so long as she ain’t fanatical. But most Muslim gals here DO NOT wear those scarves of subjugation.

    • jilbabless
    • Wina is a delight as she is – why start shrouding her beautiful hair?
    • ——–
    • So don’t all rush today, lads! There are plenty more fish in the sea.

I think this is not so good.
I read in the other newspaper that she is not happy with the attention. So did she not order her property agent to make the advert like this?
It will only be trouble for her. Easier to find husband in normal ways.

For Pity’s Sakes! Florence’s Ordeal Drags On! I’ll Skip Jogja This Xmas!

Well, here’s me just beginning to get my teeth into the idea of another Festive Season coming up – though some say every month for me is a season to be jolly – when I read that the remorseless persecution of that poor gal in Jogjakarta, the law student Florence Saulina Sihombing, who lost her temper after an irksome episode at a gas station queue…

“Yogya is poor, stupid and uncivilized. Jakarta and Bandung friends, don’t stay in Yogya. Yogyakartans are b*****ds.

I wanted to buy Pertamax 95 but was not served because I was on a motorbike. I queued in the car line and was not served. I was told to queue in the motorbike line, which was extremely long. It’s discrimination. Did they think I couldn’t pay for it? I’m so annoyed!”

A few oh-so-sensitive uptights – who clearly have little serious work to keep themselves busy – got on her case. Despite a personal meeting with the Sultan, who graciously accepted her apology for any slight on his realm’s character, the gal is now back in court, accused of spreading hatred!

    What utter nonsense!

All too often I read in the media here about some infantile little creep, usually religious fanatics but others as well, moaning about he’s had his ;feelings hurt.’

    • It’s simply pathetic. Adults don’t behave like spoilt brats. Well, they shouldn’t.

Frankly, as I have said before, here, on the blog and to many other people, I’ve always liked Jogjakarta. Actually, it was one of the places I was considering as where to spend my New Year time and money.

NOT ANY MORE! Until Jigjakarta shows enough maturity to stop harassing Florence, and the cry-babies who began the hue and cry against her kneel down before her and apologise…
